I read other reviews about Cherry Ridge Retreat and felt compelled to write one about my experience, since it was dramatically different than what other people written.
My parents are from Ohio, but I’m from out of state. I planned a trip back to OH and wanted to spend a weekend with just my Mom and Dad to get the most out of my visit. I was in search of accommodations that would please my Mom as well as my Dad (and of course myself). I chose the Lakehouse at Cherry Ridge Retreat. Upon arrival we checked in at the main office and were kindly greeted by a person in the office, which was nice because typically all you get are keys left in an envelope (i.e. VRBO rentals). Prior to arrival I spoke with the owner/management about my expectations and they were very accommodating and descriptive on what the property had to offer.
My Mother was extremely pleased with the cleanliness of the overall house – especially the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and hot tub. The Lakehouse was fully stocked with everything needed in basic meal preparations and well thought out to anticipate what guests might need. My Father and I enjoyed how secluded we felt in the woods with a view of a beautiful lake. I was able to catch up with him on the deck and take in some of the wildlife that surrounds every part of the house.
The house was designed for larger groups, but also was also accommodating for our needs without feeling too big, plus without the need to pay extra for unused space. I found the laminated information cards to be helpful and probably the reason why the house was in such good condition. I did not see any deferred maintenance as another reviewer indicated and the décor was fitting to achieve the cottage or cabin feel. In fact, I found the house to be better decorated and in better condition than most primary residences. I rent quite a few places in Colorado for skiing and this far surpassed the typical rental.
I will certainly be a repeat customer and look forward to check out some of the other rentals offered by Cherry Ridge Retreat.
Let me start out by saying that had the management not been unavailable and downright rude, I would have probably given the place 3 stars. It really is how a person/company/organization handles a problem that determines my final judgement, because I completely understand that sometimes things just go wrong. However, from the moment things got started it was less than enjoyable. A group of us had rented out the Lake House cabin for the weekend- absolutely gorgeous in pictures and by description. It didn't disappoint upon first look, but there was a number of things wrong. After being told that the cabin was in a secluded location and offered privacy, and was well maintained as a personal residence, I can say that it is the farthest thing from the truth. UPON ARRIVAL: 1. Large pieces of broken glass were found on the floor 2. The ice machine was broken, and our group had to fix it on our own. 3. Multiple dead flies were found in cabinets, along with dirty dishes. 4. Chairs were broken (that we were later told to be thankful that the fees weren't taken out of our deposit) 5. Oven not working The plan was to have a "Friendsgiving" so the oven not working proved to be a serious issue- and we couldn't get a hold of anyone. We had a phone that would ring, but when you answered it was nothing but static. Not ideal for an area where you get absolutely no phone reception. Multiple people also tripped over a nail sticking out of the floor, and we couldn't find any tools in the house (because all of the closets and half of the cabinets were locked). So we had to mark it with an empty bottle can, in our best attempt to not wipe out/slice our feet open. The management also failed to mention the limited access and insane number of rules the place included. We could not use the flood lights at night because they shone right into the other cabin (no seclusion)--- how are you supposed to see? The upstairs balcony area and sun room were locked/closed. A list of exactly where dishes were to go was supplied, which was overkill. All in all, the experience wouldn't have been so awful if the management hadn't been completely unresponsive. We paid a lot of money as a group to get away for the weekend, and we spent most of our time trying to reach someone to help us get things fixed to no avail. Even after we managed to get a hold of someone (after we left) we were offered $100 off of our next stay (YEAH, RIGHT).
