We are about 2 blocks from oceanfront (900’). It’s a pretty easy walk and we have a cart that you can use to wheel stuff to the beach. We’re also about 2 blocks from the Currituck sound in the opposite direction. The shopping area at Corolla Light is accessible via walking trails and is about a third of a mile (that’s an estimate). The shopping center has a skate park, bakery, multiple restaurants, ice cream and candy store, clothing and gift stores. The Currituck light house (http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/) , historic Whalehead Hunt Club (http://www.outerbanks.com/whalehead-club.html) , and marine nature center (https://www.visitwhalehead.com/historic-corolla/outer-banks-center-for-wildlife-education/) are across the street from the shopping center. There is a Food Lion 2 miles away – many more restaurants and stores are in that shopping center. There is a very nice shopping center, Timbuktu (http://timbuckii.com/), across from the Food Lion. A couple of miles to the north, the road ends and there is a nature walk where you can see the wild horses (http://www.corollawildhorses.com/).
The northern beaches (like Corolla) are less crowded than those to the south (Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, etc). And while there are plenty of restaurants and stores, we are much less commercial and more family friendly than the southern beaches.

About Keith Coates
We grew up in Virginia and began coming to the Outer Bank as kids - at least 40 years ago. We have come back every year, at least once each year. We discovered Corolla and the Whalehead Beach neighborhood 15 years ago when our kids were young, and haven't stayed anywhere else since then. Corolla is less commercial, less crowded, and more family friendly than most of the beaches to the south.
Keith Coates purchased this house in 2013
Why Keith Coates chose Corolla
We fell in love with this house. It needed some TLC when we purchased it in October of 2013. You will love the big spaces, inside and out. The 4 master bedrooms with king size beds and private baths are perfect when you need some private time in the midst of a fun filled vacation. The pool deck is absolutely huge. We couldn't believe it has a separate kiddie pool in addition to the large pool! Plus volleyball, basketball, a swingset. Wow, this house has it all!
What makes this house unique
You'll love the privacy you'll get at Whale of Fortune. The house sits on a large lot that is separated from neighbors by trees and shrubs. You won't find many houses that have enough dining seating for as many people that can sleep there. Not only can you seat 19 in the eating area of the greatroom - you could invite guests! But you don't have to have everyone upstairs. The gameroom on the first floor has it's own kitchenette with fridge, microwave, dishwasher, sink, and cabinets. Send the teenagers down there! They can watch 46' flat screen TV while having their meals. Or they can play pool. Or foosball. Or air hockey. You CANNOT get bored at this house!
