About Joni Wiggins & Jim Vastola

Our busy lives working in the Silicon Valley Event Production and Surgical fields left little time to enjoy our vacations, so as we started to approach retirement age we wanted to find a home we could enjoy and share for years to come. So when the opportunity finally presented itself, we jumped on it. We call our little piece of heaven 'Blue Hawaii'. And when you see it you'll know why.

Joni Wiggins & Jim Vastola purchased this house in 2014

Why Joni Wiggins & Jim Vastola chose Captain Cook

When a friend says, ”Hey do you want to come stay at my house in Kona, you look like you’re ready for a vacation?”. Do you just get on a plane and hope it’s an O.K. kind of house somewhere near a beach?

It is an Island after all-at some point you’ll get to a beach. Right?

The first time we visited Kona Paradise it went something like that. A friend offered up his Kona Vacation Rental to us for Thanksgiving 2013. We arrived at the airport, got our rental car and stopped as suggested at Costco on the way down. After stocking up on a weeks worth of supplies like coffee, steaks, wine and beer, we headed south. When we saw the Kona Paradise sign, made the right hand turn onto Kaohe Road and started down that winding, breath taking hill, we knew we were in for something beyond special-it was spectacular.

After unloading the car, we found ourselves mesmerized by the most amazing 180° coastal views of the Kona coast. This wasn't just a vacation rental on an island in the pacific - this was a stunningly beautiful oasis that we had all to ourselves for a whole week.

We could hear the ocean raking over the black pebbles on the beach below us. We watched for whales breaching, and dolphins cruising the coastline looking for fun and frolic. We slept among the stars out on the lanai the entire time, and swore that if an opportunity arose we would make this area our home some day. In 2014 we purchased Blue Hawaii. Our dream come true. It brought peace and serenity to our hearts and minds. Took us from our hustle and bustle go-go-go lifestyle on the mainland and brought us back to what was important. Us. Happy and laid back. Loving life. We hope your stay at Blue Hawaii can bring something back into your life that you perhaps have forgotten. Maybe a little rest, relaxation and dare we say...Magic!

Enjoy!

The Owners

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing time at Blue Hawaii. The sunsets from the lanai are spectacular. We made some great meals (the electric grill works really well!). And we just enjoyed being here- good energy all around. We hope others have similar experiences. Aloha to all.

Labor Day Vacation

We had a fantastic time at Blue Hawaii!!! The beach at the bottom of the hill has the BEST snorkeling of my life and I'm a scuba diver, so I have seen quite a bit of good snorkeling. We even saw a small, white tip reef shark. The beautiful drive to town gave us time to chat about all of our experiences we had and were looking forward to. Check out Kona Boys to rent a kayak or buy a token to take home to remember your visit. With ChoiceMart grocery close by, we never went without the essentials. The home is impeccable and new and that sunset...I must have taken 500 photos every night! The cool breeze was plenty to keep you cool - no need for air conditioning. Close enough to everything but far removed at the same time. We felt like we were in jungle right outside town. The bird watching is very cool - grab the bird book off the shelf and ID the colorful, feathered friends flying by. Keep watch for the goats and wild boars. You can hear them frequently but they are fun to try to find in the brush. Beautiful oasis! Don't give it a second thought. Rent Blue Hawaii and have a relaxing vacation with your family and friends!!!

Amazing Retreat-Fantastic Views and wow what fun!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Blue Hawaii with two other couples and had the most amazing time. The house is beautifully decorated and immaculate. It has everything one could ever need. Large fully supplied kitchen, lots of fridge space and the flotiki rug in the living room had us making rug-angels in it because it is so soft. Even with six people in the house we still had plenty of room to get ready, park, sit and hang out. We must have taken a thousand sunset photos. We watched goats, mongoose, wild boars and played with neighbor's pets. Everyone we encountered was friendly, we were even offered to borrow some sea kayaks from another home owner when we were at the pebble beach one day snorkeling. Saw tiger sharks and eels. What a beautiful place! We were able to experience the peace and tranquility that getting out of the city offers yet still be within an hour if we wanted to go into "town". Coffee tasting was a great pass time. And we were able to do some deep sea fishing in Kona (One of our group caught a Marlin). We'll be back as soon as possible. Just booked December dates. Thank you so much for sharing your aloha with us!

Spectacular Home

  • 5 of 5
We loved this home on the hill. Private, Quiet, Elegant, Peaceful and Relaxing. The home was beautifully decorated and furnished. The kitchen had everything one could imagine and the rooms were very quiet and relaxing. The best is the view of the ocean and the large relaxing lanai. My husband and I had many evenings just taking in the Sunset. Since we were on the island for our son's wedding, we had family over one night for dinner and you know they love the place when they would not go home. We will most certainly come here again if we come back to the Big Island.

Perfect house, great location!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at the "Blue Hawaii". The house is basically new - we were the first renters. Everything was done beautifully with a lot of attention to detail. The house offers all the amenities one could possibly wish for. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful whenever we had questions.
"Blue Hawaii" is on a mountainside uphill from pebble beach, a very nice and quiet beach. We spent many lovely hours hanging out on the deck, enjoying a light breeze. If we get to Hawaii again (hopefully) we will stay here again!
