Overview

Alexandria Bay Cottage Rental Photos and Description

On the St. Lawrence across from Boldt Castle

We are currently re-modeling the entire property. We just finished the inside remodel. Now we are starting on the outside. The on-site in-ground pool will be open to rental guests. The grounds are also being improved with new landscaping and gardens.

The Ledges Resort & Marina offers 6 acres of grounds to enjoy. There are decks, hammocks, and gazebos to relax and watch the river. They are great for ship watching. We have an inground pool where you can cool off from the summer heat. There are outdoor fire-pits where you can warm up at night. There are also plenty of open lawn areas to play catch, lawn games, read a book, or just take a walk. We have dockage available if you bring your own boat or want to rent one locally. All of this is right on the St. Lawrence river with a view of Boldt Castle and Sunken Rock Lighthouse.

This is a private and quiet property, but you are still close to everything. The Harbor House is a three bedroom two bath cottage directly on the river. It is actually a floating house! If you have your own boat or rent one you can tie it up right in front of your living room! There is a deck all the way around the cottage on the lower level. The master bedroom has a balcony with a view of Boldt Castle. It's a great place to fish or just relax and enjoy the river.

Upstairs: The master bedroom has a queen size bed. It has a balcony with a great view of the Boldt Castle and the river. The second bedroom has 2 double beds. There is a bathroom with a stand-up shower.

Downstairs: There is a large entryway. This leads to the downstairs bedroom, bathroom, and living room/kitchen. This bedroom has a double bed. The bathroom has a full tub and shower. The living area is combined with the kitchen. The kitchen features a full size stove/oven, full size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and dishwasher. It has all new cooking utensils, pots, pans, glasses, and dishes. It is fully equipped. There is a dining table with seating for 6. The living room offers a beautiful view of the river. There are french doors that open up to the deck.

Shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are provided. All of the beds are made with fresh linens. There are towels and washcloths are in both bathrooms.

We have other cottages available at The Ledges Resort & Marina. They can be found at www.vrbo.com/588275

With last minute reservations we often offer special rates and discounts. Please ask about any promotions we may have.

We hope you will come enjoy the river with us!

About Nick Schaefer

The Ledges property started with my grandparents Nicholas J Schaefer and his wife Amy. They purchased the property in 1961. They made it their home. In 1963 they built a motel called The Ledges. At one time they also had a german restaurant called The Old World Inn. They closed the restaurant 1982, but continued with the motel. The motel was later run by my parents Jerome and Deborah Schaefer. They expanded into the marina and cottage rental business. In 2013 after 50 years in business we made a decision as a family to take the original motel down. Now the Ledges is again making changes, but staying in the family. It is now a marina and cottage rental resort. It has been taken over by myself and my fiance. I was named after my grandfather, and my fiances name happens to be Amy. So, once again Nick & Amy are your hosts at the Ledges!

What makes this cottage unique

The Ledges Resort & Marina is less than one mile from the center of downtown. This gives great access to all of the local restaurants, shops, and activities. We also have 6 acres of private grounds. This allows us to uniquely offer both access to everything along with privacy.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Ledges was my wife and I's first trip to the Thousand Islands. Staying in the floating chalet was a truly unique experience. The location of the floating house was excellent with views of the castle and lighthouse. If you want easy access to the river it doesn't get any more convenient. We docked our boat right off the back off the house. We plan on coming again this fall with our grandkids and can't wait!

Nice spot

  • 4 of 5

The floating home was exactly as pictured. The location was superb, close enough to everything, but also in a very peaceful location. We very much enjoyed watching the "Salties" and the "Lakers" transiting the St. Lawrence, right in front of our deck. The home was well enough equipped, however the ladies in the group felt it could have been cleaner. they spent an hour or so dusting, and everyone was happy. The furniture was comfortable, the TV satisfactory.

If you have a boat, the location cannot be beat. Tie up right to your deck.

Nick was very friendly, and our deposit was refunded on the spot when we departed.

Not maintained

  • 1 of 5

A recent visit to this property turned anticipation of a relaxing week into one of frustration and disappointment. Upon arriving to the property we found the condition of the chalet to be dirty and quite honestly run down. There are several windows with cracks, secured by scotch tape, and some screens were missing. There are also doors with badly torn screens, repaired with packing tape that is no longer holding and quite honestly, never would have been a proper repair. This meant that the home had tons of mosquitos and bugs flying throughout it.  Located directly on the water, we looked forward to a cool breeze and fresh air, but felt compelled to keep the doors and windows closed to try and minimize the number of bugs we had to deal with. Unfortunately, there are only 2 A/C units, one in the living room and one in the upstairs bedroom. Neither adequetly cools off the entire floor.

The property advertisement boasts that the master bedroom is equipped with a balcony. The ad does not state that the balcony is filthy and caked with bugs, one that I would not ever feel comfortable sitting on.

The kitchen is poorly stocked with basics such as silverware (there are 6 forks in a home advertised to hold 8 guests) and 1 wine glass and 1 beer glass- in a home for 8.

The internet service is poor, making routine work I had hoped to get done very difficult.

The owners were less than responsive to our concerns, blaming the lack of cleanliness and basic maintenance on the fact that there is too little time between rentals to properly clean for the next guests.  I find this excuse to be insulting. As a vacation property owner myself, I realize that if I have a busy season and have the benefit of many tenants, I need to work diligently to assure that the property is clean and inviting and comfortable for every single guest that arrives.  Also, in off season I realize that doing basic maintenance such as power washing and repairing screens and windows is part of the job of being a rental property owner.

I would not advise anyone to rent this property.  The location is fabulous and there is so much potential to turn this into a wonderful vacation spot, but the owners seem less than willing to do that.

Owner's Response: We are sorry you were disappointed with your stay. Since your departure we have pressure washed all of the decks and balconies. The screens and windows are being repaired, and additional AC units are being added. We are also adding additional cooking utensils. The entire property is being completely remodeled and landscaped this fall and winter. We are limited to what we can do during the busy summer season while tenants are in the buildings. It is a work in progress, but we have extensive renovations planned.
