About Malinee

I was born and raised in the big city of Bangkok, Thailand. I went to college in the U.S. The first time I came to Hilo, Hawaii I was fascinated by the slow-pace, the tropical fruits, nice cool weather and the friendliest of people here. Hilo became my hometown. I can find lots of fresh exotic fruit from Asia like Rambutan, Lychee, Longan, Durian, Mangosteen and etc. Luckily we do not have snakes! Hopefully, you will love my hometown like I do.

Malinee purchased this house in 2013

Why Malinee chose Hilo

I fell in love with the house which was built by a Japanese craftsman. It is spacious with a nice kitchen and dinning area. I have had great fun refurbishing it. The view of the stream from the house is spectacular. I know that you will enjoy it as well.

What makes this house unique

We love the natural stream and would like to share the relaxing and the soothing sound of the brook with everyone. You will be able to unwind from your busy days as the property is very quiet, relaxing and comfortable.

Great vacation rental - desirable location, clean and comfortable, awesome landlord

  • 5 of 5

This trip was my first trip to Hilo (and Hawaii) and I was very nervous going through vrbo for a vacation rental. I wasn't familiar with the location and did not know what to expect. This house and the landlord exceeded my expectations and provided such a great experience that I am looking forward to going back soon. The house is centrally located about a ten minute car ride to downtown Hilo and any other attractions you might want to see (the zoo, the macadamia nut farm, the big island candy factory). Not only is the location great, but the house is clean and comfortable. I typically hate traveling because I feel uncomfortable in hotel rooms/rental houses but staying here was like staying at my own home. There is hardwood floors through, a beautiful lanai to sip your morning coffee and listen to the rain and/or stream in the backyard, spacious bedrooms, and clean bathrooms. We were given plenty of towels, heated blankets for chilly Hilo nights, and a welcome basket. The landlord was there to greet us when we got there and offered to let us stay longer because our flight was at 9 pm. I am so glad I rented this property, I don't think my stay in Hilo would have been as enjoyable if I hadn't.

Perfect vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We were eager to stay in our vacation home based on the pictures of the property. The actual home far exceeds what the pictures represent. We met the owner shorter after our arrival and received a true Hawaiian welcome. The home had so many little extras such as fresh fruit, flowers, macadamia nuts, all kitchen supplies, extra toiletries, beach equipment and towels, etc. Just sitting outside on the lanai having breakfast and listening to the spring which runs through the property was so peaceful. The neighborhood and surrounding homes are beautiful and a good proximity from downtown Hilo. My daughter and family live nearby which made it very convenient. When we are able to go back for a visit I will definitely want to stay in this home. Thank you so much for what was a perfect trip. Mahalo

Excellent Property, location, and Property Owner

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough about how much we LOVED the home, amenities, and the property owner. We had a few issues with figuring out the TV & the owner was so very gracious to accommodate us - we finally got it. We arrived & had fresh cut flowers in the living room and bathrooms & a bowl of fresh fruit. We even had shampoos & conditioners & sunblock. We had a GREAT TIME and would absolutely recommend this property & location & would stay again if given the need & opportunity!!! We came to attend the 52nd Merrie Monarchs Festival with our Hula teacher & it was actually better watching it on the TV - that I would not attend that event again - but most certainly stay in Hilo (where my mother & her family grew up). It was a very precious time for me. ALOHA~~

Beautiful property... Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We were a visiting group from Oahu during the week of the Merrie Monarch Festival, and this property was a gem! It is located just minutes from downtown Hilo, and is central to Hilo and its environs. The home was well appointed and immaculate. Although we did not meet the owners, we were welcomed with delicious goodies from Big Island Candies ... an added treat. One of the best things about this property was the beautiful landscaping and stream that runs through it. The one downside at the time of rental was the age limitation of children which I see has now changed. Luckily our children just reached the age limit so they could enjoy & explore the stream. This property was a wonderful home away from home, and would definitely be recommended to friends and family!

A Little Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are from Spokane, WA. We have rented this property for 2 1/2 months. It is located on a quiet dead end street 10 minutes from downtown Hilo. The owners who live across the street are a joy to deal with. They are very attentive to our needs and comfort. The property and grounds are immaculate. The place is tastefully furnished and the kitchen is well equipped. The highlight is a covered lanai where we eat our breakfast and dinner while watching tropical birds and listening to a year round babbling brook. Truly a little piece of paradise.

Not to be missed! Best "home base" for exploring the island!

  • 5 of 5

Home well prepared as vacation rental. Roomy and comfortable for all 7 of us. Fantastic landscaping with gorgeous stream running through the property. The backyard was perfect for a picnic. Our kids caught small fish and crawfish in the backyard - catch & release :)

Quiet and peaceful neighborhood, on a dead-end street, yet super easy commute to downtown Hilo. We found this location perfect as a home base for exploring the island. The "saddle" road between Hilo and Kona (KOA airport) is finally finished making a wide easy road to travel. Anyone who braves California freeways will find the trip quick and easy.

Weather was normal for Hilo, with sun for some or most of every day, yet pleasant warm rains fun to play in. So much nicer than the too hot and too dry Kona side of the island. Altitude was excellent, and factoring in the scarcity of mosquitoes made this Hilo home much preferred over other locations we've visited.

Just as other reviewers mentioned, our exemplary hostess was so friendly and helpful that our kids began calling her "Auntie" :)

Our only regret was how fast two weeks zipped by. Looking forward to our next trip, especially now that we don't have to hunt for a vacation rental.
