Unique Hawaiian location, property.... and unique warm ocean to swim and snorkel in. Gated subdivision and quiet property.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful week at this rental. The pool was amazing! It is geothermally heated so it's temperature is at Pele's will, so to speak. I loved it, it was plenty warm enough for me. We were out and about for most of our trip, but I made a point of going for a swim every night before bed. I enjoyed floating around while admiring the stars and moon, and listening to the coqui frogs chirp.
The room itself was cute and had everything we needed. My only suggestion would be a curtain in the kitchen area window, just for a little extra privacy. The bed was comfortable, everything was clean, and it was quiet, except for those same coqui frogs, who's chirping was somewhat less charming when you're trying to go to sleep! But I had heard that, so I went prepared with earplugs!
There were lots of restaurants in nearby Pahoa, and of course in Hilo which is about a 1/2 hour away. We especially liked Sirius Coffee for our morning coffee. And if you happen to be there on a Wednesday there is an awesome market in Kalapana you have to go to! The food was awesome and there were tons of fun things to buy, drink and eat!
I highly recommend this rental, you will enjoy it!
My main reason for choosing this rental over many was the vernal pool and pictures of the pool, which was supposedly heated. It was cold, as ower explained, they pump up hot water and had not had sun for a few days(ad said vernal heated, not 'solar, and we'll pump up the hot for when WE want it'....Hmmmmm....I checked it and it was in fact
cool/cold. In addition, I had tried to get directions fron rental agent for a week and was told it was the website's problem. The owner did not want to dicuss the material breach in advertising the vernal pool as being warm and ran upstairs to her home instead of discussing a refund for the next two nights, as I did not want to stay after the directions debaucle and discover of the cold vernal pool.
We had a lovely time here and used the suite as a home base while travelling around. It was great to have some simple kitchen conveniences. The owners are very friendly, but not all up in your business, and the keep the suite nice and clean. Some of the furniture is a little worn (they're antiques, they're supposed to be!) so if you want glitz and glam stay at the Marriott or Sheraton.
If you want to be a few blocks to great snorkelling in volcanically heated pools, then stay here! You may even see Humpys or Dolphins from the shore!
A comfortable retreat, private, quiet, with well kept tropical garden surrounding the property. We will return.
Everything you need to be comfortable. We stayed for 4 days while we explored the amazing snorkeling nearby. The owners were very helpful, offering suggestions when we asked but also mindful of our privacy. It's a perfect place for 2 people. The fridge is a normal size with a small freezer on top. Spouse says bed is on the firm side-I thought it was fine. Would stay here again!!
My husband and I arrived on the big island, late, the day after Christmas. The owners were so kind to handle our late arrival. We spent the next two weeks enjoying day after day of 80 degree sunny weather. Post hurricane beaches were minus sand, but the snorkeling was superb, the local fruit farms in walking distance and the pool a luxury. The owners really ment it whent hey said, just ask for any help.
300 step to magical Champane Pond in the ocean. See video. Swimming and snorkeling with lots of fish, turtle and coral.
The Kapoho Ocean Hot pool - wow.
