The Marais National Park, is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, famous for its sea food and cheeses. La Clergerie is 8km east of the pretty market town of Coutances, with an International Jazz Festival in May, music festivals in July and where many international artists choose to exhibit their work. To the west ,short drive away, is the pretty family resort of Agon-Coutainvlle. A fast drive south takes you to the cosmopolitan resort of Granville, the holy island of Mont St. Michel and the walled-port of St. Malo. Immediate south is the fortified town of St.Lo and the Vire Valley with abbeys, chateaux and castles to explore. Nearby Falaise was the home of William the Conqueror. The town of Bayeax guards the ancient tapestry depicting his defeat of the English at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. To the East are the famous D-Day landing beaches and museums, including the Peace Memorial Exhibition at Caen and the beautiful US military cemetery at Collville-sur-Mer.
