Entertainment:
There's plenty of entertainment for kids and adults alike. The apartment is a short walk down to the beach, the plaza (square) with bars, restaurants, supermarkets and banks. Within 15 minutes drive there is an Aqua park; the largest Zoo on the Costa del Sol; a racecourse that also holds live concerts; go-karting, Tivoli Amusement Park and a Sealife centre in Benalmadena. For beach lovers, from Calahonda the fine sandy beaches stretch to Cabopino and then you can walk along the beach all the way to Marbella, passing the Artola dunes, a protected national park, with its restored Moorish lookout tower. If you fancy an all over tan then you will find a nudist beach here. Puerto Cabopino is surrounded by wide, fine sandy beaches where there are chiringitos (beach bars and restaurants). For golf lovers, La Siesta golf course is within walking distance from the apartment and there are others within 5 mins drive.
Shopping:
There are several large supermarkets within walking distance, a pharmacy and a bank.
If shopping is your particular passion, then La Cañada shopping centre is only 10 minutes drive away. It has all the popular shops and a hypermarket (Alcampo). Alternatively head a little further west to Puerto Banus where you can buy all your designer wear and there is an El Corte Ingles store (similar to John Lewis). If you head 10 minutes east from the apartment then Fuengirola also has another Corte Inglés and a big shopping centre with a cinema complex showing English films in Parque Myramar. Fuengirola also boasts the biggest street Market on the Costa del Sol.
Places to Visit:
The African coastline is often visible from one of the highest points in Calahonda. There is a good local bus service providing easy access to neighbouring resorts. If you fancy a peek at how the rich and famous spend their spare time, pop along the coast to Marbella, 10 minutes drive west of Calahonda. Ogle the multi-million pound yachts in Puerto Banus and celebrity spot from one of the glitzy bars and restaurants which line the quayside. Algeciras, where you can take the ferry over to Tangier, is only 40 kilometres west along the coast. Visit the hotly disputed rock of Gibraltar. Sample the sherries of Jerez or marvel at the wonders of Granada’s Alhambra Palace or go skiing for the day in one of the best resorts in Europe, Sierra Nevada. Alternatively explore picturesque villages such as Mijas or Ronda with the oldest bullring in Spain.
