4 Bedrooms, sleeps 8-10, great for family breaks or a peaceful country retreat

Holme Street House is set in 10 acres of private land, over 2 acres of which are delightful tended gardens. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool (April - Sept approx) in its own walled area. The house is well equipped and beautifully furnished, having been our family home. The accommodation comprises farmhouse style kitchen/breakfast room with AGA; spacious but cosy beamed dining room with table seating 10-12; tranquil sitting room with open fire & baby grand piano; family room with wood burning stove, double sofa bed, TV etc (Sky); downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs there are four large bedrooms with lovely views over the gardens, 2 with double beds, 2 with zip and link twin beds which can be joined to make super king beds. The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom with shower over the bath, and two further bedrooms have washbasins. There is a further family bathroom with power shower over the bath. Children are welcome - a good selection of books, toys & videos are provided.

Local Amenities: The house is about 1 mile from the village, with easy parking. Within the village there is an excellent greengrocer and two butchers - all of these stock locally grown/organic produce. There is a co-op which has all the basics, including fresh bread, a chemist and a post office. There is also a very good wine shop. The tea room sells lovely cakes, also light lunches. There are two good pubs - one at the end of the lane, a three minute walk from the house - the food here is excellent, summer and winter. There are also two supermarkets within a five minute drive from the house, and a fish and chip shop.

In Storrington, about five miles away, there are several very good restaurants.

General Notes: Due to the size of the property considerable maintenance of the grounds is needed, and the gardener will be on site for approximately three days each week, sometimes split across the week depending on what work is needed. He is very discreet and will endeavour to keep out of your way if you are using a particular part of the garden. He also knows a great deal about the house and grounds, so is a useful source of information should you need anything. The pool is heated by air source heat pump, so is somewhat dependent on external air temperature.

A beautiful home in a beautiful setting

What a lovely house! Holme Street House was, if anything, better than we were expecting. We came here for a bit of respite away from our busy lives, and it was perfect. Lovely surroundings - we did go for a great walk on the South Downs, but would have been just as happy staying at the house. The gardens are beautifully maintained and must be lovely in the summer, the house itself was warm and cosy, but spacious enough for the eight of us not to feel crowded. The house was clean and well looked after, and the owner was very helpful and answered all the questions we had before our stay. We would definitely recommend this property, and hope to come back one day.

Wonderful house, like living in a stately home!

What a wonderful place to stay. We were surprised how homely the place felt. The log burner was a real treat, and we loved how cosy it was to have evenings round the fire. The house is well looked after, and more spacious than we'd thought from looking at the pictures. It was great to have so much help beforehand, answering questions etc, it really helped us enjoy our stay. I would certainly recommend the house, I'd be keen to stay again. It was like staying in a stately home thanks to all the old features of the house, but comfortable, so you could relax and feel at home. We enjoyed a trip to the RSPB reserve, just down the road, and had a great chinese takeaway from Pulborough, which is a beautiful village. Having the station so close was useful too. Thank you for helping us have a great time. I'd love to come back in the summer and make the most of the swimming pool!

It was like home from home with so many details thought of. It was beautiful looking out over the fields of sheep and the exquisite gardens. It felt like a real retreat and a well needed break! The kids loved playing outside in the garden and pool, and in the evenings it was great relaxing by the fire. The cake on arrival was a beautiful touch and delicious! We think you thought of everything!

Very helpful host, and a beautiful (and very well-equipped) house in pretty surroundings. The property was very well-maintained with four good-sized double bedrooms, and the two living rooms - both with fires - ensure that you're not tripping over each other!

As others have said, the pictures do not do the house justice.

Notes:
A further note on seating - the lounge & family room both have seating for 8, but a number of the chairs are easily portable from room to room if 10 are staying. There are toys & games available for guests' use, and a selection of videos & DVDs. Due to age (the house is 250 years old), the stone floors on the ground floor are somewhat uneven, with steps to some of the rooms, hence saying the property is unsuitable for wheelchairs, or elderly or infirm. The washing machine and tumble dryer are situated in the cellar down stone steps, which are reached through a door in the hallway. The large garden is a particular feature of the property, and includes an orchard and a wooden wendy house for children. The field (7 acres) is sometimes grazed by sheep, and has a small lake, stocked with roach and carp. You are welcome to bring fishing rods!
