About Owner / Manager
We have always lived around golf as our livelihood, while Adeline's personal endeavor has been assisting people with special needs. She is a certified caregiver and has extensive training in health and psychology.
Doug, who enjoyed many sports, has made his career as a golf professional in all areas of the golf industry. His ability to vary his approach in teaching golf to suit the individual has made him a successful teacher for beginners and aspiring professionals. He has a keen eye for personal needs and keeps the focus on the enjoyment of the game.
'Golf is Us' is an endearment we have earned together. Adeline was an active caddy for Doug while he played the senior PGA tour. Adeline passionately engages in the sport as a spectator, always happy following the USA PGA events with Doug. At home she loves to read, hike or knit at the Friday Night Knitter's club on Saltspring Island. Visitors are welcome to join in while they are here. She has enough needles and yarn to share with guests!
Both Adeline and Doug love to hear Fish Tales, Golf Tales, or Ferry Tales. There are three ferry docks on Saltspring and BC Ferries transports you to and from the Mainland or to Vancouver Island. Day trips are possible and leaves time to gather around the fire pit in the front garden (due to fire regulations,Spring and Fall only), or to join in the live music at restaurants near the boardwalk on the Gulf.
Come visit; you are likely to meet new friends while touring the Studio Artist Tours, the Saturday Market, wine tasting, kayaking, book browsing or knitting ... and so much more!
Guestbook comments from the owner
...for our 2 night stay on Salt Spring Island. Doug and Addie's listing didn't have any reviews and it seemed somewhat strange that a very convenient location still had unbooked nights so close to a long weekend what with me leaving our trip's accommodation until way too late. Well, sometimes the unexpected turns out to be a wonderful surprise. Doug (unfortunately we didn't meet Addie as she had to leave before we got there for a family emergency) met us on our arrival and immediately made us feel at home. He showed us around the place, gave us pointers where things needed explaining, and then left us to get settled in. We (myself, my wife and two children) had the main and top floors to ourselves. I'm not exaggerating when I say that for the time we were there we felt as if we owned this hidden treasure of a country retreat. Doug and Addie have made this house feel special and inviting, both through the interior decor as well as the exterior layout of the yard. I won't reiterate the details of the listing here since they are clearly spelled out, but will say that this house is no more than 3 minutes to Ganges by car (really, it's a very reasonable walking distance), and conveniently close to Mt. Maxwell and Bedis Beach (the water was cold, but it didn't stop me and the kids from going for a dip). If you do end up visiting, try to catch the Saturday Market like we did - you won't regret it. It's funny how quickly one gets to feel at home if a place just seems right (a late night hot tub soaking under a starlit sky, a hummingbird zipping around in the garden, breakfast with the cheery light streaming from east-facing windows are the sort of moments that stick) so even after a short stay like ours it can make you feel sad to have to leave. One could easily spend a week or longer in this special place to enjoy all that Salt Spring Island has to offer. Lastly, and before I forget, I should mention that Doug is a great host - his demeanor and helpfulness, without being overbearing, was part of what made Addie's Attic a great stay for us.
