Ruby Montana migrated to Palm Springs, Ca. in 2000 after purchasing a small boutique hotel called Ruby Montana's Coral Sands Inn. Prior to living in Palm Springs, Ruby was a resident of the wonderful Seattle, Washington, and had a store there for some twenty years. Ruby Montana's Pinto Pony in Pioneer Square was a kitsch Emporium that held everything from a Corbusier sofa to an invisible dog leash. Whack and wonderful. Ruby sponsered the National Spam Contest in Seattle for 10 years and was featured in People Magazine and on Jay Leno with regard to it...interviewed every February by 100s of radio stations internationally about the whacky contest. Ruby went to The University of Michigan and received a degree in Music. She majored in the French Horn and it managed to pay her way through college. Ruby was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, and is a pie baker. Ruby has a deep regard for animals and a passion for rescuing small dogs. In April 2013 Ruby formed a 501(c)3 called Ruby Montana's Pie in the Sky Animal Rescue. She saves 100s of dogs a year from certain death by fostering them and then placing them in homes. Ruby began baking pies for Trio Restaurant in order to meet the costs of rescuing a dog from a shelter. Each dog costs in the neighborhood of $200 to rescue. Her pies were always in such demand at Trio that she started Ruby Montana's Pie in the Sky Pie of the Month Club. Ruby had 50 members at last count. Her Let the Sunshine Lemon Meringue Pie is so popular at Trio Restaurant that it is generally sold out before 7 p.m. Ruby Montana's Coral Sands Inn sits close to Rancho Las Palmas and they work beautifully for hosting larger groups of people...reunions, weddings, retreats, golf getaways...you name it. Ruby loves the Old Las Palmas neighborhood that Rancho and The Coral Sands are located in. They are situated just around the corner from Liberace's first home where one can still find the original grand piano mail box. Incredible
Ruby Montana purchased this house in 2014
The Old Las Palmas neighborhood was developed in the mid-1920’s by New York builder Alvah Hicks and his son, Harold. Today, Old Las Palmas is recognized as one of the premier locations in Palm Springs and many of the older estates and homes in the neighborhood are being updated and given the love they deserve. Formerly a citrus grove, Old Las Palmas sits against the backdrop of the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains.
Spent a week at Rancho Las Palmas earlier this month as part of a family reunion. Las Palmas accommodated us perfectly. Four couples, four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Very comfortable bed - which is an important factor for me. No matter the weather this place was great as we could eat inside or out. Kitchen was well supplied with great pots/pans and serving dishes. Pool was heated and well maintained. Very quiet neighbourhood but within walk of Old Town Palm Springs and all the neat shops and restaurants there. Property provided privacy with a great view of the mountains and the landscaping was very nice. Loved the polished cement floors throughout which were easy to clean during the week.
Only suggestion would be to have a larger table/chair set inside for when we were all there at the same time for a meal - but not a big problem as the beautiful oak table had a leaf insert and chairs could be pulled from other areas of the house. Loved the decor and the simplicity and functionality of the place. Look forward to being here again.
What a wonderful vacation spot for a multi family reunion- Quiet, comfortable, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and with lots of space for get-togethers to share memories and hopes and dreams for the future. Beautiful views of the mountains and spectacular gardens. Walks or bike rides around the neighbourhood and then hanging out around the warm & wonderful pool were enjoyed by the whole gang. Shopping in the downtown area was fun and a short drive or walk away as well as grocery stores were within a 1/2 hr walk . We all took turns cooking and preparing delicious meals in the well equipped kitchen. Several sight seeing adventures to Joshua National Park. Desert Hot Springs. local museums, Pioneer Village and Eidleweise are a must. Activities you might want to take part in are Pickle Ball, Golf, Thursday Night Market, Aquafit or the Gym at the "Y" in Washington Ave and a concert at the McCallum Theatre. This was a gathering that we want to repeat sooner rather than later. Thanks to our Son, our host, for sharing your beautiful rental home with us. Thank you Ruby, the booking agent, for helping with organization and planning of our holiday. May we all LIVE large, LAUGH lots, and LOVE many until we meet again. Mom & Dad
This is a lovely quiet spot. It is spacious and immaculate. The kitchen is well supplied. I particularly enjoyed the pool area and found the landscaping with the many varieties of cactus fun to identify.
We enjoyed the walks in the neighborhood where beautiful homes are plentiful. Also, the walk downtown was just the right distance and jogging through the community, safe with very little traffic. Bikes are also available.
Grocery stores are very close and the pickleball courts a 15 min drive.
It is ideal for a family or 4 couples. We had come together for a family reunion and we had plenty of room for cooking, sharing and downtime when a rest called to us!
We would definitely love to return!
Oh, yes, I must not forget to tell you, Ruby, the booking agent, is so helpful and a delight to talk to!
We loved our stay at Rancho Las Palmas over the Christmas week. There was much to satisfy all tastes and preferences in our group. Those who like to take a stroll found a neighbourhood of fine homes and nearby a street with boutiques and coffee shops. As well, the handy bus stop meant we could go our separate ways from time to time.
The house is very spacious, ideal for families or groups who want to meet together or escape to find a quiet place to read or nap. The kitchen was well equipped to take on anything the menu demanded. We will definitely go back again.
We recently spent Thanksgiving weekend at Rancho Las Palmas with our family which included 4 couples. The house is perfect for entertaining as well as offering privacy for each couple. Everything about this rental is great - the location, the vintage furnishings, the lovely pool area, and the fully stocked kitchen. We highly recommend this house for a Palm Springs experience. Thanks Ruby!
We recently spent a long weekend at Rancho Las Palmas and loved every second of it. This place is effortlessly cool with a great layout and an incredible back yard. The interior has been thoughtfully decorated with cool vintage pieces and there's a bathroom for every bedroom! But outside is where you'll want to be when you're staying here - when we were there, the back yard had just been newly landscaped and it was gorgeous. In addition to numerous fully grown palm trees surrounding the pool, new Mediterranean and desert plants have been installed giving the yard incredible interest and a real lushness. The views of the San Jacinto mountains are almost surreal - it's like you can reach out and touch them - and unlike other places we've stayed at in Palm Springs - there are no power lines to block your view. There's plenty of outdoor seating for lounging and eating and a great built in grill and fireplace for when the weather dips down into the 70s!
Ranch Las Palmas is highly walkable. It's just 2 blocks from Palm Canyon and you can easily get to restaurants and shops on foot. We loved finding our way through the neighborhood and taking in all the architecture, tall hedges, and history of the area.
I love this property and can't wait to go back!
