Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.
I wish I could have stayed for weeks! We traveled to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown during our days, but returned here for quiet late afternoons and nights. Everything was immaculate - from the landscaping outside to the attention to detail and comfort inside. I devoured the books about old Virginia houses and the history of the Ware River, including the Glen Roy property on which the cottage sits, while listening to great jazz CDs and enjoying the cool breeze through open windows. To Peg and John: Staying at your home was like meeting and making new friends, and my son and I appreciate you sharing this special place!
We visited Peg and John's adorable little cottage for a few days in May. It was just what we needed to relax and unwind. The owners have done a great job with the renovations and outfitting it with everything it needs to be a cozy little cottage. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all in a quiet, peaceful setting- this is a great place! Loved it!
Amazing! This place was perfect, would recommend staying here if you can. :-)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Once again, we had a wonderful time. Besides the peaceful respite, the highlight of this stay were the baby eagles and their mama RIGHT BESIDE your private pier. This was a mini honeymoon and my new husband loved it too. We're coming back for some fishing soon.
Our stay was the last week in March, the intent was to visit our son for 10 days and enjoy the early Spring and the daffodils in Virginia. It was an unusual week of rain, north winds, but with a few days of sunshine.
It was a week of unusual cold winds, rain with some sunshine. We were there to enjoy
It was an unusual week of rain, wind and a little sunshine, we were there to enjoy a visit with our son and to ride the trails around Yorktown and new trail Williamsburg to Richmond with our bikes. We very much enjoyed the time with our son, having dinner every night at the cottage, it was easy to feel as if we were home; it was so warmly decorated, with the many books we were able to enjoy the history of the area; ate lunch at Nuttall & Co. read very old Life magazines and talked to the neighbors. We spent much time in Yorktown and Gloucester. The book store in Gloucester had many old treasures, the market and the shops we enjoyed Our hosts were wonderfully warm and caring people, inviting us to enjoy the grounds. We also much enjoyed our son and the cottage with all the daffodils and surrounding area. We will go back to ride the trails with our bikes and look forward to seeing Peg and John, who welcome you to enjoy the cottage and grounds.
It was a very cold, snowy weekend in February and this was so cozy for just hunkering down for the weekend. Which, except for going out for dinner each night, is exactly what we did! Our hosts went so far above and beyond any expectations to accommodate us through an unforeseen and unpreventable situation that I cannot sing their praises enough!!!!!! They also had the fireplace loaded and ready to burn and that is exactly what we did. Nearly the whole weekend. It was such a treat and provided warmth and wonderful ambiance for our romantic getaway weekend! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone considering it! Thanks Peg and John!!!!
We are in a lovely rural setting and yet close enough to Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg to enjoy all they have to offer including historical tours, amusement parks,
Farmers markets and fine dining.
