Experience this beautiful university town founded by the Romans. It has immense charm, outstanding historic architecture, great food, hearty wine, bustling markets, sunny year-round weather, and an international cosmopolitan flavor.
It is quite accessible to Avignon (an hour), Nimes (an hour and a quarter), Arles (50 minutes), Marseille (35 minutes), and Mediterranean beaches (35 minutes), and just about an hour and a half to the Cote d'Azur. In opinion polls, it has more than once been voted on by French people as the town they would most like to live in.
The air-conditioned property is located in one of the loveliest areas of Aix, but only two miles from the center of town in a calm semi-country setting with large trees and beautiful Provencal vegetation. One can walk to the Cours Mirabeau (the Champs Elysees of Aix) in 35 minutes, as it is only 2 miles away or else there is bus service only 700 meters from the property. For those who enjoy nature rambles, in the other direction you can take a walk or jog to a 16th century tower (also about a half hour). T
The air-conditioned house is owner occupied a large part of the year and is therefore very well equipped and maintained. It is charming and well-furnished with 17th, 18th, and 19th century doors throughout. It features a combination living/dining room, an office, and a recently renovated fully-equipped kitchen as well as two double bedrooms and a sleeping loft for two people overlooking the living room. A large terrace and garden surround the house which is located on a hill, and one climbs steps to reach it. The view from the terrace is exceptional. Off-street parking is available.
There is an extensive library with books for all tastes as well as a DVD player with a selection of English language films.

I spent my junior year abroad in France on the Smith College program, which began in Aix. I immediately fell in love with the town but never dreamed that it would someday be my home. I have now lived here for over half my life, and it remains my favorite place in the world.

This property is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Aix on the side of town which has been protected from development. Since the city has tripled in size in the last 60 years, the demographic pressure has been considerable. And although the development has been successfully done for the most part, there are few areas so close to the heart of town with such large properties and lovely homes.
This property has the advantage of being very close to the city but in a quiet and beautiful environment. This makes it ideal for people traveling together, perhaps sharing a car, but having different schedules. Some can rise early and have breakfast in a café in town, while others can sleep in late, take a nature walk or relax with a book under the fig tree on the terrace and join them later for lunch. This also would make it ideal for families traveling with teens or young adults.
Aix is an enchanting town with something for everyone. It has great medieval, 17th, and 18th century architecture along with bustling fruit, vegetable and flower markets, myriad restaurants and cafes, museums, concerts, theater, a wide choice of original version films (Aix is one of the best movie towns in France), a world-class opera festival in summer, a lively student population, proximity to Mediterranean beaches and beautiful countryside.
