Ron & Donna Strich
We live in Englewood - this property was our home that we remodeled to suit us and we planned to stay in it forever (never say forever :-) - then we had an opportunity to buy a larger house on the same street and decided to do that...so now we can accommodate our growing family (grandchildren) when they come to visit us. We love this area as it truly is an undiscovered gem. Donna is originally from the Gulf Coast - in Mississippi, Ron grew up in Kentucky, but lived most of his adult life in Colorado. Ron attended the Air Force Academy and decided he liked it there and stayed a while. We met in 2004 and were married 'in a Hurricane' - actually we got married in July 2005, then rode out Hurricane Katrina in August in Mississippi where we lived at the time. After going through that rebuilding experience, we decided to semi-retire to Florida.
In 2006 we decided we wanted to retire to Florida, Ron was familiar with the area because he had built a house for his Mom and Dad to winter in in the area so we began looking at property. We knew we wanted waterfront with deep water. Because we like to deep sea fish, we also wanted property close to a pass for Gulf fishing, and has a lot of bay and near shore fishing opportunity too. We didn't want the 'big city' hustle and bustle, but close enough to visit one if we wanted to do other 'city' activities. We searched from Pine Island to Nokomis and then we discovered this hidden gem - convenient to everything but you feel far away from it all when you are sitting on your lanai and relaxing in the evening. With so few Gulf access passes, we found a unique property that allows us to enjoy any type of water activity activity.
This home makes you feel like you are a part of the water - you can see dolphin playing and manatees swimming while cooking supper! We love the fact that we have deep water for our boats, can have a roof on our dock and be in the Gulf of Mexico in 5 minutes. You cannot replicate this home today with the restrictions in building codes for waterfront property. High ceilings, no stairs and water views at water level in a modern, high end home.
