Overview

Colwood House Rental Photos and Description

A comfortable lower floor suite, part of a magnificant estate home

Chimera is something so fabulous it cant really exist. But it does here in Victoria. Situated on a point of land reaching out into Esquimalt harbour is an estate that has to be seen to be believed. Nestled on the waters edge is a 2 bedroom suite with private entrance . The suite is the lower floor of a large house and is a walk out suite with lots of windows and natural light. The newly renovated kitchen provides everything you need to enjoy local produce and the comfortable light and spacious living/dining makes life easy. The bedrooms are provided with fine linen and plenty of storage and offer one queen sized bed and two twin beds. The sofa opens out to provide more sleeping accommodation with a large queen sized bed. The bathroom is well appointed with luxury soaps and supplies, shower, vanity and toilet. Adjoining this is an in suite laundry with washer and dryer.

The large deck reaches out from the suite to the water and provides a wonderful place to sit and soak up the sun. There is a barbeque and dining facilities on the deck. To one side is our 84 ft private dock so if you want to arrive by boat ask us about moorage or bring your kayaks and use the dock to launch and explore the waters around Cole Island, a 1857 Royal Navy building, originally for storing ammunition. The soft pink bricks of the old building glow in the sun and provide many photo opportunities.

Enjoy the local wildlife, magnificent blue herons, mink, otters, seals, swans, geese and eagles. Go crab fishing off the dock. On the other side of the property is Tovey Cove a small secluded beach with a access a few minutes walk away. The shallow water means that it warms quickly. Esquimalt Harbour is a busy working harbour and there is always something to see, with boats going in and out , canoes, kayaks, paddleboarders, divers and fishermen.

View Royal is a small community within 15 minutes of downtown and has a large supermarket, medical facilities, liquor stores and restaurants. Victoria General Hospital is a few minutes away. The Galloping Goose is a wonderful bike and hiking trail which goes from downtown Victoria , through View Royal and onto Metchosin, and Sooke . It is 60 kms long and you can get onto it within about 2 kms from the house. Bring your bikes. Thetis Lake is a wonderful hiking trail and great place to take your dog for a walk ( off leash for most of the year is allowed) It is only 1.5 kms away. We welcome friendly pets as we have a dog on the property too.

About Jean McKay

Jean McKay has lived in Victoria for 20 years after spending time in UK and Australia. After traveling the world and seeing many wonderful places she chose to make Victoria her home.

Jean McKay purchased this house in 2009

Why Jean McKay chose Colwood

Jean fell in love with the property the moment she first set foot on it. Over the past 5 years she has completely rebuilt and renovated the old house . Jean feels that she has a responsibility to take care of and protect the grounds with their old stately arbutus trees for future generations. She is privileged to get to live here but never takes it for granted.

What makes this house unique

Sitting on the porch, gazing through the graceful twisted trunks of aged arbutus trees, watching the sparkling water and the light shining in from all sides showcasing the Olympic Mountains and breathing in all that fabulous fresh air bring a sense of peace and oneness with the natural world. Come here for a holiday and find a world you may have forgotten still exists.

Excellent views, perfect location. Close to everything yet quiet and peaceful. Have to see it to believe it- pictures only start to describe this residence. Accommodations more than adequate, lots of room and very comfortable. Hosts were awesome. Will definitely be back. Thanks for everything!

a piece of paradise

  • 4 of 5

The place is located on an amazing piece of land surrounded by water with stunning views. It is spacious and we'll equipped. The only downside is that the beds in the one bedroom are very small and it is fairly loud (you can hear every step from upstairs and the dog running around and the toilet flush in the bathroom is extremely loud which is annoying if you stay there with other people, it wakes you up at night.). Other than that it is a great place and we would stay there again.

Away from Alberta winter

  • 5 of 5

Our main goal was to get away from the winter months. However, we got more than what we expected from staying at this retreat. We had the serenity of the view and the ocean just by sitting on the deck, which was a few feet from our entrance door. We had relaxing rocking chairs and loungers and totally enjoyed our peaceful time. We were so glad to have a washer and dryer because as seniors it would be hard to go to the laundry mat. Our hostess was so accommodating and caring. We were two senior couples and it worked out very well. Bussing is close enough to walk to...however for us we rented a car. Thanks again to our hostess...

Amazing ocean escape

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at this property. The views were unbelieveable and peaceful. The accessability to bus stops and attractions was very handy. Taking a walk in the neighbourhood was enjoyable and to sit on the small beach was relaxing. We hope to return next year.

New Year holidays in Victoria

  • 5 of 5

We visited over New Year weekend; great place with very comfortable beds, great accommodations and very welcoming owner. Property has amazing views; we enjoyed exploring island parks and trails. Wish we took kayak along as the weather/water was perfect for kayaking and dock is right on the property. Would love to come back next summer.
