Jim and I have lived and worked thruout rural Alaska before settling in Homer in 2004.

Jim retired from National Weather Service 3 years ago . We both enjoy kayaking, hiking, birding and feel privledged to live in this wonderful community.

Perfect spot to stay in Homer

The owners have thought of everything for this perfectly appointed suite. Other than purchasing groceries, I had everything I needed, including a well-stocked storage room and even a basket of Crocs for a quick run outside or down the stairs to the bog. The suite is ample for one or two people; I comfortably entertained my daughter and her boyfriend there just about every day. We enjoyed using the gas grill on the patio and made some delicious meals with Homer's abundant fresh fish and baked goods (Two Sisters was my favorite). I could not have been happier; the bed was huge and comfy and the suite was cozy. Maureen was super helpful when I needed her but also respected my privacy. Since Homer is not exactly a walkable town, I relied on my daughter to get around and everything we wanted to do was just a quick car ride away. Greatly enjoyed the Spit, from the Salty Dawg to Fresh Catch and the little shops along the way. Finally, I loved making a cup of coffee (thanks for the beans, Maureen!) every morning and sitting in front of one of the most spectacular views that Nature can afford. Hope to stay again if I ever come back to Homer. I highly recommend Seagrass Summer House.

Absolutely Wonderful!

This was our first trip to Alaska and after a long drive from the lower 48, we were ready to relax for a few days. Seagrass was perfect. The view of the spit, the bay, the mountains is fantastic. The photos do not do the place justice. It is even nicer than they show. The place was spotless, comfortable and had all we needed to do our own cooking. Homer is a fun little town...great museum, lots of art galleries with Alaskan artists, lots of eating establishments. We also took the ferry across the bay to Halibut Cove and ate at The Saltry. Good food in a unique setting.
The owner, Maureen, was available if needed, very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much and if we ever pass that way again we certainly would stay at Seagrass.

Amazing Views

This property is a wonderful cozy hideaway right at the entrance to the Homer Spit with spectacular views of the bay, Spit, mountains and glaciers. It is clean, neat as a pin and well equipped for the home cook despite the lack of a range. The pantry has an array of electric cooking appliances and there is a propane grill on the deck. We went halibut fishing our first morning and were able to grill that evening. There is a good Safeway (Carr's) grocery in town with a liquor store so you don't need to stock up in Anchorage before arrival. Cooking was great for us as everything out on the Spit seemed vastly overpriced.

The property is very nicely decorated and the enclosed deck is a great place to sit and soak up the view over a glass of wine. Can't stress enough how amazing the scenery is. The house has a nice set of binoculars to help.

We were able to find the property easily and all of the interactions with the owners were minimal but fine. In Alaska during the summer, everyone seems to be really busy. We were happy to be on our own. We would stay here again in a minute and can happily recommend it to others.

While in Homer we can recommend the halibut fishing. We went out on a 1/2 day charter with Alaska Coastal Marine and both of us caught the limit of two fish. Don't expect barn-door sized fish on a 1/2 day charter but we ended up with about 25 lbs of filets and a great experience. Coming from the mountains of New Mexico just being out on the water with the birds and the sea otters was amazing. Now we're hooked and want to go back. Note that licenses are $20 per person for 1 day and required.

In summary - this is a first class VRBO and an awesome place to stay.

Really the pictures of this homely lodging really do not adquately show just how great it is, Firstly the vista is absolutely spectactular. Location very central right at the beginning of the Spit.

Accommodation large, clean, more views and adequately supplied. Reading back through some of the past review we can only reiterate their complimentary comments.

All I can say if you are not satisified with this accommodation then you are very hard to please . Their tariff of $150 is great value for money

I have been to Homer twice on vacation and have stayed at the Seagrass Summer House both times. The house sits on the bluff overlooking Kachemak Bay with beautiful views of the mountains and glaciers beyond. The house is beautifully furnished and very relaxing. The owners are incredibly nice and accommodating. I highly recommend the Seagrass House.
