Overview

Overview

Akumal Condo Rental Photos and Description

Akumal Mexico's 'Casa Caribbean' is a spacious waterfront penthouse condo in a private location on Half Moon Bay overlooking a white sand beach and the azure Caribbean on Mexico's Mayan Riviera.

* Snorkeling in Half-Moon Bay's own magical coral reef right in front of the apartment

* Short walk to wonderful Snorkeling at renowned Yal-Ku Lagoon

* Minutes from Akumal's dive shops, restaurants, grocery stores, craft boutiques, and ecological center dedicated to preserving the area's beauty and native Mayan culture

Driving Tips: It is about an hour drive south of Cancun. The roads have improved with overpasses in Playa del Carmen but be careful to obey the speed limit… if not you will be stopped.

• To get to Akumal entrance you drive past the pedestrian overpass, stay in the left lane, you will take a u-turn to go back to the entrance a short distance on the right.

The local store in town (Super Chomak) is expensive so if you want to buy groceries stop at Chedraui on your right between Playa del Carmen and Akumal… across fromPuerto Aventuras.

We also like Soriana in Centro Maya mall just past Sam's Club in Playa del Carmen (on your right) but it is more difficult to get to…you have to get off the road, turn around and go back to turn into the mall.

There is a farmer's market on saturdays across from Chomak (and maybe wednesdays also).

Restaurants: we love La Lunita right next to the condo…(our guests get 15% discounts)... they will even deliver dinner for dinner on the terrace. La Lunita is open for lunch and dinner offering indoor or beach seating with tables on the sand or their wooden deck on the beach. It is a great place to dine under the moonlight, quite romantic! La Lunita specializes in classic Mexican cuisine and seafood. http://www.lalunita-akumal.com

La Buena Vida is good…and fun (swings at the bar and a treehouse)… a short walk from condo.

Lol-Ha has a palapa style beach bar with open air tables under roof and pizza at Lol-Ha Pizzeria.

Main beach Akumal Bay to right of the arch.

Lonchería… inexpensive local place. Local Mexican dishes, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Location: next to Chomack grocery store.

Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery bakes its own breads, cakes, cookies. Good hearty breakfasts (American and Mexican food).

Location: Located in central Akumal across from Akumal Bay

La Cueva del Pescador

The restaurant has a sand floor, interior and exterior seating, good fish. Can get buggy if there is not a breeze. It's located next to Turtle Bay.

If you like snorkeling go straight out about 200 yards from the condo to the dark area which is all coral and beautiful. If it is windy you may wish to snorkel at Akumal Bay where the reef is not as nice but it is less windy. Half Moon Bay where we are has a beautiful sand beach but you may wish to wear water shoes because the sand ends where the water begins. At Akumal Bay the sand goes way out so no water shoes are needed.

Yal-Ku Lagoon is quite near Casa Caribbean (you could walk)… and wonderful….

Yal-ku Lagoon is wonderful for both adults and children. There are no ocean waves. There are several easy entry stairs with railing into the lagoon. Easy, gentle slow paced snorkeling. Great variety of gorgeous fish that are not intimidated by humans. Entry into the lagoon is by jumping off a rocky ledge, or using stairs to enter in approximately 6-7 feet deep water. Take caution when bringing younger children who are not comfortable if they can’t touh the bottom or enter by walking in from land.

Admission is $9.00 U.S.A. or 95 pesos. Limited palapa rentals are $20US for the day if you would like an area with seating, shade and privacy. Alcoholic beverages are not welcome at the lagoon. Buy their biodegradable sunscreen or bring biodegradable that you’ve purchased elsewhere. Wear a t-shirt -- even on an overcast day you can really get a sunburn. There are eco-friendly elevated pit toilets and an outside shower. Definitely bring an underwater camera. Fabulous place to spend all or part of a day. There is a snack bar. Open 8 - 5:30 daily.

We love Paraiso Beach in Tulum which is a wide and long beach that goes from the Tulum ruins to probably a mile south of the ruins. It has to be one of the most beautiful white coral beaches in the world. It is not a snorkeling beach but great for a swim and a Margarita.

There are extra beach towels in the chest in master bedroom. Ask the maids if you need more. Roberto is a great resource…very helpful…so ask him about anything I might have missed.

While you might not want to leave the tranquility of Casa Caribbean, adventures await! Hike through Xcaret Eco-park, scuba dive in nearby caves (cenotes), golf at Puerto Aventura or shop in Playa del Carmen or other exciting locations just north of Akumal. Or, head south and explore the Mayan ruins of Tulum or of our favorite place, Coba.

About Scott and Paula Blaker

We are a couple that grew up in New England and have called Washington state home since 2000. We currently work abroad for the US State Department and recently bought this amazing condo in Akumal. We look forward to spending a lot of time here with family and friends. Why the Owner Chose Akumal: We fell in love with the area and when we saw the incredible view from the large balcony and living room from this penthouse condo, we knew we wanted to buy this magical haven. Roberto, the long standing property manager who is on-site, is a gem with a long history of feedback from renters as being a helpful, reliable and fantastic resource for renters. We love the laid back feeling of the area, the rich and healthy reef with incredible snorkeling and diving just in front of the place. We love the sound of the surf and lack of motor noise, yet also appreciate that fun motor and water sport activities are available not far up or down the coastline for our older children and future grandchildren. It is also a great launching point from which to explore the richness that the Yucatan peninsula has to offer, including Tulum and Coba Mayan ruins and Sian Ka'an nature preserve. The Unique Benefits at this Condo: The bird watching in the jungle area behind us and the snorkeling right in front of us is among the best in the world. The coral reef is healthy and thriving. Turtles nest on the beach in summer and watching them hatch is an incredible experience!

Tranquil, relaxing and perfect location

  • 5 of 5
My husband, two teenage daughters and I had an amazing 4 night stay at Casa Carribean. The condo was exactly what we were looking for all the necessities to make for wonderful memories. The condo is located at a quiet bay, away from all of the hustle and bustle of nearby towns and Cancun. We had a car to visit local cenotes and even Chichen Itza. If your taste is to do more of the tourist attractions, they are all nearby by car or taxi. The pictures were accurate of the decor but the view from the condo was unbelievable. That was priceless!
We did not book the condo until day of our arrival and I was communicating with the owner day until an hour before our arrival! He was extremely responsive and I felt he wanted to make things work for our family. Thank you for opening your home to us, we will sure be back but for a longer duration.

BEST VIEW, CONDO, SNORKELING IN AKUMAL!

  • 5 of 5
Exceeded our expectations: quiet, clean, well stocked, comfortable, private. Best snorkeling in the bay right out front. Friendly and efficient staff on hand for any/all needs. Easy walk to lagoon, restaurants, town if that is your thing. We preferred a "staycation" - Perfect romantic getaway for a couple wanting rest and relaxation. Bring a puzzle to do on the patio card table and books to read in the hammock!

Perfect vacation spot

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for our first trip to Mexico and we absolutely loved it! The condo is very nice and roomy. The balcony is the best place. We sat in the hammock overlooking the bay every day. The water is a little rocky but there is a good swimming area (walking distance) in Akumal Beach. Which also has the sea turtles. You are pretty much guaranteed to see those beautiful creatures any time of the year. There is really not a need to leave Akumal. There is shopping, dining, and entertainment all right here. We rented bikes ($6.00) every day and thats how we got around. Our favorite resturant is Akumal Bakery. They have much much more then just pasteries. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I reccommend the 'Ziggy Piggy' for dessert! The locals in Akumal are very nice. Tolum is about a $20 US cab fare each way if you want to visit the Mayan Ruins. The property manager Roberto has the answer to any question that you may have during your stay. His office is right behing the condo and he is there 24/7. I cant wait to return very soon!!

Great home base in Paradise

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I and our three kids stayed at this property during a recent spring break to the Mayan Riviera. We absolutely loved it. The condo itself is is great condition and attractively decorated. But the main draw is LOCATION! From most rooms in the condo you have a beautiful view of the beach and ocean below and cool breezes blow all day. We enjoyed many meals on our balcony looking down into water so clear that we could see the sea turtles swimming past! We spent lots of time lounging on the beach, my kids had fun in the pool, and we grabbed our snorkel gear and (literally) walked out to the reef on several occasions. The manager of the property was helpful and professional and all communication was easy. Housekeeping service was top-notch and I felt absolutely spoiled! Using this condo as "home base" we took day trips to Tulum, Sian Ka'an, and Aktun Chen. We were also able to walk to Yal Ku Lagoon from our condo.

Being on Half Moon Bay meant we avoided the huge crowds (Easter weekend) of Akumal Bay and this slice of beach was private and beautiful. As soon as you enter the water here, though, you are walking on rocks/coral, so water shoes are a must! A few tips: If you want to enjoy a beautiful, uncrowded sandy beach during your stay at this condo, drive the few minutes to Xcacel where there is a gorgeous beach and a cenote to explore. Do your shopping in the grocery store in Playa del Carmen or Tulum to stock up your kitchen. Stores in Akumal are very pricey.

All in all, we highly recommend both this property and visiting this part of Mexico. We had an amazing time and hope to be back soon!

Best Vacation (and Balcony) Ever!!

  • 5 of 5
This condo on the beach and the village of Akumal met all our needs for relaxation, activity and fun. We loved the low-keyness of the place and lack of high rises. The soothing sound of the surf and oh-so-spacious all-purpose balcony a stones throw from the beach is embedded in my memory. The ocean water was so clear I could see the fan coral and fish without a mask. We enjoyed the variety of beaches in the area and great restaurants (including right downstairs at La Lunita -- especially loved their Caesar salads -- and EVERYTHING at Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery!) And the high quality local crafts (and people) at Galeria Lamanai made our visits to town that much more special. I had the best fish ever (grilled butterfish) at Simple, across from Tulum Beach. And what a great launching point this lovely condo is from which to explore the richness that the Yucatan peninsula has to offer, including Tulum and Coba Mayan ruins and Sian Ka'an nature preserve. We plan to return as soon as possible!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! The coral is beautiful isn't it? We haven't tried the restaurant Simple so will have to try it soon. Sounds tasty. We appreciate you taking time to review our place.
