Sant Josep (San Jose) Vacation Rental villa: Cala Moli

This charming villa, overlooking the sea but nestled within a private enclave on the headland between cala vadella and cala moli, is the perfect Ibizan retreat for groups of friends or a family holiday. Inside the kitchen is new, the two big living spaces are comfortable and the bedrooms are basic but well laid out, each with access to a nearby shower or bathroom. There are four bedrooms on the ground floor of the villa and two on the lower ground, which was a perfect arrangement to accomodate those with children and those without, in our case. Most compelling of all is the fabulous outside space. There is a big wooden table on the terrace where we had breakfast and lunch, and a gazebo at the far end of the patio by the pool where we had evening drinks under the stars. The swimming pool is a good size for lots of children to have fun at once, or for lengths for the exercise conscious. Cala Vadella was our favourite beach, and I recommend Bon Sol for excellent good value Italian food, with magnificent views of the setting sun. San Jose is the nearest town and we occasionally had breakfast in the main square - the fresh orange juice and 'tostada' are a must. Cala Moli is almost equidistant between San Antonio for those wanting a warehouse club experience - or indeed an exorbitant cocktail at the famous Cafe del Mar - and Ibiza town which is stylish, vibrant and fun. If expense is no object book a table at La Brasa - an exquisite restaurant serving food cooked over a hot grill, situated in a patio garden with exotic trees and plants by way of decor. We loved Ibiza. We can't wait to go back!

When we arrived at the villa for the price I was expecting something really amazing however the property was in need of repair in places, had damp smells especially in the downstairs annexe and had tins of paint / plaster in the larder left there from the last time they had tried to fix the place up.
We were warned by the cleaners on the day we checked in that there had been some burglaries in the area and not to leave the front doors open if we were in the pool and couldn't see them. However on day 4 of our holiday we were eating dinner and at 10 oclock at night we found some burglars in the house and they managed to get away with a great deal of our property. Although we had shut the doors and pulled the latches down the keys didn't lock the doors properly - the burglars who we have reason to believe knew the property well knew how to get these latches open from the outside and got in. There were several sets of keys all over the house suggesting the locks had been changed a lot (perhaps because this had happened before).
The villa is set in large grounds and at night it is very easy for someone to scale the wall and hide in the grounds waiting until the unsuspecting family's guard is down to enter the property and rob them.
It was a horrendous experience and I don't want anyone to have to go through what we went through - not least because the next 10 days of our holiday were ruined, thinking every little noise was a stranger inside or outside the villa. It still makes me sick now to think of it. If you do rent this villa the views are amazing and the villa is ok if you don't mind a few crumbly walls and a bit of chintz decor. I wouldn't call it luxurious or safe though. Lock all your doors, don't take any valuables and use their safe at all times - even when are in the villa. We are just so glad that our children had been allowed to stay up with us that night and didn't wake to find the burglars snooping around what we thought was a safe holiday home.
Be warned - we strongly believe these burglars knew the villa and the layout inside and grounds very very well.
