Overview

Cortes Island Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Posh Savary island (5-mile finger of soft pale sand). In a wooded enclave a few minutes walk from the beach, huddle a group of shingled driftwood cabins. Come and stay and experience the rustic life-style of an island beachcomber.

Rustic? Yes, we're completely off grid, here. There is solar enough to charge your devices and keep you in cell coverage, but otherwise expect to rough it. Bring what you need and your needs will be pleasantly surpassed.

Eight people could stay sharing the cabins, the wee trailer, or the tarp sail. But if you are just two or three I recommend the Cappuccino Cottage described below.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • limited accessibility
  • non smoking only
  • pets not allowed

About Rosemary

The cottages on Savary are diamonds in the rough.

This is a true off-grid experience.

A step up from camping and a step into a world of driftwood art.

I like the night sky and the big and plentiful stars.

I like the soft light of candles and lamps.

Rosemary purchased this cabin in 2013

Rustic Tranquility on a Budget

Oh what an amazing find - The legend of The Mint lives on!!

I have been coming to Savary island for about 15 years and camping out near The Mint and shared mint tea after a good hot shower rigged from a car engine. Over the years I watched the creative genius, some might say eccentric, proprietor Heider roll drift wood and assorted treasures off the beach with his bicycle and turn these into enchanting places to sleep and play: Saloon with swings, expresso coffee bar, ships upper deck for a peak a boo ocean view, a ping pong table, darts, and fun games room....so amazing!!

This year, I was thrilled to meet the new owner Rosemary and hear how she ailes to preserve The Mint as a unique place to stay on Savary.

I enjoyed 2 nights in the roomy Saloon Suite! So quiet at night, fresh air and stars. Warm duvet covers and soft pillows was a bonus...as well as the quality TP in the clean outhouse that doesn't smell!

Rosemary took great care to ensure my comfort in her rustic establishment. Oil lanterns at night brought a sense of pioneering as the settlers did 100 years ago! What fun and great experience for youngsters. I will definitely stay at The Mint next time I'm visiting paradise on Savary Island!!

Thanks Rosemary for your efforts!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for coming to spend a couple of enchanted days at the Mint Teahouse. It was good of you to rest your knapsack for two days and find comfort in the rough log studio. It was some serendipity to have your stay coincide with other interesting visitors as well. I am sure we will enjoy brie, biscuits and cappuccinos again one day!
