Aloha! Welcome to our little corner of Paradise - Kona Paradise.

This beautifully maintained Hawaiian Style single family home, away from home, is 34.5 miles south of the Kailua-Kona airport (KOA), it boasts 180° of unobstructed ocean views overlooking ancient lava flows, The Kings Trail, a private pebble beach (1/2 mile away by car-4 minutes to the water), and some of the best snorkeling on the Kona coast (NO Sand). It is in a beautiful cliff side community, far away from the busy nightlife of Kona. This is where you come for peace and quiet. To relax, rejuvenate and rediscover.

Entering this contemporary single level, 3 bedroom / 2 full bath, private home in Kona Paradise, the views instantly mesmerize you. You find yourself drawn to the sky, the water, and the lulling sounds of the Pacific Ocean. Falling asleep to these sounds every night may make you want to stay here forever, it did us.

We call our hale (house) Blue Hawaii, and it is our way of taking you back to a simpler time. We have made every effort to immerse you in Hawaiian history, while keeping amenities modern, comfortable, and functional to create a memorable stay.

Blue Hawaii comfortably sleeps 2-6 adults, with one cal-king bed, and two queen beds. The Living room has a comfortable tropically designed sofa, with a matching over sized teak upholstered chair, a custom built amazingly comfortable teak and leather sling chair with matching ottoman, teak coffee table and two teak end tables with lamps and entryway credenza. Breakfast Bar with two woven wood sitting stools and a 42" round glass bamboo dining table with four matching bamboo-dining chairs with custom cushions. There are area rugs in the living room and in the spare rooms and baths.

This newly remodeled home features open beam ceilings, a great room, a spacious kitchen with dark hardwood cabinets with soft close drawers, granite counter tops, a breakfast bar, and ceramic tile floors. Two large sliding low-e glass doors offer access to the large covered lanai, creating an indoor/outdoor living space. All indoor living spaces have ceiling fans and low-e insulated windows.

The kitchen boasts new stainless appliances including: side by side refrigerator, ceramic top electric range with full size oven, convection microwave, dual deep stainless sinks, garbage disposal, dishwasher, and cold water dispenser. Kitchen amenities include: Keurig K-Cup, 10 cup drip and French press coffee makers, coffee grinder, electric kettle, a full set of Circulon cookware, Kitchen aid knives, Nutri Bullet smoothie maker, blender, four slot toaster, waffle iron, hand mixer, salad spinner, cookie sheets, cupcake/muffin pan, rice cooker, Panini/sandwich toaster, cooking/baking utensils, Pyrex bake/cookware, juicer, colander, party cooler, BBQ Utensils, silverware, daily & entertainment drink ware, serving bowls and dishes.

The lanai is nothing but views and breezes. An electric BBQ, conversation set with brass relief side table and glass top dining table for 4-6 make this the place to be every day of your stay. The Balinese daybed offers an area to relax, read, listen to music or just gaze at the view.

All Bedrooms have new pillow top mattresses, luxury linens, ceiling fans, closets with a large supply of wooden hangers, luggage racks, storage racks and fun tiki futon's for the living room or lanai. The master also has a safe, television and en suite bathroom. The guest bath has a linen closet with extra blankets and daily supplies, such as a hair dryer and clothing steamer. Completely Hypoallergenic.

Technology includes: 55 inch LCD TV (in living room with Bose sound system, cable TV and blue ray DVD player), 32 inch LCD smart TV (in master suite with cable TV), speedy internet access, and land line phone with free local & long distance. Everything is labeled to make getting to know the house faster and easier. There is also a 'Welcome' binder, on the coffee table, which includes all the information you received in the 'Hospitality application' that you downloaded when you booked your vacation with us.

For fun and entertainment we include: DVD’s, games, Hawaiian’ a literature, beach toys, beach towels, a beach blanket, woven beach mats, ice chest, snorkel sets, boogie boards, water noodles, beach chairs and an umbrella.

There is a plethora of flyers for local island attractions, tours, shopping, and discounts waiting for your perusal.

We have a guest laundry area that has a new electric front-loading Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. With wash sink, folding table and a place to line dry beach wear and store beach gear.

The non-refundable VRBO Property Damage insurance policy is required. $89.00 for $5,000 property protection. It eliminates a Security Deposit and makes our transaction & property safe and prevents fraud. It is paid directly to VRBO and covers the duration of your stay. Our staff cleans after each guest departs. We charge for this cleaning and you will see it in your quote ($150.00). It is non-negotiable and we pay this amount directly to our staff. Daily Housekeeping is available for an extra charge.

Our busy lives working in the Silicon Valley Event Production and Surgical fields left little time to enjoy our vacations, so as we started to approach retirement age we wanted to find a home we could enjoy and share for years to come. When a friend says, ”Hey do you want to come stay at my house in Kona, you look like you’re ready for a vacation?”. Do you just get on a plane and hope it’s an O.K. kind of house somewhere near a beach?

It is an Island after all-at some point you’ll get to a beach. Right?

The first time we visited Kona Paradise it went something like that. A friend offered up his Kona Vacation Rental to us for Thanksgiving 2013. We arrived at the airport, got our rental car and stopped as suggested at Costco on the way down. After stocking up on a weeks worth of supplies like coffee, steaks, wine and beer, we headed south. When we saw the Kona Paradise sign, made the right hand turn onto Kaohe Road and started down that winding, breath taking hill, we knew we were in for something beyond special-it was spectacular.

After unloading the car, we found ourselves mesmerized by the most amazing 180° coastal views of the Kona coast. This wasn't just a vacation rental on an island in the pacific - this was a stunningly beautiful oasis that we had all to ourselves for a whole week.

We could hear the ocean raking over the black pebbles on the beach below us. We watched for whales breaching, and dolphins cruising the coastline looking for fun and frolic. We slept among the stars out on the lanai the entire time, and swore that if an opportunity arose we would make this area our home some day. In 2014 we purchased Blue Hawaii. Our dream come true. It brought peace and serenity to our hearts and minds. Took us from our hustle and bustle go-go-go lifestyle on the mainland and brought us back to what was important. Us. Happy and laid back. Loving life. We hope your stay at Blue Hawaii can bring something back into your life that you perhaps have forgotten. Maybe a little rest, relaxation and dare we say...Magic!

Blue Hawaii review.

We had a wonderful adventure on the big Island of Hawaii and Blue Hawaii house served us very well. We had activities all over the island from Pahoa to Waimea. The house was visually spectacular sitting a thousand feet above the coastline with unobstructed views from the beautifully decorated lanai both up and down the south Kona coast. The location allowed us to practically explore south and then back up to Pahoa as well as directly north through Kealakekua and on down to the Kohala coast and up to Waimea and Hapuna beach. It was so nice to be on vacation without having to fight the tourists at home base. We took a fantastic Kayak and snorkeling trip with Kona Boys outfitters across to the Captain Cook monument in Kealakakua Bay and saw multiple dolphin pods swimming right alongside. The snorkeling location was superb with crystal waters and thousands of colorful reef fish. We also took a nightime Manta Ray snorkel with the Sheraton people that was a once in a lifetime experience. No matter what we did, traveling to and from the Blue Hawaii house was never difficult and we were always happy getting back to our beautiful private retreat. This place really had everything we needed. There were few if any issues.

We did a lot of cooking dinners of fresh fish and preparing salads with local organic fruits and veggies. One slight challenge was the lack of enough task lighting in the common areas for food preparation after dark. It was hard to see the fish on the grill for example. We sat around playing games and cards after dinner and it was a little tough to read instructions and game cards around the dinner table or out on the porch after sundown. A few well placed LED's could remedy those situations. We also had a smoke detector that ran low on batteries one night. Not a big deal. Other suggestions might be to place a small chest of drawers in each bedroom for expanded clothes storage.

All in all, the owners are to be congratulated on a 4-star experience. We had a question for Jim one evening and we were able to get him on the phone within a few minutes. Even Ritz-Carleton can't match that level of service. We were sad to leave the property and would return in a heartbeat. An unforgettable trip.

Immaculate house with a great view

My wife and I stayed at Blue Hawaii for a little over a week and it was fantastic. The house is immaculate and has everything you could possibly need for a trip to Hawaii (including snorkels, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels, and a beach umbrella). The view from the deck is breathtaking, and we loved the day bed that they had out there for reading and watching sunsets. The beds and bedding were extremely comfortable, which often isn’t the case at rental houses, and Joni and Jim haven’t cut any corners for their guests.

In terms of beaches, Pebble Beach down the steep hill from the house is fairly rough and not very inviting for swimming. About five miles up the road toward the airport is Hookena Beach, which is sandy and much calmer. One place we wished we had discovered sooner is Honaunau Bay, which offers some of the premier snorkeling on the Big Island. Honaunau Bay truly is world class snorkeling and a great place for beginners with the famous ‘two step’—two smooth rocky steps into the water (it’s almost as easy as getting into a swimming pool). The snorkeling is fantastic all around the two step. Beginners often head to the right and stay within the protected bay, and advanced snorkelers can head out a bit further where there are sea turtles and larger marine life. The turnoff for Honaunau Bay is just a couple miles past Hookena and we found free parking across the street (there is pay lot right by the beach). I would recommend going to Honaunau Bay just about any and every day the surf is reasonably calm (one day there was a swell and the snorkeling wasn’t good). You can grab a sandwich and smoothie on the way back at South Kona fruit stand.

Back to the house, there is almost nothing bad to say about it. It’s exceptionally clean, has three comfortable bedrooms that could easily fit three couples, and everything in the kitchen you could possibly need. We weren’t huge fans of the small electric grill on the porch and think a true gas grill would be preferable, but the owners may have done this for fire hazard reasons (I’m not even sure if gas grills are allowed).

Beautiful View , great accommodations but somewhat remote

The house was spectacular. The furnishings, appliances, general condition and appearance of everything was top of the line and first class. It was surprising to rent a place that looked so great and was so well equipped. The 180 degree ocean view was breath taking. We enjoyed looking at whales by day and stars at night. The only drawback to our visit was the distance to restaurants, bars, grocery stores and Kona. When we went to a restaurant at night in Kona we needed a designated driver. It did make our trip to Volcanoes Nat Park closer than if we stayed in Kona though. All in all it was a great stay. It would be particularly great for a party that wants to get away and just enjoy a very beautiful relaxing vacation.

Perfect spot

We really loved the house. The kitchen had everything and was well organized. The decor was simple and elegant. The beds were very comfortable with nice linens. Ceiling fans kept us cool. The deck was where we spent most of our time. We also walked down the very steep hill to the beach a few times to watch the waves crash at Pebble Beach during a high surf event. The neighborhood was quiet and we had enough privacy even though there are other houses around. The house was super clean - totally spotless.

Relaxing home... away from home!

Our vacation stay at Captain Cook was far more relaxing than we could have ever imagined. Very quiet. You have ALL the amenities of home, and then some. The views are spectacular, with beautiful,surreal sunsets straight out over the lanai. Everything is modern, very clean and up-to-date and even has wifi in case you're feeling detached (easy to do) from the world. Although we didn't find ourselves using it that often.

Sightseeing and snorkeling was very fun. Make sure you go Coffee Tasting while you're there!

Once in a lifetime you stay in a place so incredible you can't possibly communicate nor articulate just how special it is. For just a split second the world stops spinning, each breath you take, transports you future and further away from the stress of home and completely relaxes you. That’s the feeling I felt the moment I walked in. This is definitely a 10/10! We enjoyed watching the whales swim by while sitting on the Lanai, This home has incredible ocean views, is clean, and a must stay if available during your trip. We can’t wait to come back every year.
