Duncan House Rental Photos and Description
3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6
The ideal retreat space for serenity-seeking writers, artists, yogis, families, wine tourists. Large enough for serious entertaining or for housing big groups. Floor to ceiling windows, giant kitchen, heated floors, oh my... An absolute bargain!
A modern, minimalist home away from home, our space offers an absolutely unique setting for entertaining, meditating, cooking, writing, breathing in sweet serenity. The home is uncluttered, but is fully equipped with every modern construction detail. Built in 2009 with our own hands using Passive House techniques, the house boasts double thick walls, in-floor radiant heat, triple-pane floor-to-ceiling windows and an HRV. Views of Cowichan Bay estuary, Mount Tzouhalem and a neighboring orchard and forest.
On the inside, guests have full access to 1 large, fully equipped kitchen plus 1 smaller kitchen with 1/2 size fridge and without oven. 3 bathrooms: each with bathtub, sink, toilet. 3 bedrooms: each with queen size bed and clothing storage. The lower, rear bedroom is 400 sq ft...meaning loads of room for yoga, qigong, tai chi.
On the outside, guests have access to a large front field, a barbecue, and parking for 2 vehicles.
Off limits is the first-floor entryway and parking area rented by our quiet, wonderful tenant. (Bottom, leftmost entry pictured in this listing's main photo.)
In a word, Cowichan Bay is quaint. A float-home village nestled into an area of mountains, wineries, local agriculture. The first Cittaslow town in North America, Cowichan Bay is ground zero for the 100-mile (or much less) diet boasting the immensely popular True Grains Bakery and Hilary's Cheese Shop, as well as multiple Zagat rated restaurants.
Located 10 minutes drive from the town of Duncan (home to the largest First Nations population in BC), the area is widely known for its local arts and artisan community. Ferry routes and further culture abound with Victoria just 45 minutes south and Nanaimo just 45 minutes north. Floatplanes to the surrounding Gulf Islands (Salt Spring and beyond) also depart daily from both Cowichan Bay and nearby Maple Bay.
Our area is a gem. Come see why!
Public bus stop to local area less than a 2 minute walk. Buses to all points on Vancouver Island from Duncan. Seaplane service from Cowichan Bay and Maple Bay. Main ferries (connecting to Vancouver area, Seattle, Gulf Islands) in Nanaimo and Victoria, with additional ferry to Salt Spring Island in Crofton.
The space allows for serenity, meaning that it is clutter free. There is no telephone, but WiFi internet and 2 large, good TVs with Netflix, plug-ins for your laptop and DVD players are included. Because of the configuration, extra white walls, polished concrete floors and clear fir stairs, many guests may find that bringing very young children may not be the most stress-free decision.
The home is great for entertaining...meaning: dinner parties, book launches, engagement parties, yoga teacher training, violin concerto functions. But not bachelor parties, rock concerts, family reunions with many toddlers, etc.
A small, truly lap-happy doggy or happy-travelling cat may be considered.
