Thank you to all of our regular, and new guests for a great season last Summer and an early fill this year.
We may...have some shorter stays reservable in advance leading up to Memorial Day and again beginning in October. In these off seasons we require ample time to have the cottage freshly prepped and for funds to clear.
Fall and winter are lovely times to visit. Relax in a cozy country location with long beach walks and swimming into October. Color is beautiful and a dusting of snow brings all the second home weekenders up for a brisk, refreshing getaway; only an hour from Chicago. Spring, Fall, and mild winter days are best time to hike Indiana Dunes National Park and State Park.
Charming two bedroom cottage in Michiana Shores. Short stroll (2.5 blocks) to beautiful beach at stop 36 or 37.
One king and one queen bedroom with full bath upstairs with additional beds and 3/4bath in basement.
Bring a bottle of wine or ice cream cones...to enjoy spectacular sunsets from the covered gazebo at stop 37, with ez access, short term parking, bike rack, trash service, rinsing and drinking water and plenty of seating. Probably the nicest beach and stop for several miles; very lightly used compared to some southern beaches toward Long Beach. Walk miles of gorgeous shoreline in either direction...south to Long beach or up to Grand Beach and New Buffalo.
Perfect for relaxing getaways for a couple, couples; but can accomodate small families and small groups. Quaint knotty pine throughout the home. Super comfortable king and queen bedrooms with seasonal linens, new kitchen, remodeled full bath, big living room with sofa bed and big screen TV. Ceiling fans in each room, including screen porch.
Lovely screened in porch, great in three seasons. Full basement with extra beds, sofa sleeper and a 3/4 bath. Big backyard with wooded perimeter. Wrought iron table and 6 comfortable padded chairs for outdoor dining.
The cottage is off the beaten path on a quiet, non through street, but located in a great area close to plenty of restaurants and activities... the Blue Chip or Four Winds Casinos , Duneland summer theater, Light House Place Outlet Mall. Spectacular hiking at nearby Dunes National Park or State Park is best in Spring or Fall.
Nice walk to Dining room at Duneland Beach Inn or Stop 50 wood fired pizza, Beach is a 5 minute walk to either stop 36 or 37. A short walk in the other direction to a creekside nature trail and a fun vintage playground with a tennis court. Plenty of golfing nearby too, in Long Beach and elsewhere.
Fitness centers in nearby Long Beach and Michigan City offer basic or full amenity facilities; respectively, for daily, weekly, bi weekly or monthly rates.
Pets allowed with extra cleaning fee and at semi private stop 37 they are legally allowed on beach during off peak hours...before noon and after 6pm; though it's never been an issue at other times except holiday weekends. It's not an issue at all off season. It's really a super laid back, friendly community and beach scene...mostly second home weekenders.
Most of our guests are repeats each year. After Labor Day we accept advance reservations for shorter stays, but prime summer time we only advance reserve for 7 nights or more unless there is a last minute vacancy or few odd days between week long guests. This occurs mid week or even weekends when guests stay a few days longer than a week.
Beautiful Summer weather continues through September and often even into November some weeks.. Winter weekends can be a beautiful getaway too....very quiet and pretty.
- pets considered
- non smoking only
- children welcome
We grew up spending summers on this beach. My family has been coming here for 5 generations. My great grandmother's home is still as I remember it one stop south in Duneland Beach. The beach proximity and relative privacy were the biggest considerations, though it is a very attractive vintage property.
The open back yard is great for kids to play or for sunning. Backing up to 3 wooded lots offers more privacy. The neighborhood is mostly second home weekenders, so it's usually quiet and peaceful. I often say 'it's only an hour drive but feels like a million miles away once you are here'.
