Accommodating and Classy Affair

  • 5 of 5

Traveling to Palo Alto for a funeral in early January, our family had to find last minute accommodations. Wenda and James were not only helpful in expediting the paperwork, but also increasingly welcoming and sympathetic, as our stay turned out to be more complicated than expected. To begin with, our party mostly consisted of my toddler and disabled mother, as well as a couple of other family members who left after a few days. The house was very accommodating to my disabled mother, who was indeed comfortable on the first floor (there were three steps up to the front door, but along the driveway through the side door, there are no steps). The TV room, as well as upstairs bedrooms, were suitable and fun for my two year old.

Upon our arrival, Wenda and James welcomed us into their property, taking the time to share information on where everything was located, how things worked, and were sincerely invested in our comfort and experience during the stay. Considering our business in Palo Alto, our spirits were definitely lifted by the knowledge that we were staying with genuinely caring and gracious people.

The house itself is wonderfully designed, with beautiful craftsmanship and cutting edge amenities. I won't get started describing all of the top-notch features, but will say that all possible needs were met, which for us (one disabled person + toddler), was a tall order. And with all the bright skylights, walls and walls of wonderful books, a glorious piano as a centerpiece, several rooms with comfortable seating, a gourmet kitchen, and just a lively, sophisticated energy throughout, everybody agreed that this was the perfect setting for our particular visit.

Yet, as magnificent as the house was, it was the owners who were so classy, providing us the time, space and privacy needed to create a memorable experience. They were even happy to allow us to have other third party family members join us for meals and visits at their house, which turned out to be sizable gatherings at times. Thank you, Wenda and James! We couldn't have gotten through this very significant milestone so smoothly and pleasantly without you!

For anybody who is on the fence about this property, do not hesitate any longer! it's wonderfully eclectic and versatile for any affair, not just those with family business.

We stayed here with 8 researchers attending a conference at Stanford University. What an awesome place. Truly, a home away from home, with character. Lime trees in the garden, elegant architecture, lots of space. Such a great place!!

A true home from home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks while in Palo Alto for business. My wife was taking care of our two small kids so the garden was ideal for hanging out and dining out in the evenings. The house is pristine, the beds are really comfy and the house has everything you could want or need, including a baby grand piano! The hosts are lovely people, very accommodating and welcoming. The location is nice and quiet and a very walkable jaunt to the Caltrain if you need to get to SF and don't want to drive. Highly recommended!

Quiet, clean, roomy, lovely garden, exquisite setting, great location!

What an oasis in Palo Alto! You're so close to Stanford University and downtown, yet living in a relaxing, comfortable home-away-from-home with every amenity you could ask for on a friendly, safe, quiet residential street. Owners were very helpful but everything was easy to find and use, and the back yard/garden was perfect for unwinding, dining or meeting together. Lots of room for a family or traveling group. We couldn't believe our good luck finding this place! Highly recommended....

Beautiful Palo Alto home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in your home! It was really an oasis during our super busy week in Palo Alto. My daughter loved the daybed next to the fireplace—so cozy. We used it every day for tea, naps, reading, and hanging out at the end of the day. We loved the sunny garden and back patio. The house is really peaceful, the beds comfy, linens divine, birds singing in the morning.

The house has a real country atmosphere even though it's a short walk to campus and several restaurants and just a few minutes drive to downtown Palo Alto. Walking to the Stanford foothills and the Dish walk right from the house was a big plus.

We'll be back for another stay soon and will definitely recommend it to friends looking for a great place to stay during Stanford events.
