On the Caribbean island of St. Maarten, Sea Star #24 is an intimate seaside retreat with 1,047 square feet of well-appointed living space---just footsteps away from Dawn Beach via private walkway (no streets to cross!) and the Oyster Pond Marina. Within the gated, secured Coral Beach Club, Sea Star #24 provides guests with a quiet, pristine, desirable setting eight miles removed from the cacophony of the crowds, bars, airport traffic, tourist enticements and high-rise accommodations.

The exterior gallery (balcony) provides a serene, sunny morning northeastern view of Oyster Pond Marina and the inspiring backdrop of mountains and lush tropic foliage. Located on the windward, east coast side of the island, guests enjoy constant breezes and year round 78-86 degree temperatures to soothe body, mind and spirit.

SeaStar 24 provides five-star amenities (including all linens, toiletries and bathrobes) to ensure your ultimate comfort and convenience and is located with easy access to several favored restaurants (Canoa, Mr. Busbys Pizza and Daniels by the Sea are on site; Captain Olivers is across the harbor), other beaches, spas and fitness facilities, numerous water sports, entertainment venues and excursion opportunities to neighboring islands.

The island consists of two parts---the Dutch side and the French side, marked by border markers but requiring no passport for passage. Conveniently located on the pristine, affluent quarters that consists of Dawn Beach and Oyster Bay, Condo SeaStar 24 provides the safety and security guests seek while traveling to the islands with gated parking outside and a reserved garage space (for a total of two cars) and private walkway access to Dawn Beach.

English is the predominant language on the Dutch side, and many ex-pat Americans call St. Maarten home. Dutch Gilders (NAF) is as readily accepted is as American currency and exchange is readily translated at point-of-purchase at both shops and grocers.

Currency on the French side is predominantly Euros, but many shops accept American dollars at the same rate as Euros while others will facilitate a conversion and, sometimes an upcharge (depending upon market value).

Note that while dining on the French side, tradition calls for unhurried dining and the epitome of rudeness is impatience with food delivery. Relax! Your cheque will not usually be delivered until you ask for it: this is considered appropriate, polite manner. There are many wonderful eateries on both the Dutch and French sides of the island that your hosts and their guests have enjoyed. Menu samples are arranged in a notebook reference guide located in the Condo or you can ask the concierge, Josette, for other recommendations. The universal favorites consistenty remain Canoa, right on site, the Pizza Restaurant adjacent to Mr. Busbys on the beach where Robert-Emanuel Ford turns out thin crust pizza that will spoil you against your usual fare, the local Creole offerings at Talk of the Town in Grand Case (Grahnd Cahhhz), great barbeque fare at Mark's Place in Phillipsburg, or delightful breakfast at Serafina's in Marigot (Mar-e-go) where merely viewing the extensive showcase of fare is certain to pack on the pounds. Don't miss the baguettes offered at numerous bakeries; and share any leftovers, if any, with the local fish.

Many SeaStar24 guests have indicated they enjoy the scenic bayview walk over to the French side from the condo and the fare offered at Mama's Pizza or Captain Olivers (which is adjacent to the ferry service to St. Barts). Make it an adventure you'll come back for year after year!

About Captain Jon and Louise

Capt. and Mrs. Jon hail from the New England States and have for years enjoyed travelling throughout the Caribbean and decided to make St. Maarten their second home. Delighted to share SeaStar #24 with their extended families and guests, they enjoy hearing about the varied adventures and special memories made by all during their stay.

Why Captain Jon and Louise chose Oyster Pond

After having been to all of the other islands, Capt. and Mrs. Jon were especially taken with the beauty of the island, its friendly people, and the variety of beaches to choose from---37 of them to be exact. St. Maarten/St. Martin is home and favored vacation destination for many cultures! Avid boaters and snorkeling fans, the owners enjoy exploring the reef at Dawn Beach while their guests report that the water sports, zip-lining, horseback riding, hiking around the island, island hopping and shopping are among their favorite things to do when they are not just relaxing or frolicking in the surf at Dawn Beach or taking pictures there at sunrise. Rather than choose a more serene bayside setting on the island, Jon and Louise preferred and selected the open ocean windward beach setting where breezes are constant and the surf is refreshing, invigorating and ideal for swimming, floating around with a styrofoam noodle or jumping through the rolling waves. You can see the neighboring island of St. Barthelemy (St. Barts) in the distance from the beach---who could ask for a better place to take a vacation or spend a special holiday?

While there are a great many other lodging options to choose from on the island, Jon, who is a credentialed Maritime Captain having retired from corporate life as an accountant for a multi-national components manufacturer and Louise, who is an accomplished sales and marketing professional and an avid writer, enjoy the beachfront setting and amenities Dawn Beach provides while still having a short-drive access to tourist enticements, shopping, nightlife and the other island attractions. Family and guests enjoy footstep access to the pool and beach versus steep-hill driving or major mountainside sweaty hikes in tropical weather encumbered with tote bags, towels and other beach implements to gain a days enjoyment in the crystal clear waters. All appliances and electrical outlets are U.S., there is no need for bulky current converters.

SeaStar #24 enables the traveler to pack lightly since among its amenities include a private washer and dryer, as well as an iron and ironing board for guests' personal convenience. Everything you could want for your own convenience and entertaining is here, including a Viking wine cooler, teak dry bar, outdoor teak bistro set for two, gas grill, premium cookware, select spices/condiments, appliances, dinnerware, flatware, beverage glasses and stemware. In addition, CBC provides beach chaises for guest use on Dawn Beach (umbrellas can be rented for the day). Maid service is provided daily.

Courtesy pick-up at the airport at arrival is optional, as is car rental delivery: both arranged by the resort concierge at your time of reservation. Close proximity to spa facilities, Captain Olivers Marina for excursions to neighboring islands, daily ferry to Pinel Island, grocery stores including small convenience store on premises plus short drive to Grande Marche in Cole Bay or Phillipsburg for groceries and a few specialty food markets.

Guests enjoy the zip-lining adventures, the Lotterie butterfly farm, horseback riding on the beach, breakfast at Serafinas in Marigot, shopping on Front Street in Philipsburg, water sports and snorkeling at any one of 37 beaches, naturalist sunbathing and swimming at a crescent-shaped two-mile stretch of white-sandy beach, scuba-diving and/or lessons in a PADI-approved training center and bay, watching the planes come in and depart near the Princess Julianna International Airport, and the numerous casinos, bars and restaurants throughout the island. Regardless of your interests, you will find your own source of perfect enchantment, entertainment and relaxation on the unspoiled island that is Sint Maarten/St. Martin.

For snorkeling fans, pack your gear at the bottom of your suitcase! Since there is a private washer and dryer on premises, no need to overpack and attire is cotton/linen casual or sportswear and comfortable casual for dining out at most of the restaurants.

Condo guests enjoy premium amenities (L'Occitane shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel, body lotion), a fully equipped kitchen (including Wusthoff cutlery, select condiments, spices and a few other convenience items). Two beach chairs, an umbrella, cooler and beach towels are provided for your use throughout the island, Styrofoam "noodles" for floating around in the water at any one of the 37 beaches here, or in the pool on site. Bar service is available on many of the beaches. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available on most of the 37 beaches on the island for a daily-use fee. Your hosts provide a beach tote, two chairs and an SPF 70 umbrella plus a cooler and reusable ice packs for your use. (Dawn Beach provides beach chaises for guests of resort; umbrellas extra.) Parking along the beaches is generally free, and some beaches offer limited, fee-based parking.
