Guestbook comments from the owner

The home was located in a nice, quiet, gated community. It was clean and fit everyone comfortably; there were 3 couples who went and we all had our own space. There were board games, a Foosball table and an X-Box with games and movies; so if the weather is bad, there are things to do at the house which was a very nice option. The owner of the house responded very quickly to any questions I had via e-mail and phone calls. I would suggest this home to my friends and family. Highly considering renting again!

Enjoyable New Year's getaway to visit nearby friends

  • 4 of 5

We usually plan a multi-family trip to the Tobyhanna area to visit friends with a cabin nearby. Our family of four stayed 3 nights, another family of four stayed 2 nights and a mother/son stayed one night in this clean home, which is exactly as detailed in the photos and in the amenities section of the listing.

The 8 of us were comfortable in the two bedrooms and the loft but the mother/son group who pulled out the bed of the living room couch said it was too uncomfortable to sleep on (the bars hitting her back - and she's a very petite woman). However, she and her son slept on the couches themselves for one night and said that she was comfortable enough for one night. Bed linens and towels are average quality and there were plenty of new pillows around, as well, that we didn't need as many in our group brought their own. We also brought many of our own towels, but it looked like there was probably a sufficient quantity for our needs.

We didn't visit the community amenities so I can't speak to those, nor did we use any of the electronics offered at the house but everything listed was present. We weren't at the house very much and we only needed the wifi for entertainment. Foosball table was enjoyed as well, but be careful if you have to move it - the table needs to be more securely attached to the legs.

We mostly used the home for sleeping, showering and having breakfast in the morning before leaving for our friend's home where we spent the bulk of our time. Cooking supplies are as listed and appliances are in mostly new condition. We had a little trouble with the hot water heater because my daughter turned the hot water on full blast during her shower, but after an hour there was enough hot water for 3 more showers, as long as we only turned the hot water on about 1/3 of the way, which provided plenty of hot water and water pressure for us. It was about 14 degrees F outside and the water felt just about 33 degrees F so cold showers were not an option.

We are frequent vacation home renters via VRBO, FlipKey, HomeAway, etc. and have learned a few tricks along the way. Generally, a small amount of supplies are given to get you started and you should always bring extra toilet paper, paper towels, bath towels, automatic dishwashing detergent, dish soap, body soap, baggies, foil and trash can liners.

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

I am sorry to say that we were disappointed. The owners were very nice and the house was very clean. Unfortunately, there were some things that were not so good. We could never connect to WIFI. There is a television on the second floor, and it can be used to play Xbox or watch videos, but cannot watch TV. No cable. The way the site is shown on the VRBO website, it looks like the lake is right below the property, that is not the case, you would have to drive to the lake , which did not look so good, I would not swim there. We still had a nice time because we make our own fun, but I would not go back.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, Perhaps there has been a misunderstanding. Although both Lake Dressler and Carobeth Lake are only a short 5 minute ride away, at no point do we promote the home as a lakefront property. You and I discussed this point well before your stay. In addition, cable TV was never included as part of the listing, nor was it included in the document I sent you before your stay listing the items/services included in your rental. Therefore, I'm not sure why your party thought there would be cable service provided upon arrival. Finally, while you might have experienced some challenges with the Wi-fi, we have since resolved the issue directly with the service provider, Verizon. Thanks again for your business.

OK home; not a great location

  • 3 of 5

Our family of four was travelling from Washington, D.C. back home to Massachusetts and was looking for a midway point to break up the trip. We decided on the Poconos because of the opportunities to spend time in nature after a lot of city time on the trip. This house seemed to offer what we needed. The photos of the home are accurate as is the description but read it carefully. The photo you see of the exterior is the back of the house and must have been taken practically in the woods as there is no yard to speak of. The owner was very helpful in responding to emails and answering questions. The snacks were a nice touch! The house was clean although the downstairs shower was a little tricky to operate. The cold water faucet was difficult to turn off. The home is attractively furnished but the kitchen contained very basic supplies. We have rented many properties from VRBO, most of which were well stocked. This property came with one roll of toilet paper per bathroom. We needed to purchase more for the time of our stay as well as dish washing detergent. The beds were fairly comfortable. There is no air conditioning but fans were provided. The windows upstairs had no screens so could not be opened. It was pretty stuffy up there.

Maybe I should have done more research about the location of this home. It is part of a huge complex (Google "A Pocono Country Place"), which I realized only upon arrival. Before making our way to the home (which is part of a "gated community") we had to go to the Welcome Center to check in. We arrived at night after travelling several hours from Washington D.C. The scene at the Welcome Center was sketchy at best. When we finally arrived at the home I did a little research and discovered that there had been issues with drugs and gangs in the complex. I never would have made a reservation here if I had known that beforehand. Although nothing happened while we were there that I am aware of, my husband and I were a bit on edge the whole weekend.

It's about a 20 minute drive to the nearest grocery store. We did not eat at any restaurants in the area so I have no recommendations in that regard. We did spend a fun time at Camelback Mountain Adventures followed by some time at Dingmans Falls at the Delaware Water Gap. I think we should have stayed somewhere closer to those attractions. Although the owner was responsive and the property clean, I would not stay there again.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. Please note that the crime rates at A Pocono Country Place are well below the national average. Furthermore, I myself have two small children and have never had a negative experience when we stay at the property. We also have had many tenants stay with their families and have no reported issues as well. On the contrary, the community has many family-friendly activities they offer for free such as yoga, swimming lessons, tai-chi, bingo, Zumba, game nights, etc. For added safety, there is also 24-hour surveillance by the community's security team, which you can see regularly patrolling the area. The negative experience of a few persons years ago should not cast a shadow on what is a very nice community today. Hope this helps.

Pristine Pocket of Peace

  • 5 of 5

With the back of the house facing game land and the front of the house facing other houses, you can't help but feel like you're at the edge of eternity, as if the wild was placed there for your enjoyment.

The decor is comfortable and relaxing. Kitchen is fully stocked and well labeled, quickly making me feel like I'm in my own kitchen. The house may appear small on the outside but the layout is open and spacious, making you feel free yet protected. The second level is a little more intimate, making you feel like you're in the VIP section of a loft. The closet was loaded with fun board games, which was a pleasant addition to my stay.

Everything was fully functional and immaculate. I will definitely be returning and intend on recommending this place to all of my friends and family.
