Experience the quiet peace of Island living and the mystique of gone by days staying at the Charity Island Lightkeepers Home Located next to the lighthouse which was built in 1857. The Lighthouse and keepers quarters are located on the very northern tip of Big Charity Island located10 miles offshore in the very middle of 20 mile wide Saginaw Bay.
The Home has a full bath and four bedrooms upstairs, each with a trundle bed. The master bedroom located downstairs has a queen size bed and full bath.
(Each bedroom is named after a lightkeeper that served on Charity Island).
A half bath is located off the spacious living room that features lots of large windows that provide unique panaramic views of the Lake Huron..
The galley style Kitchen comes complete with modern conveniences including microwave and gas range and full size gas powered refrigerator. (no garbage disposal, compost pile). Maritime history surrounds this privately owned Lightkeepers home with history Kiosks that relate highlights of the lighthouse' past service located outside around the yard. Nearly all of the Island is managed by Federal Fish & Wildlife Service as Wildlife Sanctuary. Bald Eagles are a common sight from the house.
This two story home has a wrap-around deck with a dozen comfortable wicker chairs from to enjoy breath taking views of Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, Little charity Island just 3 miles south is always in view from the porch.
Enjoy exploring three miles of natural shoreline on the Island. Song Birds are abundant.
Island Wildlife includes Fox, Mink, raccoons, chipmunks, three bald eagles nests , dozens of swans, geese, woodducks and in the fall Snowy Owls are often sighted.
Various Wildflowers are abundant through out the season. In addition, World Class fishing surrounds the island and can be enjoyed from a dock at in the small Island marina located 10 minutes from the house or wading off the rocky shoreline in front of the home.
The home is available to be rented from May 2nd through to the early November and in
-cludes all linens, appliances, ect Add $350 for Round Trip Transportation. Departures can
be arranged from Caseville or Au Gres Michigan
Other Amenities include – Fire pit on beach, gas grill on Deck, TV, Radio, Cd player.
There is a 3 day minimum.
On Weekends a Dinner Cruise boat arrives at 5:00 pm with 30 - 40 guests who will dine at the Island Dining Pavilon which is located on the grounds of the Lighkeepers home – Dinner Cruises are “ weather permitting” and all Dinner cruise guests are gone after 3 hours ( 8- 8:30pm)More details on the trip can be obtained at (www.charityisland.net)
Lighthouse Guests may dine free of Charge with the Dinner Cruise people.
There are no Dinner Cruises Sunday through Fridays so it is recommended you plan your stay with that in Mind as Friday and Saturday evenings there will be 40 plus people arriving to spend three hours on the island on those days.
