Running and Walking :
There are many marked walking routes throughout the area of various lengths which can also be used for running. The GR48, one of France's long distance footpaths also passes within 0.5k.
Watersports :
There is canoeing and rafting on the River Vienne at Exideuil and also canoeing, sailing and wind surfing on the Lacs de Haute Charente. There are also beaches, safe swimming with lifeguards in season and restaurants at these two lakes which are a short drive away.
History and Spectacle :
Follow the Richard Cour de Lion route and visit Chalus where he received his fatal wound. At the Chateau de Peyras in late July there is a two week medieval Spectacle and feast. Henry Plantagent and Eleanor d'Aquitane once ruled this area and from the Pyrenees to the Scottish borders and as the 100 years war is part of the fabric of this area there are many medieval chateaux to explore.
The Martyred Village and the Centre de la Memoire at Oradour sur Glane is a moving memorial of the Second World War as is the National Necropolis at Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure where more that 2,000 members of the French resistance movement are buried.
Confolens hosts a two week Folk Festival in early August with dances and performers from all over the world, there is a colourful procession which should not be missed. On the third weekend in September in Angouleme is the Circuit des Ramparts, the only vintage car rally held inside a French city.
