Costa Calida: The Costa Calida, Spain's 'warm coast' is a fairly undiscovered part of south-eastern Spain. La Azohia is a totally unspoilt idyllic Spanish fishing village. There are no large tour operators here, and even in the height of the season you will be able to find empty beaches along the coast.
The region of Murcia is locally known at the 'Market Garden of Spain' as it grows all kinds of salad vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, rice and grapes. The Costa Calida boasts 320 days of sunshine a year, average temperatures in the winter are 17 degrees, and 27 degrees in the summer.
The governing bodies, the Town Halls, in this region are anxious to protect the national heritage of their mountains, salt lakes, beaches and grasslands and have allocated huge areas to be reserved as National and Regional Parks. Having learned lessons from costas on each side of the region, they will not allow building at the expense of the local flora, fauna and quality of life.
Places to Visit: A five minute drive will take you to the little resort of Isla Plana where there are more restaurants, bars, shops and a bank.
Ten minutes drive will find you in the bustling port of Mazarron. Shops, pavements cafes, and bars are abundant here, an ideal place for young and old alike. The tree lined promenade is a favourite place for families to take an evening stroll, and watch the sun go down.
Further afield, approximately 30 minutes drive, is the famous port of Cartegena. Here you will see enormous cruise ships docking on a daily basis to enjoy the rich history of the port. The area has wonderful architecture and very classy shops, many vibrant squares, and well worth exploring.
Inland there are many places to visit, including the holy city of Caravaca de la Cruz. Travelling through orange, lemon, and olive groves, you will discover many jewels off the beaten track.
Activities in the Area: Come to La Azohia and you will relax … there is almost no pace of life here. This is an excellent area for families and couples. Walkers will also love this area as it caters for those who like long leisurely strolls on the flat, as well as those who prefer the more rugged environment. For the more energetic, there is golf, swimming, windsurfing, diving at all levels, sailing, boat cruises, biking, river rafting, tennis. For the less energetic, there is a spa at the local 4 star La Azohia hotel.
For families, La Azohia is the ideal safe environment, it's where the Spanish spend their holidays.
The area enjoys a wealth of interesting historical and geographical sites – salt flats, the largest lagoon in Europe at Mar Menor, mineral mines at Mazarron, the oldest submarine in the world, cannon sites, pirate lookouts, Roman and Carthaginian remains in Cartagena, Moorish architecture, Holy Cities, International Jazz festivals, rock concerts, fairs.
'A very attractive apartment, spacious and furnished to a high standard. Views from the solarium were magnificent, and all in all very peaceful. La Azohia itself is a real find - totally unspoiled surrounded by mountains, with crystal clear waters, and a lovely long promenade, making it suitable for couples, families, and mature people' (Review submitted 01/01/2006)
'I stayed in this apartment in June and was very impressed by the unspoiled location. The property is very well equipped, and the views from the solarium are quite stunning. I would recommend this for anyone who would like to enjoy unspoiled Spain' (Review submitted 12/06/2005)
'I first visited La Azohia three years ago and was impressed by the stunning scenery and how unspoiled the region is. I recently stayed in this new apartment, and have to say that the location is first class. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, there's so much to see and do, I would recommend it to young and old alike' (Review submitted 2/09/2005)

not commercialised area with lovely mountain walks... and the moorish tower to walk to .. well recommend,,,xxx
We arrived quite late on a Friday evening, Dave - the apartment manager / caretaker picked us up from the airport, and gave us a tour of the town so we had our bearings for the following day which was very handy. The apartment is lovely, very clean and spacious - the sun terrace is HUGE ! (the picture really does not do it justice), with stunning views, we spent some wonderful evenings up there with our nibbles of olives, cheese, pate and of course - chilled wine. We were there in August 2013 and had gorgeous weather. The bedrooms are pleasant and the kitchen fully equipped with everything you could need. The lounge is well decorated with comfy sofas and patio doors leading out onto a little balcony and steps up to the roof terrace. It has air-conditioning in every room, which was very welcome during the nights which can get warm and sticky. The complex is very clean and the communal pools cool and inviting , despite being the height of the summer holidays, we were often the only ones swimming - an unexpected bonus. We had a wonderful stay here and would definitely go again and recommend to friends and family as a truly 'get away from it all' holiday in a typically Spanish town.
THIS PROPERTY IS VERY NICE.
THE DECOR IS VERY NICE TOO, NEAT.
THE BEDROOMS ARE A GOOD SIZE, THE WARDROBES ARE VERY BIG.
IT HAS SOME EXTRA THINGS THAT CAME IN HANDY, LIKE DECK CHAIRS AND UNBRELLAS FOR THE BEACH.
IN OCTOBER WHEN WE WENT, IT WAS VERY PEACEFULL. AND STILL HOT,
LOVELEY VIEWS FROM THE ROOF TERRACE.
SEA IN FROUNT AND MOUNTAINS BEHIND,
THE STAIRS UP TO IT ARE FINE FOR ADULTS, BUT NOT FOR YOUNG CHILDREN OR ELDERY OR DISABLED. ESSPECIALLY WHEN CARRYING THINGS.
MOST ARE OK BUT THE TOP 3 BEND ROUND A CORNER SO ARE VERY NARROW AT ONE END. THE LIVING ROOM IS A BIT SMALLER THAN IT LOOKED IN PICTURE, BUT WAS FINE FOR 4 OF US.
THE MAIN TOILET DID KEEP BLOCKING UP UNTILL WE STOPPED PUTTING TOILET PAPER DOWN IT (USED A BAG IN THE BIN WITH A LID.IN BATHROOM. ) AND THE SHOWER IS VERY SMALL, OK IF YOU'R VERY THIN. THERE IS AN OTHER SHOWER IN THE ON SUITE BATHROOM, SO WE USED THAT.
THE POOLS ARE NOT HEATED. BUT THE SEA IS WARM.
THE CHAIRS IN LIVING ROOM ARE GREAT
THE TV HAS LOTS OF ENGLISH CHANNELS. AND THE DVD PLAYS ENGLISH DVDS, (TO MAKE IT WORK YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG THE SKY BOX POWER WIRE out of the back of the box FIRST.)
PARKING IS FINE IN OCTOBER, BUT WAS TOLD VERY DIFFICULT IN HIGH SEASON.
THERE ARE PLENTY OF BIG SUPPERMARKETS IN PORTA DE MAZARON. THERE IS A SMALL ONE LOCALLY ON THE SEA FROUNT.
DONT BOTHER TAKING FISHING RODS AS WE DID, AS YOU CANNOT GET A LISENCE WITHOUT A NUMBER (IE,LIKE A SPANISH NATIONAL NSURANCE NO, WHICH RESIDANCE HAVE.) YOU CANNOT FISH EVEN IN THE SEA WITHOUT IT.
AND STICK TO SPEED RESTRICTIONS IF DRIVING, AS POLICE ARE ON THE BALL.
THE ONLY WAY I COULD SEE TO STOP YOUNG CHILDREN GETTING TO THE ROOF STAIRS IS TO KEEP THE BALCONEY DOOR SHUT AND LOCKED. AS I WOULD NOT LIKE TO RISK YOUNG CHILDREN ALONE ON THEM. THERE IS A LIGHT ON THEM FOR NIGHT TIME.
BUT ALL IN ALL IT IS A NICE APARTMENT AND CLEAN.
IT WAS LOVELY ON THE LOUNGERS AT NIGHT LOOKING AT THE STARS. AND SOMETIMES YOU CAN HEAR THE SEA.
Apartment was well laid out with two bathrooms, and well sized bedrooms and the lounge area was just like being at home it was so nicely set out.
Could not believe how close to the beach which is so unspoilt, paths with beautiful picnic areas with palm trees run along the sea shore to the nearest village with superb views as you walk along which change accordingly to the lay of the land, all with beautiful mountains not far away. I felt that this is a part of Spain that is as it should be.
Cyclists walkers runners and people who love nature would find this perfect .
The local villages and the nearest town are well kept and give you all the choices of food sights and social life that would please most people.
I was amazed at the difference of the quiet to the bustle of the local town. There is a rich historical side to the area as well.
My overall feeling about my stay in La Azohia is that I discovered an unspoilt gem of a part of Spain where I will return with my 3 generations of family.
This luxury apartment is situated in an area of outstanding unspoilt natural beauty in fact the surrounding hills one feels one could just reach out and touch them from the roof top solarium. After visiting a number of times in recent years I have seen the area tastefully develop from a sleepy fishing and diving centre into a select inviting destination. The promenade walk by the sea with bird watch to Isla Plana is uplifting as are the glorious sunsets.
Extremely well worth the experience.
My husband, myself and our 3 children have had three lovely holidays at this apartment - that is how highly we would recommend it!
The apartment is modern, comfortable and well equipped. The large roof terrace has fantastic views.
La Azohia is a real find. It is very pretty and relatively quiet even in August. The beaches are good and the water shelves gently making them very safe for children.
This apartment is absolutely perfect for a family holiday.
La Azohia, on the Costa Calida where time stands still. Soak up the sunshine and relax. Enjoy a leisurely stroll down to the sea front through fragrant pine trees to watch the fish catch brought into the village jetty. The newly built tree lined promenade stretches for miles, allowing a flat coastal walk to neighbouring village Isla Plana. Situated at the eastern end of Mazarron bay, La Azohia is the jewel of the Costa Calida. Backed by mountains, this is an idyllic fishing village where the pace of life is far from hurried. Just 20 minutes from Cartagena and 10 minutes from Puerto de Mazarron, where you will find many restaurants, shops and bars this is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday.
El Pinar De San Gines is a small exclusive development, built to blend in with surrounding mountain scenery. Only 500 metres from the beach, the area has a charm of its own. La Azohia itself has 4 diving schools, a few Spanish bars and restaurants, a 4 star hotel, and a mini-market.
Golf: For Golfers there are many courses in the area including Camposol which is just 20 minutes drive from the apartment, and the famous La Manga Golf Club is just 40 minutes drive.
