A FABULOUS OCEAN FRONT RETREAT, IN STUNNING GARDENS

Colwood House Rental Photos and Description

A 2 Bedroom Private Suite, Forming Part Of A Magnificent Gracious Estate Home

Chimera is something so fabulous it cant really exist. But it does here in Victoria. Situated on a point of land reaching out into Esquimalt harbour is an estate that has to be seen to be believed. Nestled on the waters edge is a 2 bedroom suite with private entrance . The newly renovated kitchen provides everything you need to enjoy local produce and the comfortable light and spacious living/dining makes life easy. The bedrooms are provided with fine linen and plenty of storage and offer one queen sized bed and one twin bed. The sofa opens out to provide more sleeping accommodation. The bathroom is well appointed with luxury soaps and supplies, shower, vanity and toilet. Adjoining this is an in suite laundry with washer and dryer.

The large deck reaches out from the suite to the water and provides a wonderful place to sit and soak up the sun. There is a barbeque and dining facilities on the deck. To one side is our 84 ft private dock so if you want to arrive by boat ask us about moorage or bring your kayaks and use the dock to launch and explore the waters around Cole Island, a 1857 Royal Navy building, originally for storing ammunition. The soft pink bricks of the old building glow in the sun and provide many photo opportunities.

Enjoy the local wildlife, magnificent blue herons, mink, otters, seals, swans, geese and eagles. Go crab fishing off the dock. On the other side of the property is Tovey Cove a small secluded beach with a access a few minutes walk away. The shallow water means that it warms quickly. Esquimalt Harbour is a busy working harbour and there is always something to see, with boats going in and out , canoes, kayaks, paddleboarders, divers and fishermen.

View Royal is a small community within 15 minutes of downtown and has a large supermarket, medical facilities, liquor stores and restaurants. Victoria General Hospital is a few minutes away. The Galloping Goose is a wonderful bike and hiking trail which goes from downtown Victoria , through View Royal and onto Metchosin, and Sooke . It is 60 kms long and you can get onto it within about 2 kms from the house. Bring your bikes or ask us about using our bikes .

Jean McKay has lived in Victoria for 20 years after spending time in UK and Australia. After traveling the world and seeing many wonderful places she chose to make Victoria her home.

Jean McKay purchased this house in 2009

Jean fell in love with the property the moment she first set foot on it. Over the past 5 years she has completely rebuilt and renovated the old house . Jean feels that she has a responsibility to take care of and protect the grounds with their old stately arbutus trees for future generations. She is privileged to get to live here but never takes it for granted.

Sitting on the porch, gazing through the graceful twisted trunks of aged arbutus trees, watching the sparkling water and the light shining in from all sides showcasing the Olympic Mountains and breathing in all that fabulous fresh air bring a sense of peace and oneness with the natural world. Come here for a holiday and find a world you may have forgotten still exists.

Wonderful way to experience the island

  • 5 of 5
Our family had the best time on Vancouver Island. The house is very comfortable, easily accommodated 2 audits and 2 children. The kids loved exploring the gardens and the tide pools around the property, and had a really great time fishing and catching crabs off the dock. The view cannot be beat. We saw a bald eagle every morning, and seals often came by when we were having breakfast on the deck. The location is ideal - close to town, yet remote and peaceful. The owner is a very nice person, friendly and knowledgeable about local attractions and places to go. We will definitely be back - there's so much left to explore on the island! And we will definitely stay there again!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
My wife, myself, and our best friend had a most wonderful time in Victoria, and Chimera was the perfect place for the three of us. Our best friend, of course, is our 10-year old canine companion.
We especially loved the fabulous ocean views! The deck just outside our suite offered 180 degree water views. Very much enjoyed having coffee in the early morning hours and seeing the sailboats anchored just offshore. Very, very peaceful and serene, a very private and beautiful property! We will have to return and see more of the Victoria life from this wonderful location.

Honored Guests

  • 5 of 5
We rented the suite for a graduation weekend. The location was ideal for proximity to Mill Bay (just over the Malahat) as well Victoria, only a few minutes away in non-rush hour traffic. The view and outdoor living experience was exceptional and enjoyable beyond what we imagined. The suite was appointed with everything for our comfort and enjoyment and thus we felt like honored guests. We had four adults and a teenager and we were all very comfortable with the accommodations. Our only regret is that we didn't discover this haven three years ago when our son went to school in the vicinity. We plan to return for a cycling vacation and take advantage of the close proximity to the Galloping Goose trail.
