My husband and myself live in Sidney and have for most of our lives. My husband is a builder of 47 years, well known and respected in the community. We have another rental property that we do vacation rentals with as well.
Deborah Garside purchased this house in 2014
We purchased this property in January of 2014 and completely re-built the interior and the exterior. We currently rent the basement suite full time but we felt that the it would be a great spot to offer to travellers considering how close it is to all the ferries, airport and the town. Sidney and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer to travellers and we enjoy being able to help with this.
The property is quite nice in the early evenings. You can sit out on the large deck and you will hear the local doves cooing near the trees in the back yard. There are many birds around the area and we have a resident brown rabbit that will come and sit in the yard. It is a nice street with clean and tidy yards and we liked the overall look of it.
The rental property is located on the West side of Sidney, close to the airport and the Town of Sidney. It is a short walk to the town, five minutes. Across the road from the property is a newly constructed bicycle/walking path that runs around the perimeter of the airport, going by the ocean on the West end. A lovely walk/run or bicycle trip. It is approximately 12 kms. Walk into Sidney and you will find a variety of quaint little shops, great bookstores and all the amenities you will need. Thursday nights in the summer are the Sidney Street Market and everything is sold at this from local arts and crafts, vegetables, flowers and a variety of other goods. Well worth the time spent. There are many good restaurants in Sidney and the surrounding area. If you have children, there is a new water park on the East side of Sidney near Tulista Park. Butchart Gardens is about a 15-20 minute drive from the property and is a 'must see' when you come to the Island.
There are a couple local companies in Sidney that offer whale watching tours and at the bottom of Beacon Avenue, there is the Shaw Ocean Discovery Center that is very interesting for everyone to see.
During the year, there are different events offered at the Mary Winspear Centre, found just as you turn onto Beacon Avenue. Events such as antique shows, concerts, live performances as showcased year round. Sidney has their annual Sidney Days for the July 1st long weekend, always a fun time. In December, there is the annual 'Light Up' where you will find a decorated boat parade and the Santa Claus parade.
Drive into Victoria, about 18 kms, and you will find many things to see and do. There is good shopping,, the Royal BC Museum, lots of different restaurants and different tourist sites to take in.
From the property you have access to many different things all within minutes, the airport, BC Ferries, the Anacortes Ferry. Take a drive up the scenic Island Highway, past the Goldstream Park where there are excellent hiking trails. Catch the salmon run that goes through every November.
If you like to fish, there are fishing charters available for hire at the Sidney Marina located at the base of Beacon Avenue as well as whale watching tours.
Take the 'Little Ferry' and spend the day on Sidney Island, about a 20 minute boat trip. You will find beautiful sandy beaches to spend your day on. The boat will drop you off and pick you up at a later time.
There is the Panorama Recreational Centre located about a 10 minute drive from the property. You will find a pool, ice skating rinks, tennis courts and raquet ball courts.
In the Town of Sidney, there is a wonderful spa at the Pier Hotel if you want to spend some time relaxing.
