Family Vacation

Absolutely wonderful. House was spotless so much room and each bedroom has its own bath!
Ohana was perfect for my daughters little family...the pool was perfect, and the lanai off the kitchen's view of sunset was gorgeous. Walked to magic sands to swim each day veey convenient for young and old alike. The house decor was extremely tasteful and the house held everything we needed.

Highly recommend for families with children of all ages...or for couples wanting to get away.

Owner's Response: Aloha Lisa,

Mahalo for the great review! We too feel that the home is great for families and couples alike and made a effort to set it up that way both with convenience and the decor. It's nice to see the feedback confirms our teams efforts. We're glad you enjoyed the Ohana and pool and the sunsets too. Mahalo...Mike & Laura

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Traveling with family ranging from 19 - 95 years of age. The house was clean, felt like "home" and was quite well equipped for everything from cooking (to include a nice outdoor grill) to going to the beach (snorkel gear, beach towels. beach chairs, etc). Multiple bedrooms with their own bathrooms was a huge plus. Location for getting around the Island was excellent -- Kona-side Beaches readily available (to include having some sea-turtles swim next to us); house about 20 minutes from the airport; major grocery store within 5 minute drive; all in a residential area. We were able to cook, eat, play games, watch some football, etc all as a family in the house. Enjoyed the many beaches (although far more rock frequently than sand), volcanoes, zip-lines (Umauma Falls). Had no luck on the manta ray snorkel (the rays did not show). Kona Inn restaurant nearby had excellent dinner. in short, would stay here again.

Family Christmas

  • 4 of 5
There were eleven of us, six adults and five kids, aged 72 to 6. We all enjoyed our week at the Blue Lagoon house. Very clean, and nicely appointed. The gift basket was a very nice touch. You have to navigate stairs to enter the house and then up two flights to get to the main portion of the house. This could be an issue for some.
Plenty of room for all and it was great having so many bathrooms. We had a few, very minor, problems that Colleen, the property manager, quickly attended to. She is a jewel.
We were looking forward to the 5 kids walking to Magic Sands beach. But it's other moniker, Disappearing Sands Beach, was in play and did not work for our family. As this is a quiet residential area away from the Kailua Kona hubbub, you really need a car to get around. This house has virtually no windows, just screened in window spaces. We had two strong and windy storms that passed through and caused rain to come in the upstairs master bedroom's screened windows, above the bed, and the bamboo window coverings, to bang about. There are plenty of televisions in the bedrooms, but none where we could all sit and watch in a common area. There were lots of beach toys and chairs. It was great that they provide beach towels and you don't have to bring them from home. Gramma & Grampa loved having the self contained casita to themselves.
The pool with waterfall is beautiful, and the kids loved the turtle mosaic at the bottom. The pool is not heated. It was in the shade nearly all day and fairly cold. Perhaps at other times of the year this is not an issue. The house is not airconditoned, as it relies on the trade winds. It wasn't much of a factor during our winter stay, but for most mainlanders temps above 85 require air conditioning to be comfortable.
We spent a great deal of time on the lanai, with it's beautiful view. Grilling our fresh caught ahi and eating on the lanai was terrific. All in all a very wonderful holiday with family at a very special and memorable place.

Vacation with Friends and Kids

  • 4 of 5
My family of four rented this house with our friends' family of four for an amazing Thanksgiving week in Hawaii. The master suite upstairs was beautifully decorated with a four-post bed and a mosaic in the walk-in shower. There was an office space upstairs, next to the master, with a futon that one of the kids chose to sleep on. The three downstairs bedrooms all had their own bathrooms. The room with 2 twin beds worked well for my 2 kids, and the queen sized bedroom was the landing spot for the fourth kid. The downstairs room with the king bed (actually 2 twin beds strapped together) worked great as a second adult room. Each room also had it's own door to the outside with separate keyed entries, which I would have been nervous about had our children been any younger (the youngest was 7).
The kitchen was great for preparing our meals, which helped save on expenses since we were able to stop at Costco on our way from the airport.
The pool was great for lounging around in the evening, although the short walk to La'aloa Beach (3 blocks) was where the kids preferred to spend any and all free time. The waves were great for boogie boarding and body surfing, and wave jumping. We never made it down to snorkel at Kahaluu Bay, which was just south of us and is supposed to be amazing.
The house was too far from downtown Kona-Kailua to walk (3-4 miles), so I'd definitely recommend having a car. We felt the house was in the perfect location to act as base camp for our Hawaii vacation. The caretaker was quick to respond to any questions and concerns we had. I would recommend this house to friends and family for sure!

Owner's Response: Aloha Amy,

Mahalo for your review and glad your time was well spent on the island. We too love going to White Sands Beach (La'aloa Beach) and boogie board while watching the sunset. Hope you used the boogie boards we provide at the home. Bummer you didn't make the snorkeling because it is awesome, next time.

A car for the drive into town is a good idea although the open air bus is kind of cool too.

Hope the upcoming holidays are great and we hope you return.

An ok stay

  • 3 of 5
My group was 11 people. Online the site said 6 bedrooms. Was what exactly what my party was looking for. However when we got there the 6th bedroom was actually more of an office we a futon in it. The other negatives were lack of dish towels. Living room ceiling fan stopped working. We had also requested an early check in at 12pm which was approved but the care takers of the home were still there cleaning the house tell about 1pm and there was another man fixing a toilet there in the afternoon and again later at night doing something else. Not really sure who he was but it put a few of the girls in our party alittle bit uneasy. The place worked great for what we needed it for. But I just felt a bit swindled upon arrival and for the duration of the stay.

Owner's Response: Owner’s response:

It was mentioned: "However when we got there the 6th bedroom was actually more of an office we a futon in it."
This is how we describe it in the description detail portion of our listing:
Upstairs: Master bedroom with a queen and second family room set up to be used as a bedroom room with a futon full bed and office nook.

It was mentioned: “…. lack of dish towels.”
WE only place enough dish towels for the duration of stay. In this case it was two nights. As a reminder our clients have full access to the laundry amenities which is a brand new washer and dryer.

It was mentioned: “Living room ceiling fan stopped working.” Mahalo for reporting the ceiling fan. It's now fixed.

It was mentioned: “We had also requested an early check in at 12 pm which was approved but the caretakers of the home were still there cleaning the house until about 1pm and there was another man fixing a toilet there in the afternoon and again later at night doing something else.”
The late rental request was a little bit of a challenge for our house cleaners. They did a great job to have the home ready. They are very good at what they do and take pride in their work. This is the first time as owners we Okayed an early check-in, we were just trying to be accommodating. As a reminder our property manager indicated to the client that we do not usually do less than four or five day stays (4 day minimum stay low season, 7 day minimum high season), however we allowed a 2 night stay in this case because the clients were from a well-known and respected religious institution and we wanted to help out. Homes sometimes need maintenance. It wasn't until our housekeepers where cleaning did they find a leak. It needed to be fixed and as owners were good and fixing things right away because we do take considerable pride in the home. With the home this close to the ocean, maintenance is most definitely a challenge.

It was mentioned: “Not really sure who he was but it put a few of the girls in our party a little bit uneasy.”
Don’t know how to respond to this stereotypical quote. Our maintenance person is a retired well educated family man who is very respected in the Kona community.

It was mentioned: “The place worked great for what we needed it for. But I just felt a bit swindled upon arrival and for the duration of the stay.”
We're glad the 2 day stay worked out for you. Apologies for the feeling it left the client.

Great place to visit

  • 5 of 5
My wife and i were looking for a nice place to stay in kona for our anniversary and came across this beautiful home. We were looking for a more at home feeling while we were on vacation instead of staying in a hotel and this place did that and more. The house felt so relaxing with the way it was decorated it litterally felt just like home. Some of the great features were the views from the balconys overlooking the pool and the great landscaping. Also the sunset from outside was amazing the way it went down behind the palm trees it was unreal definetly didn't want to leave. Some other great features were if you wanted to you could walk to beach in about 7 minutes or drive there in just 2 minutes or so and the beach had great snorkling very much to look at. Just down the street had very many restaurants with ocean views very pretty and great food and at a very reasonable price. Well i dont want to ramble on about my great time there you will need to check it out for yourself. My final words are the house was so amazing just relaxing at the pool watching the sunset or having coffee on the balconys we are planning another trip next year and taking all the family.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! The Blue Lagoon Kona Rental does have a home feel to it and mahalo for recognizing it. We're glad to see vacationers that stay at the home take advantage of all the amenities it has to offer with the short walk to the beach and the snorkeling. And yes, we also love the sunset you can see from the lanai and living room. Mahalo for the stay and we're glad you enjoyed the home for your anniversary.

Shielded from winds by Maunaloa, south Kona’s calm and clear waters are perfect for snorkeling, diving and spotting dolphins and honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles). One of Kona’s most memorable experiences is going on a manta ray boat tour to scuba or snorkel with these gentle, graceful sea creatures. Kona is also famous for its deep-sea fishing, hosting the International Billfish Tournament (August) every year. And on land, don’t forget to travel to the cooler upland slopes of towns like Holualoa, where you can sample the distinctive flavors of 100% Kona coffee. On the versatile Kona coast, you’ll find the adventures are as big as the island itself. http://www.gohawaii.com/big-island/regions-neighborhoods/kona
