HUGE gite (sleeps 12-16) in the stunning town of Beaulieu sur Dordogne. 18-19c spacious comfortable and stylish house with balconies, garden, nice views on Romanesque abbey and water. And all amenities at hand. Close to Collonges la Rouge, Rocamadour, Gouffre de Padirac, wealth of typical villages, caves, castles, prehistoric and natural sites. At walking medieval distance :services, local market, restaurants, river+pool bath, montgolfière... Views on running water and Romanesque abbey. This house full of character was bought by the owner's family in 1840, and many rooms retain some original features, such as marble fireplace, ancient mirror or paintings, or wooden floor. Everything is not perfect since this welcoming home has irregular walls or so, due to its old age, and adding contribution to its authentic charm. Enclosed walled garden 500m2,with trees providing shade, roses and shrubs. Numerous character features in a delightful location : Better stay a fortnight !

Beaulieu sur Drdogne is in Correze (Limousin), just close to Lot (Querc) and Dordogne (Perigird). Also known as the Riviera of the Limousin, with its palms and banana trees, Beaulieu is right on the banks of the Dordogn river. The medieval town has links with Cluny abbey, and posseses a rich archituctural heritage, including the romanesque abbey with its famous tympanum, the Chapel of the Penitens, its narrow alleys flanked by half-timberd houses, and a traditioal river-barge. Beaulieu is part of the "station verte de vacance chart" which groups rural or moutain villages able to present a natural attraction and un unspoilt environment, with a god leisure equipement. I is close to several "most beautiful villages of France", castles and caves. Canoeing and fishing are usual.

    If you come by air, Beaulieu is one hour drive south from Limoges, two hours north from Toulouse or east from Bergerac. The Brive-Souillac airport, 40 kms from Beaulieu, is bound to open by summer 2010.

    If you prefer train, through Paris or Calais, Brive is a 40 minutes drive (if you resist visiting the nice villages on the way).

    By road, railway A20 (Paris- Toulouse) exit Brive Sud, then take D38 road.
    Or railway A89 (Bordeaux Lyon) exit Tulle, then take D940 road.

    - Prices include electricity (except heating if necessary in autumn), gas, water and local taxes.

  • The property boasts WC (3), bathroom (1), showeroom (2), see description above Garden The enclosed walled 500m2 mature garden is charming, with trees providing shade and many flowers and shrubs : nice place to eat under the flowered albizzia tree, or to sun bath (except for goldfish no private 19century swimming pool, sorry ; you will have a short walk by te river bank before swimming!) or for kids to play at the sandpit, then under the shrubs or around the banana trees. IMPORTANT: To adapt to the American standard, we have converted the European bathroom information.

  • Enjoy 3 large living rooms, balconies throughout : - the spacious dining room can easily seat everybody when you do not choose outdoor eating. Then have coffee in - the larger living room, with its nice parquet floor ; it also has direct access to the balcony, as the 2 others rooms. From here, please proceed to - the Clibrary, very clear, on the water side, where some will enjoy reading while others are chatting. Maybe you'll also use it as an extra bedroom (two children beds) On the first floor, 5 spacious bedrooms : in total 3 double beds, 10 single beds, and cots. Choose the Dordogne room (double plus single) if you like waking up with the sun rising behind the green hills and the light sound of water in the channel. Choose Elise (double plus single) or Abbatiale (double 160x200 plus two singles) if you prefer to fall asleep with the illuminated abbey tower in your dreams. And enjoy the garden if you sleep in Marcellin or Marie bedrooms.

Notes: The large cellar provides storage for your bicycles, canoes or kayaks, the local wine or the day's catch : just keep it fresh in the stream, you can reach it through this cellar. An extra room near the attic may be used by children for playing or watching videotapes, or by a solitary watching birds. Of course, the old house has been fitted with many modern facilities : kitchen (kettles, grill, toasters (although with fresh bread from the bakers only minutes walk away and oh so delicious it's unlikely you'll use the toaster!), 4 rings gas stoveoven, 2 fridges, large combined microwave, dishwasher...), highchairs ... You may park in the street or enter the old iron gate between its two typical red stone pillars. You proceed by a few steps from the garden to the terrace and ground floor of the house. Movable gates are available to keep your young kids under control on the balcony near the dining or living room if you wish to. The balcony also protects the drying shed.
