Renowned for having four ski mountains and offering everything from the most beginner – friendly terrain available to some of the most challenging steeps on the planet, Aspen’s four resorts cater to everyone. In winter our legendary powder is plentiful, the runs perfectly groomed, and the trees spaciously gladed, but there’s much more to do than hitting the ski slopes. In addition to the year round activities of shopping, dining, and hitting the spa, winter in Aspen also offers ice skating, snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing and fly fishing (the fish are still biting!). Winter’s special annual events include January’s Winterskol festival and ESPN’s Winter X Games at Buttermilk.
When the snow starts to melt and green surpasses white, Aspen comes to life in its other majestic fashion, and the old local saying, “I came for the winters, but stayed for the summers” is quickly understood. Known for its perfect temperatures, Aspen’s long and sunny summer days are spent golfing, road and mountain biking, gold medal trout fishing, horseback riding, paragliding, hot air ballooning, hiking and river rafting. Special annual summer events include the FOOD & WINE Classic in June, Jazz Aspen June Music Festival, Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade, Aspen Arts Festival (July) and Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival; not to mention ongoing events such as the Snowmass Rodeo and Snowmass Concert Series.
For art enthusiasts, Aspen has a plethora of fine art galleries and museums, including the Peter Lik Fine Art Photography Gallery, Galerie Maximillian, and the Aspen Art Museum. History buffs may enjoy visiting the Aspen Historical Society and touring the Wheeler Stallard Museum while pondering their fantastic archive of over 20,000 photographs. Naturalists would appreciate touring the beautiful grounds of ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies), which surrounds the gorgeous Hallam Lake and a variety of wildlife. Photographers will take pleasure in visiting the iconic Maroon Bells and trying to capture their own perfect image of the majestic peaks that encapsulate the true meaning of “Colorado.”
Aspen & Snowmass offer a variety of fun camps and unique learning experiences for children. Ranging ski and snowboard lessons with the best instructors in the business, to a plethora of educational and adventure camps throughout the summer, children are sure to enjoy as many activities as adults.
With something for everyone, your biggest challenge may just be finding how to pack it all in! Regardless of what you choose to do, we at Time & Place look forward to assisting you and customizing your vacation to perfectly suiting your needs.
