Grand Lake House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom, 4 Bath Home On Shadow Mountain Lake

Clean lines, warm wood, open spaces, comfortable furnishings and perfect proportion soothe the spirit in this house designed by an Interior Designer as a get away for her own family. The comfortable great room overlooks the lake and mountains through a window wall proportioned according to the Golden Mean. Enjoy the vintage stereo equipment streaming your favorite music through wall and ceiling mounted speakers. Bond with friends and family while preparing meals in the gourmet kitchen which effortlessly accommodates multiple cooks and has seating for 5 at the island counter. Build a fire and roast marshmallows or make s'mores in the super efficient Rumford Masonry Fireplace which is quite literally the heart of the house. Head downstairs to watch TV, movies, and sports on the brand new large screen TV with surround sound.

Outside, gather on the dock to read, fish, or launch your favorite boat from 2 of 3 slips. The lake is great for fishing, boating, water sports (bring a wet suit!), bird watching, wildlife viewing, lounging and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Never get in your car; take your boat into town and tie up at the town dock for lunch, ice cream, or shopping. Cross country ski on the lake in winter, or drill a hole in the ice and catch a fish!

The house a private bedroom and bathroom on each level, perfect for 3 couples or 2 families with kids. The location is close to everything: Rocky Mountain National Park west entrance - 1 mile, Grand Lake Village center - 1 mile, Grand Lake golf course - 2 miles.

About Kathryn Foster

Howard and I were born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and both of us, coincidentally, moved north at the age of 14; Howard to Colorado and I to Minnesota. We did our graduate work at the University of Colorado and have lived in Boulder ever since. Though we love the mountains and Colorado, we missed the water; so we began looking for a place where we could have both. We fell in love with Grand Lake instantly, purchased our land in 1992, began construction in 2001, and moved into our dream vacation home at the end of 2002. Our 3 daughters have grown up here and love to come back to this special place.

Kathryn Foster purchased this house in 2002

Why Kathryn Foster chose Grand Lake

Having grown up on the ocean we missed the water. We began searching for lake front property close to Boulder and a lake large enough for sailing, water skiing, and other boating activities as well as a boating community. Finally, we wanted a town that had history and was authentic. Grand Lake is Colorado's largest and deepest natural lake. Shadow Mountain Lake, though technically a reservoir, is connected to Grand Lake via a canal and kept at a constant level so for all practical purposes it is a lake. We liked the fact that there's a yacht club, two marinas, several good restaurants, and a charming village center. The proximity of Rocky Mountain National Park with its spectacular mountains and wildlife are an incredible bonus.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the view of Baldy framed by bluffs. We liked the south east exposure, proximity to town, and year round accessibility. And we wanted to be on Shadow Mountain Lake rather than Grand Lake because it has less boat traffic and it's eastern shore can never be developed because it is in the National Park.

Beautiful cozy winter escape!

  • 5 of 5

If you enjoy sitting by the fireplace with a hot drink, watching the snow fall over the lake & mountains, playing games while listening to music on surround sound, cooking in a gorgeous well-equipped kitchen, sleeping like a baby in big comfortable beds, and having easy access to the national park, snowshoeing, downhill or cross-country skiing, and the adorable town of Grand Lake - then this rental is for you! If you don't enjoy any of those things, you will still have an amazing time in this gorgeous cabin because it would be impossible not to. It's a pretty easy drive from Denver/DIA, but once you arrive it feels like you're worlds away. Thank you to our hosts for opening your beautiful home!

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

This has been one of my favorite homes to stay in through VRBO. The home itself is unbelievable but the location is also amazing. The home sits right on the water and the views are gorgeous. The house was very clean, stocked and ready to go for a long girls weekend. It was the perfect place to cozy up, make a fire, cook and just hangout. We even went snowshoeing over the lake for a little adventure. The house had everything we needed. We definitely did not want to leave at the end of the weekend. I would highly recommend this house during the winter. It is perfect.

Amazing winter getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I loved our stay! We rented for a girls weekend and it was absolutely perfect. The views are incredible to start with an entire wall of windows overlooking Grand Lake. It was a very snowy weekend and it was so cozy to relax at the house and take in the beautiful views of the lake/mountains. We also snowshoed around the lake to stretch our legs a bit, which was a blast! The kitchen/dining area were perfect for our larger group. There was plenty of space to cook together and enjoy a meal together. The other amenities were fantastic - wonderful bedrooms, steam shower, grill, games, fireplace, etc. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! This home is full of charm and I highly recommend it for a winter getaway!

Even Better in the Winter!

  • 5 of 5

This place is unbelievable!

First, the view, people. WHOA! I loved waking up in the morning to the lake and mountains. We went here in the summer and had an incredible time but I actually liked it even more in the winter! The place was so peaceful and relaxing - full of games, a completely stocked kitchen with all the spices and appliances you ever could need and the grill is on the balcony so we even grilled one night. There so many places good for lounging and the table is huge - perfect for games and dinner at the same time :) Also, two words: Steam Shower.

I want to live here forever, please.

Perfect home for multi-generational bonding

  • 5 of 5

Start with the home being gorgeous -- professionally decorated with local art treasures. Gourmet kitchen with every conceivable item you might need to feed a small army....we had 9 of us! Dock at the front door allowed our younger children to fish at 5:30 a.m. while most of us continued sleeping. Board games played at the expanded dining table and puzzles worked on the large coffee table occupied our at home evenings. Comfortable beds, well thought out bathrooms. If there were more stars, our family would give it more of them.

Beautiful home, great trip!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a perfect weekend up at grand lake, there were 7 women total for our annual girlfriends get-away. There was plenty of room for all of us, and the house was set up well for some to rest when others didn't want to. The house is gorgeous, and had all the items we needed for making every meal there and having cocktails on the deck. Misha, the housekeeper, met us upon our arrival and was so helpful and enjoyable to talk with. Being right on the water with the private dock was so relaxing and enjoyable. We loved our trip and would definitely stay here again.
