Comfortable and relaxing, this beach cottage is the perfect home for family vacations, girls trips and romantic getaways. With its coastal setting and location, we believe you will never forget the time you spent here at The Boxwood House. Nestled between forested hills and the beautiful Northern California coastline lies the town of Half Moon Bay. Starting as an agricultural hub for the Bay Area, this coastal hamlet remains well known for its farming roots. On the drive in you can expect to see fields of flowers, and depending on the season you can find rows of Christmas trees and pumpkin patches, or see the waves of professional and amateur surfers driving into town for the legendary Mavericks surfing events off the coast of Pillar Point, a five minute drive from the house.

We had such a wonderful, restful vacation here with our family. We were greeted by Joseph, who was so kind and friendly. The house was warmly lit, candles going and music playing - it was like literally stepping into vacation. The kids were presented with fun sand pails personalized with their names and filled with fun goodies. The play house was a huge hit and I admired the care and design put into the playhouse! The house was AMAZING! Straight out of a magazine, detail to every detail, chocolate cake and wine left for us plus some extras in the frig. I spent a lot of time admiring every detail and taking lots of inspiration pictures. The shower in the master was great too - excellent water pressure and cool rainfall faucet. Everything in this house was decorated with such thorough detail and so elegant and beautiful. I can't wait to come back - hopefully we can turn it into an annual (at least) tradition.
As Forest Gump's mother taught him "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get." This is a perfect description of rental homes.
We've rented houses up and down the East coast (Kiawah and LBI) and as far West as Maui (Kapalua and Wailea). They were all gorgeous and I always thought how if it were my home how I might design things differently; Not with yours.
To compare your boxwood beach home to those would be unfair. They are 2D houses whereas yours was a 3D home. Your place has an added dimension of love and care and every detail really shines. It's such unique and special place. I can't compliment you enough on how beautiful it is. By the way I would love to know where I could get those window treatments (please!) and your taste in furniture is amazing. I need your talent in my life. In fact you've inspired me so much I've been touching up areas in our home ever since we got back. I bought some orchids and baskets today. My children immediately asked if I was copying the boxwood house to which I said "yes!".
The moment we were greeted by friendly Joseph I thought wow. The care he took in staging the house for our arrival was evident. The candles were lit, the beautiful chandeliers warmly illuminated the gorgeous and tasteful decor and I felt as if I were being welcomed in to the big reveal of a home makeover.
While I was drooling over your designs and all the fresh flowers my children were running around with the biggest smiles on their little faces. First they saw the delicious chocolate cake, muffins and fruit displayed for them. Next they felt special because the fridge was stocked with organic milk and juices. Off to their rooms they ran after that. The boys loved the personalized toy basket that was prepared for them and my little girl was in wonderment. How was there a special girl room just for her - complete with perfumes? Finally they discovered the "s'mores pit" and playhouse all inside a perfectly landscaped and fenced in yard.
I could not have dreamt up a more beautiful place for us to have introduced our children to the Half Moon Bay/San Francisco area in.
Thank you for providing a home like yours to us. I felt like a guest at my best friends house and not a renter. I can not wait to go back to visit your city home next time.
My husband and my 4 year old and I stayed here for a 5 day business trip. We didn't want to stay in San Fran which is where the business part of our trip took place, and we wanted a more "vacation like" setting. The drive was a short 35 minutes and we were mesmerized by the beauty of the area and the home was EXTREMELY well appointed and decorated beautifully. We were greeted with a cake ( and fancy cupcake for our daughter) and fresh flowers throughout the home. The owners of this home clearly spared no expense in making it a luxurious retreat for their guests. Thank you to the owners!!! So, if you're thinking of renting this quaint cottage do you self a favor and book an extra few days!!!
This house is a very beautiful house that i never seen it before, all of the facility looks the same description as the picture. my family feel very relax in this house. we can use any kitchen to cook the tasty food. after the beautiful house there is a very big back yard, we enjoied eating the breakfast every day in the yard. there is also have a very mini house that used to children play! high recommend the family with chidren live this house!!
thanks Joseph help us so many times, he also provide the very delicious cake and red wine, fruits to entertain us.
if we have any chance travel to San Francisco/HMB we will choose living this house definitely.
I travelled with my fiancé, daughter and my new in-laws. We were married during this trip and the owners graciously gave us a card and wine to celebrate. They also gave my daughter a lovely present to enjoy in her perfectly decorated room. A cake and pastries were supplied and after a harried long flight we appreciated the special touch. Every room is like a museum. Supplied with books and pictures and comfort. The house smelled of eucalyptus and I loved the French jazzy music supplied. The house is very meticulously decorated and the theme flowed thoughout the house. Rich thread counts and comfortable beds enveloped us. The house is stocked with everything we needed. Bring clothes and groceries and you are set. It was truly touching to have gifts and food awaiting us . Something a family member would have done. Joseph the manager, is an absolute asset. He was friendly and happy and gave us suggestions to fantastic restaurants. I needed a wedding bouquet and he suggested florists locally. We texted him and he would text back immediately. He's the kind of guy we would love to sit by the fire and tell stories with. Very approachable and knowledgeable. Whether you are travelling with family or you need to get away to rest or honeymoon this is the place to go. We are coming back. This is so close to San Francisco but yet far enough to be out of the city life. I loved being there and I will be back.!!
Fantastic home and just as advertised! Joseph was fantastic and was always available to answer any questions we had or to make recommendations. The owners were accommodating and very thoughtful. They have excellent taste and we felt very comfortable in the home even after a month-long stay. They've really thought of everything. We would be happy to stay with them again and this home is highly recommended.
