|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Indulge yourself in a luxury cottage getaway with private entrance, pool and spa, tucked away in a quaint Uptown neighborhood close to St. Charles Ave. streetcar, Magazine St. Shopping, Audubon Park and Zoo, the best restaurants New Orleans has to offer, and just off the Mardi Gras parade route!
'Ginny's Cottage' is situated behind the main house built circa 1900. Guests have full access to the private pool and hot tub/spa. In the room is a refrigerator stocked with water, juices, and soft drinks, as well as single-serve sizes of cereals. On Saturdays and Sundays French pastries are available.
Originally from San Antonio, TX, I moved to New Orleans in 1999 when I married my college sweetheart, Jim. My friends and family call me Susie. I work full-time in the legal industry, but I like to balance it out with operating our little B&B. My passions are early morning runs, browsing through antique shops, really good Mexican food, and a glass of Cabernet.
I love the fact that I live in a city where everyone else wants to spend their vacation, and I also love the fact that we can offer our cottage to our guests to make that vacation a memorable one!
Carolyn (Susie) Rumsfeld purchased this cottage in 1997
Jim fell in love with the main house because of the black & white floors. I fell in love with the 1900 Victorian architecture, and knew I had found the perfect home for my antiques. We are one of the very few in the neighborhood to have a private driveway -- a huge plus. Most all of the homes around us are over 100 years old.
We decided to build a deck and guesthouse in our backyard after Hurricane Katrina when it was proven that our neighborhood was worth keeping. We were among 10 percent of the city that did not flood. And today our city has come back stronger and more prosperous than ever. We named our little getaway 'Ginny's Cottage' after Jim's mom who insisted on staying out there whenever she'd come for a visit. And our little cottage has continued to be a perfect retreat for friends, family, and strangers alike!
There are so many great things unique to this location. We are walking distance to St. Charles Ave. and the streetcar line. We're four short blocks to Magazine St. with all of its restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Audubon Zoo and park are less than two miles away. The famous Prytania movie theater, which is the last surviving privately owned single-screen theater is less than a mile from the house. And during Mardi Gras, we are literally ground zero, where the parades roll two short blocks from our front gate. And yet, when you enter our property and walk through the private gate to the back to 'Ginny's Cottage' and the pool and spa, you are completely removed from it all and surrounded with total privacy. Who could ask for anything more?
My husband and I came to NOLA for a family wedding in mid-March, and we rented Ginny's Cottage for that Thursday-Sunday. Susie and Jim were unfailingly polite and helpful. The cottage was cozy and well-stocked with fresh fruits, bagels, soda, milk, jam, coffee, and other unexpected delights. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean and well-kept. The only thing we missed was a closet in which to hang our clothes, but there was a coat rack that was conveniently stocked with hangers, so we used that, and it worked out just great! We did not get a chance to use the pool or hot tub, but both looked clean, well-maintained and very inviting. In fact, the entire property was so charming with the gas-lamps and the aromatic trees and flowers, it was enchanting! One last thing: when we called a cab to get to the wedding, the cab did not show up. It was St. Patrick's Day weekend, and one parade had just ended while another was about to begin, so cabs were having difficulty navigating, I think. Susie so graciously offered to drive us, and we made it on time, despite the fact that she had to go way out of the way around the FQ because of the parade!
This cottage is so conveniently located to St. Charles Ave (where you can catch the streetcar) and Magazine St. (full of fun shopping and restaurants), it was the perfect place for us. We do hope to visit again!
Perfect location for Mardi Gras or any other trip to New Orleans. Beautiful neighborhood, convenient to St. Charles Streetcar or Magazine Street bus. Private hideaway stocked with fresh fruit, flowers, travel info, chocolates! Gracious, helpful hosts in relaxed surroundings. Couldn't ask for more or be more central to everything wonderful in New Orleans!
The unit was incredibly quiet, well stocked, clean and very nice. The pics do not really do it justice. The location was perfect, we walked out of the front gate and down a few blocks to the streetcar and saw pretty much all of the things we wanted to see in New Orleans. The hosts were very friendly and informative as well and we never heard a peep from them unless we needed something. (To be honest I think you two should take better pics of your property to post on here, again, the ones you have are not up to snuff!) If you want a cool sanctuary in New Orleans this is it! (The flickering of the gas lamps from the main house and the sound of the hot tub humming put me to sleep in like 20 seconds lol)
This cottage was the perfect place for a relaxing getaway for me and my girlfriend. We enjoyed being able to easily walk to Magazine and check out everything there. We loved the hot tub and the privacy of the backyard and cottage area. Really enjoyed the food and snacks that were provided in the cottage. We would both love to come back and stay here again.
This truly is a perfect place for two adults who are looking to relax and unwind! Every detail of the cottage is been lovingly planned by the hosts for a relaxing stay. The courtyard, spa and pool add immensely to the ambiance! Close proximity to the StreetCar line, and to Magazine street give you lots of options in how you travel and explore the city and its neighborhoods. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back!
This cottage was the perfect spot for our trip to New Orleans! The cottage is charming, comfortable and cozy, and the back yard is beautiful and has everything you could wish for - a pool, hot tub, and multiple places to sit and unwind. The hosts are friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and made sure our stay was enjoyable and that we had anything we needed. Susie has thought of everything when stocking the cottage, bath and "kitchen closet!" The location is ideal - walking distance to Magazine St and only several blocks to the St Charles trolley line so we could easily get downtown, to the French Quarter, etc. The cottage was the perfect place to escape to after enjoying all the Big Easy has to offer...Quiet, romantic and private... We were close to everything but were able to relax and rest when at the cottage. The perfect balance of being close to everything and also feeling like we had escaped to our own private hideaway! Absolutely loved the cottage and can't wait to return! This is the only place we want to stay when we visit New Orleans!
