“Casa Tranquillo” is a 3-bedroom, 5-bath luxury home on the cusp of central (“el centro”) San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, MX.

This bright and airy architectural oasis is newly available for weekly or monthly vacation rental. A mere eight-minute flat walk into the heart of town, it is snuggled among other luxury homes in a quiet, private, gated - and truly international - neighbourhood (a 'Privada'), which offers a unique blend of country-like living and sophisticated “joie de vivre”. From the expansive roof deck you'll see empty fields, homes dotting the hillsides, and the top of La Parroquia (the largest cathedral) in the center of town.

Walk outside the gates of our Privada to the popular Mercado just three blocks away. Here you can mingle with the locals and buy the freshest fruits and vegetables, clothing, shoes, and a wide array of hand-crafted artisan keepsakes. Walk another few minutes to the Jardin - the focal point of village life from which numerous festivals and parades are launched!

This spacious +/- 3500 square foot home was originally designed with three extra large bedroom suites, each with its own full bathroom with a shower and/or a copper or whirlpool tub. We currently use the downstairs bedroom as a den/TV/family room, yet there's a comfortable sofa bed to accommodate two additional overnight guests.

Casa Tranquillo offers a total of three full bathrooms and two half baths, including a guest bath on the roof deck, perfect for enjoying that delightful space.

The master bedroom has a king-sized bed with soaring iron frame, a traditional brick Boveda ceiling, plus a gas fireplace to take the chill off a cool winder night. There's also a generous walk-in closet/dressing room with a wall of custom built-in cherry drawers. There's even a cozy outdoor nook for quiet reading time. The bathroom features double sinks, a quaint bronze pedestal bathtub and a shower.

The second bedroom offers a classic queen-sized, four poster cherry bed, and a bathroom with a shower custom cherry built-in closets and drawers.

With San Miguel’s marvelous weather, you will want to enjoy the three major private outdoor areas, which are adorned with a variety of flowering bushes, plants, herbs and fruit trees.

A wall of floor-to-ceiling glass adjacent to the living and dining areas open out to a splendid back yard with a covered entertainment area that seats ten in front of a wood-burning fireplace. Bamboo trees and other shrubs adorn the periphery. ''S'mores', anyone?' A gas grill is also provided for outdoor cooking pleasure.

The front terrace on the second floor is a great spot to lounge in the wrought iron recliners. Lemon, orange and lime trees, in addition to bougainvillea and other flowering plants, soothe your senses.

Enjoy alfresco dining on the roof deck at the lovely tiled table. You can spend the afternoon relaxing here since there is a stainless refrigerator you can stock with your favorite cold beverages to quench your thirst. Two unique features of this roof deck are the hand painted tiled mural, and a very convenient 1/2 bath.

The chef's kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need at the ready, including 'All-Clad' cookware, a gas stove/oven, microwave/convection oven, electric juicer, blender, toaster, Krups coffee-maker, garbage disposal and dishwasher. Most of the appliances were purchased within the past year. You will find a large pantry immediately off the kitchen - equipped with dishes, margarita glasses and other essential items, with enough room to store your own food.

Our housekeeper, Anna, takes wonderful care of the house. She will keep the house clean and lovely throughout your stay. Our handyman, Omar, comes by to water the gardens and check on the house two days a week. He is always on call if any help is needed with house maintenance. He will instruct you on the proper use of the fireplaces and gas heaters.

This home is loaded with additional amenities including a security system, hotel quality water purification system, Wi-Fi throughout the house and satellite television.

About Tread Strickland

Tread grew up in Mississippi while Mark was raised in Connecticut. We both spent the past 20 years in Boston. We have so many wonderful memories of that time, other than the snow and ice. (No worries about snow and ice in San Miguel!) The weather is wonderful year-round and inspires you to venture out and about. But our favorite part of San Miguel is the people. Kind, friendly and filled with a joy for life, their hospitality is a treat each and every day.

Why Tread Strickland chose San Miguel de Allende

We bought this unique home in 2012 and have renovated and decorated it to make it even more comfortable and enticing. Little things matter: new Toto 'comfort height' toilets, majestic mahogany front doors between the newly landscaped front courtyard with decorative waterfall and the entrance into the home. There are new kitchen and laundry appliances, granite countertops, and a hotel-quality water purification system (we drink from every faucet in the house without repercussions!). Since we moved here from a traditional, historic brick town home in Boston, we appreciate historic design of our Mexican home, which is infused with with modern conveniences. Both cities are extremely walkable. San Miguel offers unique historic architecture and wonderful, friendly people.

What makes this house unique

Bring the outdoors inside by opening the retractable roof in the center of the first floor! This home is blessed with bountiful outdoor space. Light a roaring fire in the wood-burning fireplace in the entertainment area in the back. Relax on your deck chairs on the front terrace surrounded by lemon, orange and lime trees. Entertain on the spacious roof deck with the beautiful tiled mural. With a refrigerator and a guest bath, it's the perfect spot to spend a lazy afternoon sipping iced tea or margaritas.

The house has a hotel-quality water purification system, so we are able to drink from the tap without any repercussions.
