Casa Yolanda is located on the eastern edge of the Historical Centre of Merida in a lovely authentically Mexican neighbourhood know as Chem Bech (also spelled Chen Bech). Here you get the best of both worlds. It is only a 10 block 20 minute walk to all the main tourist areas (Paseo Montejo and the Main Square as well as Santa Ana and Santa Lucia Squares) but you also get to enjoy the absolute charm of this quiet and safe neighbourhood. Mejorada, another increasingly popular neighbourhood is a few minutes walk southeast of Chem Bech.
There is an open air fruit and vegetable market, a supermarket, local taverns and restaurants, takeout pizza and chicken plus liquor and beer stores all within a few blocks of Casa Yolanda (when you book, we'll send you a map of the neighbourhood indicating the local amenitiies). You can also visit the Contact Us page for a list of restaurants and local sites.
Casa Yolanda itself has its own gated parking space off the street large enough to fit a small car. There is also plenty of street parking available. The home features a screened in porch, an outdoor patio and garden plus a dipping pool to cool off in after a long day exploring the city.
The home has one king bed in the master bedroom, 2 single beds in second bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room plus two hammocks for guests who want to sleep Mexican style or to simply enjoy a siesta in the screened in porch. There is air conditioning in the master bedroom and ceiling fans in every room, plus dishes, a hot plate, microwave, coffee maker, blender, a new fridge and a washing machine. We also provide clean towels and linens.
Included in your rental is free wifi, cable TV, Apple TV Netflix etc.. an airplay speaker and the use of two bicycles. Drinking water and a couple of cold cervezas will be wating for you upon arrival. We do request that you not smoke in the house.
We've left a few guide books to help you navigate your way around town or help you plan day trips to some of the awesome destinations just outside of Merida. Catch a bus near the Main Square to Progresso, a beach town on the gulf coast just 30 km from Merida (buses run every 10 minutes from 6am-10pm). Or visit one of the small, sleepy fishing villages further along the coast including Celestun where you can take a boat ride to see a wetland reserve that is home to vast flocks of flamingos. The world-famous Mayan ruins Uxmal and Chichen Itza, nearby Mayan villages and Cenotes (underground fresh water caves) are a few more of the many Yucatan destinations you'll want to explore beyond the city limits.
