A Home Away From Home...

Les Loriots sits perched on one of several rock terraces that offer spectacular views of the Gardon river gorge in the village of Collias. The house has three apartments that can be rented separately or as one unit.
The charming upper floor apartment with its large windows, most of which look out onto the river and pool, is spacious, comfortable, well-equipped and private. Even though the house has two other aparments, you never feel that your privacy is invaded. For those who like water and swimming, the large pool beckons from early morning and is a wonderful way to cool off after a hot and sweaty day sightseeing... or you can walk down the short driveway and go for a swim in the equally refreshing river, then pour yourself a glass of the excellent wine from Les Cabotines wine cave just up the road from the house and watch night fall on the river. Each apartment has its own space poolside, so you never have to fight other guests for your spot in the sun.
Allie, the resident owner, is delightful, and always on hand to provide whatever you need, be it extra towels or linens, or secret tips on where to eat and what to see and do.
On Saturday, drive to nearby medieval Uzes for the market and stock up on local produce, then have a leisurely lunch in one of the numerous restaurants in town before going back to the house for a nap or swim.
Les Loriots is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. For nature lovers there are miles of wonderful walks along the river and for culture vultures dozens of medieval towns and villages, steeped in history, to visit... The magnficent cities of Avignon, Nimes, Arles, Marseille and my personal favorite, Aix-en-Provence, are all within a 90-minute drive, as is the town of Sault, where purple fields of lavender stretch as far as the eye can see. The nearby Roman Pont du Gard is not to be missed. A whole summer would not be enough to exhaust all the possiblities.
We booked our first stay at Les Loriots through the internet and I can honestly say that the reality was far better than what we had expected. If you live on the continent, an additional bonus is that you can bring your dog, I can guarantee that it will enjoy its stay just as much as you.
We have been back to Les Loriots twice and will keep coming back... I cannot recommend it enough.
