Small rowboat, canoe, & 4 tractor tubes available for use.
We stayed for a winter weekend birthday celebration and could not have chosen a more perfect spot! Tucked away into the woods, on a beautiful bend of the Little Manistee River, it was a winter paradise! We watched bald eagles and heron regularly patrolling the river, also turkeys and ducks in the vicinity - all from the comfort of the great room. We had a great time just walking the little roads and seeing the tracks and signs of other wildlife in the area.
The house itself is perfect for a getaway - a large, comfortably furnished living room area with lots of comfy seating and a beautiful cut stone fireplace with woodstove insert. The walls are almost 100% sliders so the views are fantastic no matter where you sit. The vaulted ceiling made the room open and airy. The kitchen is very well-equipped, everything we could possibly need and all in good condition. And a dishwasher - not always available in cabins in the woods!
The bedrooms are small but comfortable and the beds were made up with fleece sheets - SO cozy! Plenty of pillows, towels, washcloths, etc. Individually controlled base-board heaters assure the perfect temperature in every room. Everything was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained.
Vicki, the owner, was a pleasure to work with and very responsive - it's obvious she loves this house and we were so happy to have the chance to stay there. We are anxious to return in warmer weather so we can get on the river and see the area in full greenery and/or fall foliage!
We had a great time during our stay. Place was big enough to accomodate all of us and quite private, since all the rooms are on one side and are separated by hallway from the main living part of the house. Door to the kitchen can be closed and people sleeping in the rooms will not hear any noise which was kind of nice. View of the stream is beautifull and there are tons of little trails where we could walk and enjoy the scenery. Overall i was very happy with this house. Owner is also great, she responded to all of my inquiries right away. Thanks, hopefully we can come back.
I used this cabin for a weekend fishing trip. The cabin has amazing views of the little manistee river and was very clean inside. The chairs in the cabin are beyond comfortable and a great place to relax. The owner is friendly and answered any questions I had prior to my trip. My friends and I will be back again.
We rented the cabin over a weekend late in August. The cabin is secluded and right alongside the little manistee. The owners are extremely accommodating and friendly. Vicki was very timely in her communications and thorough in explaining accommodations. They even drove us to a drop spot for canoeing!
DeWitt bridge is 3.5 hour tube ride. There were 4 tubes a canoe and boat (only 2 paddles available at time). Plenty of firewood and a large fire pit. Large walkaround porch with room for seating to enjoy the river. Very large living room. Can easily sleep 7 w beds for all. Verizon service is non existent but AT&T worked great. TV is limited in channels it picks up (nothing worth watching, bring movies for rainy nights).
Overall we had a great time and would absolutely rent the cabin again.
We had a few guys get together for fishing weekend an this was a perfect place for it. The pictures do not do it justice in my opinion! Morning coffee over looking the deck was one of my favorite parts, and we can't wait to come back!
I stumbled upon this property after weeks of searching unsuccessfully for a cabin in western Michigan. I booked this one a week before I left, thinking that I was settling. I am delighted to say that I was very wrong. I could not have asked for a better location for my friends and I to take a guy's weekend.
This property is secluded while being within a reasonable drive from Lake Michigan, Traverse City, and a dozen great spots to hike and canoe (that is, if you do not want to explore the Little Manistee directly behind the cabin). Irons offers some great local color with a couple of good bars and restaurants.
As for the place itself, nothing beats sitting around the fire at night while listening to the river flow by 20 feet away (while not listed, this property includes a fire pit and piles of firewood). The cabin was clean and well-furnished. The cabin is by no means rustic, but excludes technologies which might distract you from your surroundings. You could easily spend the weekend sitting in the living room with the door walls open or on the wrap-around deck, taking in 180 degrees of undisturbed wilderness. There are no neighbors in sight. We had six people there--each with his own bed--and we still had plenty of room for inside activities (not that we had much interest in remaining inside).
I spoke with the owner several times (including bothering her at 11:30pm for directions) and found her incredibly friendly, relaxed, and genuinely interested in ensuring that we had a great time.
If you are interested in never being without a single modern comfort or spending your time at a shopping mall, go find the Marriott in Traverse City or the like. You'll be happier and won't commit the crime of depriving someone else of this opportunity. If, however, you are interested in leaving it all behind and exploring the meaning of Pure Michigan, you have found your destination. Book it before someone else does.
