West Shokan House Rental Photos and Description
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath On 18 Acres With Mountain Views And Stream
This is a very unique secluded sun-filled artist's house on 18 private acres a little less than 2 hours from NYC and 15 minutes from Woodstock. It has 2 very large bedrooms, 1 bath, a humongous great room, and sprawling deck from which to enjoy the splendid uninterrupted views of the Catskill Mountains. There are no visible neighbors. A crystal clear pristine private mountain stream with a swimming hole is a quick but steep hike from the house. You'll want to split your time between feasting your eyes on the majestic view from the deck and lying on one of the huge rocks that jut out into the stream, listening to its calming natural music.
The house was originally built by a marble sculptor (my father) to be his studio. The rooms are huge and sunny, echoing the beautiful space outside. Wilson State Park is just 2 miles away, offering canoeing and kayaking. Both Bellayre and Hunter Ski Resorts are just about a 30 minutes drive.
The layout of the house is very open and flows from room to room, so it is best for a family since you have to walk through one bedroom to get to the other. It is a post and beam structure, constructed with local lumber. It has a very rustic feel and is eclectic in its styling.
There is a fun jungle gym in the yard for the little energetic ones.
You will love the seclusion and astounding beauty of the private views. If you are looking for a place to unwind and relax, this is most definitely it, with the added benefit of award-winning restaurants and tons of fun things to do within minutes.

About Amoreena O'Bryon
I spent a lot of my childhood in this house and I think it's very special. I am currently a Creative Director for an advertising agency in Saratoga Springs, NY. My husband and I live there with our 2 children. We love Saratoga Springs but we miss the Woodstock house!
Amoreena O'Bryon purchased this house in 1971
Why Amoreena O'Bryon chose West Shokan
This is a one-of-a-kind place. It is so rare to find a view as beautiful as the one seen from this property. The stream is also one of my very favorite places on earth.
What makes this house unique
The view, the stream, the sunniness and openness of the house make for a combination that is very hard to find. If you love nature and getting away from it all for a bit you will love this house and this spot.
