Photos and Description of the Braux vacation house rental
3 comfortable Gites, sleeping 2/ 4, 6, 8 or a total of 18

Situated in the small village of Braux these recently renovated Burgundian houses lends their names to all the stone work in and around the property. Flagstone floors, vaulted arches, stone fireplaces, kitchen sinks and work surfaces and stone shower trays add to the charm of these 19th century houses. There is a newly installed swimming pool with a good range of inflatable toys, 8m x 4m, with walk-in steps at the shallow end, ideal for young children and learners. The pool, barbeque and eating areas can be flood lit in the evenings. These well equipped houses can be rented as a whole or as separate units so if you would like to make up a large group and rent all 3 this is possible.

During our off peak season we are also organising themed weekend breaks.

We have decided to make use of the old traditional bread oven, that was built in 1850 approx., to make an unforgettable weekend experience, read on for more information.....

There is a bread van that passes 3 mornings a week through the village selling fresh baguettes and croissants, a cheese van that passes on a Wednesday evening and an 'epicerie' van once a week.

The house is stocked with information leaflets for all the local sites and activities and we have also included our recommendations for places to eat. There are fabulous walks around the numerous lakes and in the Morvan forest, cycling along the towpath of the Burgundy canal, which meanders through the village, golf courses at the Chateau de Chailly, horse riding near Semur en Auxois and wind surfing and peddeloes at Lac du Pont, 5 minutes away.

New this year, massage, manicure and facials using organic products. This is a lovely way to start or finish your holiday, why not treat yourself to a relaxing massage? If this interests you let me know at the time of booking and I will reserve a time for you to enjoy this wonderful experience.

.

During our off peak season we are also organising themed weekend breaks.

We have decided to make use of the old traditional bread oven.

We will be making and cooking pizzas, different breads and brioches, tasting local wines and cheeses and even cooking a suckling pig in the oven. You will also have the time to visit our local market in the medieval town of Semur en Auxois, Dijon or Beaune.

If you would like to prolong your break why not stay a couple of extra nights and really visit this lovely area.

You can come along and join a group or make up your own group. It's a great opportunity to celebrate a birthday or wedding anniversary, have a « girls weekend »  or come with family and get away from it all. Whatever your choice we can organise the rest.....

If you are interested in our weekend break please call or e-mail for the prices and full details of the stay.

Prices are £140 per person for the weekend.

Our special weekends normally run from Friday afternoon 4pm to Sunday 5pm

Chablis is to the north and it takes about 45 minutes to get there. Don't forget to visit Irancy and St Bris whilst you're there, they have great wines and at a slightly cheaper price. The medieval town of Semur en Auxois is just 10kms away, wander along the cobbled streets, take a walk around the ramparts and down to the river Armançon, have a coffee on a 'terrace' and choose from the numerous restaurants where you will eat. You can find everything you need here, banks, supermarkets, garages, post office, newsagents and a small Sunday morning market which is worth a visit.

Fontenay Abbey, the chateau at Bussy Rabutin and Chateauneuf, the basilica at Vezelay and Dijon are just a few of the historic sites to visit.

Notes: There is a childs swing and slide in the garden. The swimming pool has a very safe hard cover on it, which you can see in the photos. It solar heats the water so that the season for the pool is much longer than using a traditional bubble cover. It can be taken off the pool by sliding along rails, it's very light and easy to use. It is also the safest form of protection for the pool, it is kept locked at all times when not in use. It also has the advantage that one can swim under the cover if the weather is a bit chilly or windy, there is a side door that accesses the pool and 2 steps down into the shallow end. The house has a security gate on the stairs for use if you have small children. The house has been fitted with security smoke alarms.

Beautiful cottage and scenery

4 of 5
Submitted: August 30, 2011 Stayed: July 2011
We were very pleasantly surprised at how well equipped and tastefully decorated the cottage was. Everything you could need in the kitchen plus a very comprehensive guide to the local area as compiled by the owners. The pizza evening is held in the large cottage adjacent where everyone can have a go at making pizza -it was a great ice breaker and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The pool is very clean and has a clever cover that can be easily pulled over if it is a bit chilly. The owners Louise and Gerard worked very hard at making our stay enjoyable. We loved the bread man turning up in his van to sell croissants. The area is very quiet but close to interesting villages and a few moments walk away from the canal network which is fantastic for cycling. There is a barn with a few toys in (basket ball + net, badminton set etc) and a play area for younger children. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again although would ideally tie in with another family with children of the same age.The only thing that we feel could improve is another comfortable chair in the cottage, it was a bit of a squeeze four of us on one sofa! Other than that it was perfect and would highly reccomend.

My family and me spent one week in Braux. We never lived in such a lovely furnited house for holiday. Whenever we had a question, Louise, the owner of the house could give us an answer. I already recommanded the house to my parents, who want to make holiday in burgundy!

Submitted: August 5, 2010 Stayed: June 2010
We spent two weeks in Le Marronnier. The small house was was very comfortable with new kitchen equipment. Behind the house there was a small terrace. Above was a beautiful garden with a Top - Swimmingpool.
The owners were friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed very much the Pizza - evening which was created by our owners.
Braux is a nice small village in the Burgundy.

Nicely decorated, fully equiped appartment

5 of 5
Submitted: August 4, 2010 Stayed: June 2010
We stayed at this lovely Burgundy place at the start of our summer holiday for a week in June. We rented the smallest of the houses called le Marronnier but we had plenty of space for our small family (2 adults, and one small child). The house was nicely decorated, and fully equipped (oven, dishwasher, full kitchen equipment, etc). The house has a pleasant garden, overlooking the valley, with a small playground (swings, slide). There is also a nice shared pool, but unfortunately weather did not allow us to use it. The owners of the house, Louise and her husband were very pleasant hosts. They live close by in case you have any questions, but leave a lot of privacy to the guests as well. All in all we had a very nice stay and would certainly consider going back again.

Beautiful stonework, fabulous pool, tranquil spot

5 of 5
Submitted: July 2, 2009 Stayed: May 2009
We spent 6 days with our 2 and 3 year old boys in the larger house (because the others were unavailable). The place is beautiful, with a stone sink that must be seen to be believed. Pizza night was a hoot, and our boys generally played lots with the owners kids who live around the corner. Fabulous views, nice garden, several nice spots to sit or lunch or what not. The houses are old but fully renovated with unbelievable amounts of beautiful stonework throughout (sinks, stairs, walls, around the pool, etc). This helps them stay very cool on hot days. Renting two or three houses would make a fabulous spot for a large group.
