Elegant, comfortable apartments in a carefully restored 18th century palazzo by the sea in the heart of the historical district of Palermo, in the Kalsa quarter, once the Emirs's citadel. The palazzo has been the last home of Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of the world famous novel 'The Leopard'. It is within walking distance of the main artistic and touristy attractions, shops, restaurants, supermarkets. In each apartment you'll find suggestions about where to eat and shop, along with maps and guide books. The palazzo was built on the 16th century city ramparts and is facing the wonderful bay of Palermo. On the waterfront below it there is a beautiful park ideal for walking, running, jogging, playing football, flying kites or simply admiring the ships entering or leaving the port.
Each apartment has beautiful antique furniture, A/C, central heating, fully equipped kitchen, bed bath & kitchen linen, free wifi, TV, DVD player, weekly cleaning service.
The palazzo and its history: The palazzo in which the apartments are located was built in the 18th century on the 16th century Spanish city ramparts. In the mid-18th century it became a college for the education of young aristocrats. In 1849 the palace became the property of Giulio Fabrizio Tomasi di Lampedusa, the prince-astronomer who was the model for the main character in 'The Leopard', the world famous novel written by the prince's great-grandson Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. The palazzo was the last home of the author, until his death in 1957, and is now the home of his adoptive son, who has carefully restored it.
Enjoy Saint Rosalia's fireworks from your window!: The mid-12th century virgin hermit Rosalia was adopted as patron saint of Palermo in the 17th century after the discovery of her bones, on 14 July 1624, ended a dreadful plague which ravaged Palermo. In recognition and thanksgiving every year since 1624 a spectacular festival, the Festa di Santa Rosalia or Festino, takes place from 11 to 15 July. All kinds of festivities go on throughout the historic centre, including plays, music, and food. The Festino is the last of Europe's great baroque festivals. On July 14 the saint's statue is taken from the Cathedral and solemnly put on a gigantic triumphal chariot, wonderfully decorated, in the form of a ship. The procession crosses the city amid thick crowds of jubilant people. As soon as the sumptuous chariot reaches the sea at the Foro Italico, just below our property, an amazing firework display explodes in a breathtaking fantasy of light and sound that lasts one hour. A unique, unforgettable experience not to be missed!

Our experience in this apartment could not have been better. It is located in a palazzo close to the old center of Palermo. Our host was extremely gracious, and did many things to ensure that our stay was pleasant. For example, a very useful list of places to eat and shop was provided, which proved accurate. She was available to advise us on many questions, and even gave us her cell phone number while she was away on a short out of town trip. She was also gracious enough to take the time to show us around the rest of the palazzo, which was an especially interesting experience.
When we arrived, the apartment kitchen was provisioned with many useful essentials, including milk, mineral water, tea, coffee, jam, melba toast, and cookies. The apartment was clean and very quiet. Our stay was one week, and the host arranged for a cleaner, her personal housekeeper, to service the apartment once during our stay, and he did so very thoroughly. The kitchen was equipped with an automatic washing machine, laundry soap and conditioner, and there was an area to dry clothes outside the bathroom window.
In summary, we found this apartment to be an excellent place to stay, with a host who ensured that our stay in Palermo was enjoyable. We recommend it enthusiastically. If, as we hope, we return to Palermo again, we hope that we will be able to stay here again.
