Overview

Cranberry Isles Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Five Bedroom, two full baths, gorgeous views, lots of room to rest and relax

House sits on 2 acres above the water, on a unique island that offers a very special kind of vacation. Hikers, boaters, cooks, readers, game players will all love this very happy house. Renovated in 2008, there is a really nice Gourmet kitchen stocked with every piece of equipment you might need, Living Room with fireplace, pretty music/sitting room, dining room with Franklin Stove, large outdoor deck and swing on the porch, all make up the first floor plan. The outside features lovely trees, mature gardens, and a pretty path that leads down to the water. The multi level deck allows for sun bathing or outdoor dining. There is lots of outdoor furniture and a round Wetherend dining table that seats 8. The second floor has three double queen size bedrooms, and two singles with a fabulous bath looking at Acadia National Park. The property also has a charming bunkhouse that sleeps 4. There are bikes to borrow, a grill. There are lots of events that happen all throughout the summer on the Island. Local artists are painting, showing their art, the Dock restaurant has music featured during the week, and it is part of the rhythm to take the mail boat over to Mount Desert to visit Southwest and Northeast Harbor.

Now some information about the island: Islesford is a small hamlet located on Little Cranberry Island in Hancock County, Maine, United States. It is one of the five islands of the town of Cranberry Isles, Maine. It lies in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Mount Desert Island, which is home to Acadia National Park.

Travelers can reach the island village via the Beal and Bunker mail boat & ferry service that runs from the village of Northeast Harbor in the town of Mount Desert, Maine; the Cranberry Cove Boating ferry service from Southwest Harbor and Manset; and during the summer on various water taxis including 'Cadillac Water Taxi', and 'Delight,' both leaving from various harbors.

The island also hosts several seasonal cultural venues including the Islesford Dock Gallery and Restaurant, Islesford Artists Fine Art Gallery, The Islesford Congregational Church, (housing the famed 'Sea Glass Windows' by artist, Ashley Bryan), and the Islesford Historical Museum, which is part of Acadia National Park. In 1980, the museum was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Islesford is on Little Cranberry Island, one of five islands that comprise the Town of Cranberry Isles. In 2013 the year round population was about sixty-five. Islesford is home to the town's two-room public school, 'The Ashley Bryan School'. The school is the first Maine public school to be named, in 2011, for a Visual Artist as well as an African-American. In 2013 the school had 12 students grades K - 8th grade, with two full time teachers. The Ashley Bryan School is one of six one and two-room island schools that make up the inter-island, 'Outer Island Teaching and Learning Collaborative'. This collaboration allows for remote 'live' teaching and learning among schools and students on Matinicus Island, Monhegan Island, Isle au Haut, Cliff Island, Frenchboro, and The Ashley Bryan School in the Cranberry Islands.

About Connie Carter

My late wife had this house in her family since 1969, so a vital part of her childhood. After we married in 1983, we brought our own children here, and fell in love with the summer lifestyle of outdoor games, biking around the island, gardening, reading and enjoying sailing trips, boat picnics and big hikes on Acadia National Park.

We had a chance to buy the house from her family, and in we then renovated the house adding a new roof, new kitchen and modernized the bunk house and new deck. Now the house is for sale, so there is a chance it will be shown during your stay; or perhaps you will find it becomes your special place too!!

Connie Carter purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Connie Carter chose Cranberry Isles

It was and is such a special place for my family and later to me. The people who live and summer there are from all over the world, yet want to come to here. We love sharing it with others, as Islesford is so unique as a summer destination.

What makes this cottage unique

Small island living is a conscious choice to disconnect, regroup, enjoy your thoughts, books, your friends and family. It is a restful venue like no other. The view is unparalleled, you can stare at the sky, mountains and water all day long. The fireplace and Franklin stove make it very cozy on chilly days, the deck and swing on the porch make it divine when the weather is warm. It is fun to cook, garden, read, play games, or cross over to hike for the day in Acadia National Park. Yet all the creature comforts are here, so the chance to rest, rejuvenate while in lovely surroundings is what makes this house so special and unique.

Family Fun in Islesford

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed a fabulous week in this lovely home on Islesford and hope to return!
This comfortable house is beautifully decorated with every amenity you'd need. We enjoyed hours of family time playing games in the evening in the cozy family room, sitting on the deck taking in spectacular views, watching the hummingbirds, walking along the rock beach and biking and hiking all over the island - it is a perfect place to unplug and recharge.
Our young boys (11, 9 & 6) were excited by the bunk house, it was a special place for them to play board games, read and hang out together. They loved the freedom of biking, hiking, exploring, and playing at the school playground, always stopping to find wild blueberries and raspberries along the way.
It was thrilling to buy fresh lobster right from the dock and enjoy them for dinner that very evening, we also enjoyed several meals at the Islesford Dock restaurant. The mailboat ferry is a fun and convenient way to travel to Mount Dessert Island.
We highly recommend this rental property!
