We are in the heart of the Trinity Alps, straddling the Trinity River. To our north is nothing...that's right just the wilderness with great hiking trails and high alpine meadows and lakes where you often may be the only one at an alpine lake (Oh, I forgot the 120 ft flower bed). Many of our guests bring their bikes as there is safe biking and walking right in front of our rental. When a car ventures down our road it is an event and everyone discusses the color and make and who it might belong to. Your views will be the mountains (Ramshorn Mt. and Billy's Peak are 'in your face'), pastures with horses, and our pond, complete with BBQ and fire pit for marshmallow evenings. Our favorite pond activity is to count the turtle heads...(the record is 6). We have an abundance of wildlife, including eagles, osprey, otters, bobcats, deer, black bear and many other species of birds and other wildlife. Orioles use our ranch for their nesting grounds as do the tree swallows, so spring and summer are busy with parental duties. There is a great local winery close by to spend an afternoon learning about the art of wine making. We also have a nice local restaurant known for its wood fired pizza and other sandwiches and salads. They frequently have music in the summer time. There are two local country stores for necessities and two more casual eateries close by. Since our property straddles the river there is fishing and gold panning very close by..just a short stroll. There are also many scenic drives to be enjoyed. You could spend an afternoon in the historic town of Etna in a ranching valley just over the mountain with an old time soda fountain and a brewery that serves a great lunch. Spend a day in the old gold mining town of Weaverville which has a wonderful museum, shops and restaurants. We have satellite internet, a generator that comes on automatically if the power goes out (so you will never know), mail pick up and delivery, cell phone service 7 miles south (our phone is available for emergencies), charcoal BBQ, air conditioning, quiet heating and wood stove. The main bedroom upstairs takes up the entire upstairs so it's BIG and includes a bathroom with two sinks. Of course, there is another bedroom downstairs and another bathroom. Most people spend their time 'porch sitting' or lounging under the 100 plus year old trees on the large lawn. The ranch is very historic and is described as one of the 'oldest agricultural pieces' in Trinity County. The road in front of your rental WAS the Oregon-California Trail and we are fortunate in that the main highway was moved in the 60's leaving us peace and quiet. There is an old barn in front of the rental and the 'wagon shed' which is where the wagon drivers on the Oregon-California Trail parked the wagon and slept upstairs. The ranch was also a telegraph station and the owners live in the original ranch house built in 1858. It is a log home with modified dove joints. We are only the fourth owners of this property with some of the previous owners buried in the Stoddard Family Cemetery located just south of the 100 plus apple and pear orchard which still bears fruit. We believe Eagle Creek Ranch to be a special piece of paradise and we love to share it with families looking to enjoy an atmosphere that is close to what it was 150 years ago.
