Photos and Description of the Kalkan - Kas area vacation villa rental 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 8 (up to 12 with separate annex).

The villa is on a hillside in a quiet residential area above Kalkan Old Town. The setting is stunning with a backdrop of the Taurus mountains and spectacular views of Kalkan and Kalamar Bays yet within walking distance of the town, harbour and beach. The light and airy accommodation has been beautifully furnished to a very high standard with marble flooring, air conditioning and central heating throughout. The open plan living room has an open fire and a vaulted dining area with table to seat 10. The four double (two can be twin) bedrooms each with en suite bathroom have been individually designed to exacting standards. There is a separate annex room in the garden with 2 bunk beds (ideal for teenagers) or a small family. The modern fitted kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher and large fridge freezer. Outside there is a private swimming pool and sun loungers, a covered area for al fresco & BBQ dining and several terraces, including two roof terraces. Wi-fi access throughout.

The enchanting historic town of Kalkan on the Mediterranean coast is a sophisticated place with its narrow streets leading down to a picturesque harbour. It is renown for its high quality restaurants, many set at roof top level, offering a wide variety of dishes at reasonable prices. By nigjht Kalkan has a bustling relaxed atmosphere with its narrow cobbled streets lined with small boutiques and atmospheric bars playing blues and jazz. A range of outdoor activities are available in Kalkan including diving, snorkeling, canoeing, water skiing, sailing, para gliding and windsurfing. Regular boat trips from Kalkan harbour explore the area and beautiful coastline including the well known gulet cruises. Patara beach, voted in 2005 by The Sunday Times as one of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches in the Mediterranean, has18 km of white sand and is approx a 25 mins drive. Kalkan beach, a ‘ blue flag ’ beach and the harbour are approx a 5 min car ride or 20-25 minute walk (steep walk).

Gardens etc.: Private swimming pool surrounded by marble travertine terraces with wooden sun loungers and sun shades. Covered outside dining area with large oval table and 14 chairs for alfresco dining. Built in barbecue. A further seating area with coffee table and chairs leads off the main sitting room. There is a sofa and chairs outside the Garden Suite. Steps lead up to a terraced garden with a shaded seating area of comfortable, squashy sofas to recline and admire the fabulous views out to the Mediterranean and the back drop of the mountains. It has to be the perfect place to relax and unwind! The rood terrace has a fabulous ottoman seating area with large cushions to recline and look at the stunning view and stars at night. It has a pergula over to protect from the sun during the day time.

Travel: The nearest airport is Dalaman which is approx 1 ½ hours drive. Dalaman is now open all year round and has many flights from the UK, including direct flights with Easyjet from Gatwick and Manchester. Anatyla airport is a 2 ½ - 3 hour drive. Transfer by private taxi or minibus at very reasonable prices can be arranged with prior notice. Distances 5 min (or 20-25 min walk) taxi drive to Kalkan centre and harbour. Kas is 27 km.

Something for everyone

We swapped the grey skies of Britain for sunny Kalkan in late October 2008 and had the most wonderful holiday in this beautiful place. Not only is the Villa Vanilla decorated, equipped and maintained to a very high standard, the kitchen is a chef’s delight.

Having woken to blue skies and that fabulous view, a walk down the hill to the local market revealed a huge choice of fresh, local produce. The teenagers in our party explored the cobbled streets whilst I stretched out on a sun lounger keeping half an eye on the two younger children who played for hours in the pool. The two keen walkers planned their route along the Lycian way.

The owners provided plenty of useful ( and accurate) information about airport transfers, local restaurants and places to visit. A small fish restaurant tucked away in the hills above Kalkan was a particularly satisfying recommendation. The friendliness of the local people and the high quality of service at a reasonable price was a real bonus.

It’s rare to find a house as lovely as this, in such a perfect position with excellent restaurants, beaches, ancient ruins and inspiring walks within a short drive. We all had a great time and will definitely book this villa again.
Owner's Response: There really is such a wide variety of activities in this area from exploring ancient ruins,walking the Lycian Way, to deep sea diving, canoing or simply lying on the unpsoilt beaches in this beautiful region. It's also popular with teenagers with safe night life and children have the beach clubs which offer hours of entertainment. Finally those wonderful restaurants are not to be missed!

Great house, great view, great for kids

We rented the villa in July 2008. The house and the view were even better in real life than on the internet images. We were two families with 3 children under 4 yo; the house and the pool aerea worked so perfect for us all that we stayed by the pool most of the week, taking turns on looking after the kids. We certainly recommend the villa for young families even though it sounds not very child-friendly with a house up in the hills. You use the car all the time anyway, it is impossible to get around without it. The two beaches in the area could be reached by the car, the town beach was ok but not optimal for small children, but the other one, about 15 min drive, was beautiful and not crowded.
The service was great, starting with my first contact with the villa owner and further when we met the property manager who met all our needs including fresh bread for breakfast each morning. It might be hard for us finding something this priceworthy anywhere else next season!
Owner's Response: The villa is perfect for all age groups including young families and also adult parties. It has also been a wonderful setting for wedding and honeymoon! Some guests do not hire a car and walk into Kalkan and use the good bus services and cheap taxis to go further afield. The beaches are stunning and some of the most unspoilt and beautiful in the Med - voted in top 10 by Sunday Times.

Villa Vanilla Spring 2008

We rented Villa Vanilla over the spring break in 2008 as a big family group: four adults and foru children. The standard of the accomodation was outstanding with every need thought of and catered for. The restaurant recommendations in the villa were very helpful but we regularly stayed at the villa and cooked as the local produce was so good and the kitchen so well equipped. Every room has en-suite and the quality of the bedding and towels was superb.

The pool area was of a very high standard and maintained every day.

We enjoyed our week and were able to explore local ruins as well as go on the beautiful beaches.

Sue was extremely helpful in arranging transfers from the airport and car hire.

We hope to return next year!

Perfect Wedding & Honeymoon

We rented the villa in June 2007 and held our wedding ceremony on the roof terrace. Villa Vanilla more than lived up to our expectations and was better even than the stunning photos we had seen prior to renting it. The villa was so well equipped that we wanted for nothing and the quality of the bedding and towels made us feel like we were staying in a five star hotel. The layout (both inside and out) lends itself perfectly to both romantic time for two and big family dinners. We stayed for three weeks and enjoyed a mix of great dining in Kalkan, a few boat excursions and time around the pool. I look back at our wedding and honeymoon pictures and remember waking up every morning to that fabulous view. Villa Vanilla will always hold a special place in our hearts and we hope to return some day.
