Photos and Description of the Coutances vacation cottage rental
Total Accommodation 4-6 people (unit 1) 2 people plus infant (unit 2)

La Clergerie is set in a pretty butterfly filled valley in the Marais National Park on the Cotentin Peninsular, North-West Normandy, close to the village of Le Mesnilbus, bordered by local farms, close to all amenities, and 20 mins from the sea. Built in 1706, this traditional 'mas et pierre' farmhouse with oak beams and many original features, won awards in 2007, 8 & 9 for its landscaped gardens, with pergolas and ponds and is bordered by a small river. Available as two self-catering rental units, consisting of the major part of the beautifully restored farmhouse, with vaulted ceilings, summer sitting room overlooking the gardens, satellite TV and galleried reading area, and two bedrooms sleeping 4-6 people, both en-suite, with optional third bathroom. Set in the lovely gardens, the adjacent Old Bakery offers further accommodation for two adults and an infant, with access to an outdoor hot tub (optional extra). This romantic setting has proven very attractive with honeymooners.

Rural location close to Normandy beaches. : La Clergerie and the Old Bakery are in a beautiful rural setting, to explore by foot or bicycle, yet it is close to many amenities and activities, including golf courses, horse riding establishments and sailing schools. The region is home to some of the best beaches in North West France. Each accommodation includes guide books and information on sites of interest and activities in the region, including bicycle and walking tours, visits to the D-Day beaches, castles, museums, abbeys and chateaux, and other sites of historical interest such as Bayeaux (the Tapestry museum) and Mont St. Michel. Information on guided tours by local operators on request. The gardens at La Clergerie won first prize for 2007 , 2008 in a competition organised in this locality by the Tourist Board.

Combined holidays: If visiting France from outside Europe, why not combine a stay in Paris with a stay at La Clergerie - soaking up the best of French rural life, its cuisine, culture and setting. If touring Europe, La Clergerie makes an ideal stopping off point to relax and take breath between the cultural delights of Paris and a visit to Britain, with good access to one of the nearby ferry terminals or airports.

Five r Star Ratings for our accommodation.: Recent reviews by guests staying at La Clergerie averaged five stars in a voluntary international review, marking the standard of our facilities, hospitality and environment. We emphasize this in a non-smoking establishment and a full set of the terms and conditions of your rental is given to you on arrival.

At La Clergerie we support the principles of green tourism and recycle everything we can. We water the gardens using natural spring water when possible and do not use pesticides. Our expensive fosse system, which is operated under license from the local authority, ensures that only clean water enters the natural environment. Our prize winning gardens are managed organically and we strive to minimize our carbon footprint.

Each year we receive a number of hand written personal letters, cards and e-mails from our guests commending what we do and copies of these are available on request, together with independent evaluationsof our standards.

My wife and I spent a week in the Old Bakery in early May. We loved the solitude, yet it was an great location for exploring both the north and west coasts of Normandy, the delightful small towns and markets, and of course the WWII historic sites. The setting was idyllic and it was great for a couple, although internet access can be a little iffy. We finally decided to put the computers away and just enjoy the countryside and its great produce, cheeses and fresh seafood that we feasted upon in the bakery. Christine was a very gracious host. Our only complaint is that the time went by so quickly and we wanted more.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words and if you are ever passing this way again there will always be some cheese and wine at the ready. Unfortunately we cannot always guarantee the quality of the Wifi signal in rural France - France has a lot of catching up to do - but we do our best. and we have been promised improvement!

Oodles of Charm in the Normandy Countryside

My husband and I stayed at La Clergerie in the 2-BR unit in the main house. The apartment was perfect for us. It was very clean and every room in the house was beautifully decorated. The best part, though, was the gorgeous garden out back. We had a little terrace where we had our breakfast one fine sunny morning, overlooking a lovingly cared-for spacious yard with beautiful flower beds, a pond and a vegetable garden. We peeked in the windows of the old bakery (it was vacant at the time), which is also available for rent. It looked just as charming as the 2 BR unit we were in. Christine was very accomodating and helpful. Also very discreet. Despite being right next door, we never saw or heard her unless we needed her and then she was most helpful. The property is perfectly located for day trips to the D-Day beaches, Mont St. Michel, Bayeux and various other attractions. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful setting, this is the place. It is not within walking distance of restaurants, bars and shopping, but the tranquility of the rural French countryside was wonderful and made for good sleeping after a busy day.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind thoughts. We loved having you and so pleased you enjoyed the gardens and tranquility so much. We have met so many lovely people from North America and long may it be so.

We had a wonderful week in The Old Bakery. The location is perfect; beautiful farmland, great views pastoral scenes and lovely gardens. It is incredibly peaceful but only a short drive from the coast and busier centres and restaurants etc. It is ideally located for visiting the WW2 sites as well, and we went to Mont St Michel in the other direction on another day. The Old Bakery is beautifully appointed and perfect for 2 people; the photos depict it very accurately. La Clergerie would be perfect for a family and is also lovely. Finally, Christine was very kind, hospitable and helpful! We highly recommend staying here.
