We had a wondertul time at this beautiful spot. Gussie's place was an ideal place to have our annual sisters' reunion and celebrate Eileen's 50th birthday. Rainy days by the fire with wine and good conversation--walks to the meadow, pond sitting and lovely drives make for some great memories---thanks.

Summer in the Trinities

  • 5 of 5
My wife, our 7 year-old daughter, and dog spent a wonderful four days at Eagle Creek Ranch. This is a large and beautiful property snugged along the banks of the Trinity River, on the far eastern edge of the Trinity Alps. The ranch house sits adjacent to a sparsely traveled local road, which locals use for their evening walks. Immediately across from the house, a grassy pasture and grazing horses are overlooked by a striking mountain ridge. The crest of Billy's Peak towers over the valley.

All of this was just what we were looking for. We fished (no luck) and swam (brrr!) in the Trinity. We walked the roads, and there were lots of hikes - either right out the door or only minutes away by car. We played in the yard, read books, and hardly ever went inside. I saw the same bald eagle, hunting above the river, every morning on my runs.

By the end of the trip, our daughter was ready to give up city life and even cried as we packed up. These are all signs of a really good trip.

More beautiful than the pictures

  • 5 of 5
Eagle Creek Ranch is a superb vacation house. The house is well appointed, comfortable and everything is top quality. The surroundings in the valley of two mountain's with the Trinity River flowing through the property is ideal for fishing and the roads along the property are great for biking. Linda makes sure you are well taken care of -- from the amenities to advice about where to find trout and great hiking. We comfortably housed four adults, two teenagers and two toddlers. The green lawn near the house, the wonderful front porch, top quality beds and the eat in kitchen make for a comfortable stay. Internet access is good and allowed everyone to look up info on trails, and do some essential work. The house was spotless and stocked with soap, shampoo, towels, basic spices, and other essentials. Great fishing and a fun swimming hole right on the property. I would highly recommend Eagle Creek Ranch to anyone that wants to experience the magic of the Trinity Alps.

Fantastic Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
What an amazing hidden gem to be found in the Trinity Alps! From the super hospitality from Linda and Bob, to the tranquility and serenity of the ranch and its surroundings; one couldn’t ask for more. We have stayed in many vacation rentals and this one has to be put at the top of the list! Just sorry that we couldn't have stayed for longer....

My wife, 3 month old son, parents and our dog had a great stay at your cabin! The pictures don't describe how beautiful the area is. Everything in Gussie's was clean and comfortable. We look forward to returning in the future.
Best,
BP

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
We have been coming to this beautiful ranch for three years now. We have found heaven and can never wait to get back up here. Peace and solitude are always awaiting and there are no better hosts than Bob and Linda. We have even introduced Eagle Creek Ranch to our grown children and grand kids. No surprise, they all love it! Our six year old grandson was so excited as he reeled in trout from the Trinity River that flows through the property. Needless to say, the trout fishing is fantastic! The countless hiking trails are also a great way to see this beautiful region of California. Linda is so knowledgeable about the trails and will always send you on a great hike. We also always look forward to mingling with Rusty, who is so willing to lend a helping hand.
As you can see, we love it here and can't wait to get back. Thank you Bob and Linda for helping us find our second home!

We are in the heart of the Trinity Alps, straddling the Trinity River. To our north is nothing...that's right just the wilderness with great hiking trails and high alpine meadows and lakes where you often may be the only one at an alpine lake (Oh, I forgot the 120 ft flower bed). Many of our guests bring their bikes as there is safe biking and walking right in front of our rental. When a car ventures down our road it is an event and everyone discusses the color and make and who it might belong to. Your views will be the mountains (Ramshorn Mt. and Billy's Peak are 'in your face'), pastures with horses, and our pond, complete with BBQ and fire pit for marshmallow evenings. Our favorite pond activity is to count the turtle heads...(the record is 6). We have an abundance of wildlife, including eagles, osprey, otters, bobcats, deer, black bear and many other species of birds and other wildlife. Orioles use our ranch for their nesting grounds as do the tree swallows, so spring and summer are busy with parental duties. There is a great local winery close by to spend an afternoon learning about the art of wine making. We also have a nice local restaurant known for its wood fired pizza and other sandwiches and salads. They frequently have music in the summer time. There are two local country stores for necessities and two more casual eateries close by. Since our property straddles the river there is fishing and gold panning very close by..just a short stroll. There are also many scenic drives to be enjoyed. You could spend an afternoon in the historic town of Etna in a ranching valley just over the mountain with an old time soda fountain and a brewery that serves a great lunch. Spend a day in the old gold mining town of Weaverville which has a wonderful museum, shops and restaurants. We have satellite internet, a generator that comes on automatically if the power goes out (so you will never know), mail pick up and delivery, cell phone service 7 miles south (our phone is available for emergencies), charcoal BBQ, air conditioning, quiet heating and wood stove. The main bedroom upstairs takes up the entire upstairs so it's BIG and includes a bathroom with two sinks. Of course, there is another bedroom downstairs and another bathroom. Most people spend their time 'porch sitting' or lounging under the 100 plus year old trees on the large lawn. The ranch is very historic and is described as one of the 'oldest agricultural pieces' in Trinity County. The road in front of your rental WAS the Oregon-California Trail and we are fortunate in that the main highway was moved in the 60's leaving us peace and quiet. There is an old barn in front of the rental and the 'wagon shed' which is where the wagon drivers on the Oregon-California Trail parked the wagon and slept upstairs. The ranch was also a telegraph station and the owners live in the original ranch house built in 1858. It is a log home with modified dove joints. We are only the fourth owners of this property with some of the previous owners buried in the Stoddard Family Cemetery located just south of the 100 plus apple and pear orchard which still bears fruit. We believe Eagle Creek Ranch to be a special piece of paradise and we love to share it with families looking to enjoy an atmosphere that is close to what it was 150 years ago.
