This is a beautiful two-bedroom bungalow on stilts in the beachfront community, 'Hermosa Bungalows.' Located directly behind a full-size pool with views to the Pacific Ocean, and a short barefoot walk of less than 100 yards to a beautiful black sand beach with outstanding surf. Our bungalow is fully stocked to make your stay a truly memorable vacation. We take pride in offering our home as a welcome retreat for families with children, couples on an adventurous getaway, wedding parties or anniversary celebrations, and travelers who appreciate a home as a better option than a hotel room. You can't beat staying in this 1000 square foot home compared to a hotel!
The bungalow features two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two twins (that can be modified into an additional queen bed), and a queen sofa-bed in the living room. A portacrib is also available for infants. The kitchen is large and completely stocked with amenities. The bathroom has been completely expanded and remodeled with a large vanity and mirror as well as a large shower, with intricate mosaic tiles on the walls and vanity. Our bungalow has an additional water filtration system and tank to ensure clean water for our guests, an important feature during the rainy season! An extensive double-layer river rock leach field drainage system was recently installed to ensure adequate and rapid irrigation and drainage for the bathroom. The interior furniture is custom-made from native woods and there are bamboo black-out blinds throughout for ultimate privacy and for those who like to sleep in!
As with any property near the beach, it is important to maintain it with regular and frequent upkeep. So throughout 2012 we have made several UPGRADES to improve our guests' experiences:
Exterior and interior REPAINTING.
REFINISHED the interior wood floors.
Replaced exterior balcony wood floors with new native hardwood.
Added in-home WIFI with private password for our guests' use.
NEW CUSHIONS on all the couches and chairs.
New FLAT SCREEN TV in living room.
Replaced surf board racks.
Refinished storage locker for guests' suitcases and gear.
Replaced balcony ceiling with durable weather-proof material.
Reinforced balcony railings.
Complete bathroom remodel.
Reinforced the master bed frame.
Built-in stone BBQ
Also, in order to enhance your vacation experience, our on-site manager, Brian, (from California) provides assistance with making your stay at Bungalow 14 a vacation to remember!
You can enjoy great views from the expansive balcony which is furnished with rocking chairs and an outdoor dining table, or from the hammock facing the pool from our balcony. The pool is directly in front of the bungalow so there is a combined pool/ocean view during the day, and at night we're the ONLY rental bungalow in the complex with the lighted pool completely in front of our balcony.
Ecotourism and surfing are huge attractions to this part of Costa Rica, and the beach directly in front of our bungalow complex is one of the best on the Pacific, with the 'Almendro Tree' landmark as a well-known surf location. The water is always warm, and surfboard rentals are readily available. The ISA world surf competitions at Playa Hermosa are within walking distance from our bungalow.
Tropical birds and iguanas are frequent sightings from the bungalow, and macaws are often heard and seen flying overhead in the late afternoon. A wildlife estuary is adjacent to the bungalows and is a dream location for birdwatchers. Large sea turtles are known to come up on the beach to lay eggs, and a turtle expert who lives down the road often has night tours to view the turtles.
Incredible wildlife is also seen at Manuel Antonio National Park, less than an hour drive south. There you may see white-faced capuchin monkeys, sloths, koatis, iguanas, and several bird species. The Carara National Park is only a 20-minute drive to our north. It is a sanctuary for wild scarlet macaws, and toucans are also seen there. Self-guided tours as well as hired guides can be taken at both parks.
The town of Jacó is a 5-minute drive to the north, where you can find restaurants, bars, surf shops, and markets. Excursions (ie. ATV, rafting) can be arranged by our manager. Fishing, boating, and snorkeling trips are available from the marina by the Marriott Los Suenos 5 minutes north of Jacó. The Marriott also has an excellent golf course. You can't leave Costa Rica without taking a canopy (zip-line) tour, one of the most exhilarating experiences you will ever have. Yes, you will fly through the jungle with just a harness and a cable!
We welcome you to our home and know that you will be amazed by the beauty of Costa Rica!!!

We live in the Laguna Beach area of Orange County, California. Along with our 2 sons, we use it as our second home. It is truly a restful and fun get-away from the busy work and school lives that we lead. We hope that you enjoy your vacation and feel welcome in our home.
Dave purchased this bungalow in 2003
We are the original owners of this wonderful bungalow. We purchased it during the construction phase when the pool was just a hole in the ground! It is a wonderful location in the bungalow complex, directly behind the pool with a view to the ocean. Playa Hermosa is a quiet beach town 5 minutes south of the busy town of Jaco, so we feel it is a perfect location to be in nature but close to a town for nightlife and excursions.
The Costa Rica experience means relaxation and natural beauty! We know you will love our Hermosa Paradise home! You will hear tropical birds, see iguanas everywhere, and feel the power of the Pacific Ocean at a beautiful black sand beach less than 200 yards from the bungalow. Sitting on the balcony, you can enjoy the beauty of the pool and feel the ocean breeze.
This Costa Rican bungalow is nothing short of paradise. My friends and I were depressed that we had to leave. It was hands down the most amazing vacation of my life. The beach is steps away from the bungalow and is great for surfing and swimming(experienced swimmers only). Beautiful sunsets are right at your disposal every night as well. There is so much to do if you take the short ride into Jaco. I would recommend this bungalow to young travelers, families, and retiring folks.
This is the 3rd year in a row that my husband and I have stayed in Bungalow 14 at Hermosa Beach Bungalows in Costa Rica. We absolutely love our February vacation every year in Costa Rica, so much so that we keep adding on days and book our favorite bungalow 14 right after we leave for the following year. Bungalow 14 is centrally located with the pool just yards from your door and the beach is just a short walk across the beach. The bungalow has all the amenities you could want, a full kitchen, dishwasher, washer/dryer. A water cooler with drinkable water. The bungalow was recently redecorated and has 2 bedrooms. The bathroom is brand new with excellent water pressure in the shower. There is a nice porch in the front of the bungalow with a hammock and chairs where one can lounge or sit and eat. My husband and I highly recommend this bungalow. The staff is also very helpful with what every your needs are.
This is the second time we have stayed at this bungalow and it certainly won’t be the last. I cannot imagine a more perfect location from which to enjoy the Playa Hermosa surf, visit the local attractions or just unwind. The bungalow is perfectly maintained, decorated beautifully and has everything we needed and more. This could easily be a permanent home. The front porch has a hammock and overlooks the pool area directly in front making it perfect for families with children. No insects to worry about – just a bunch of colorful and talkative birds. The air conditioning and ceiling fans allowed us to sleep in perfect comfort. This trip I brought my 16 year old son, who surfed Playa Hermosa at least 8 hours every day while I went for long runs on the black sand beach, read books in the hammock and practiced my photography. The bungalow is a very easy 1.5 hour car ride from the airport in San Jose (we rented a car) and is close to all kinds of great restaurants (loved Vista Hermosa the best). There is an excellent grocery store just north of Jaco (Auto Mercado in Herandura) which is just as nice and well stocked as any US store. To top it all off, the property manager (Twinka) is a real joy—she made sure that every detail was perfect for us, arranging a private surfing lesson (she can do much more) and even organizing a pool side New Year’s Eve party. We are looking at our schedule now to see when we can return!
Our family of four just returned from a week's stay in this beautiful bungalow. What a special setting and great community! The bungalow itself is beautifully decorated in tasteful neutrals with pops of tropical color, all done with taste and elegance. The water in the bungalow got nice and hot and lasted for all our showers, with great pressure. The air conditioners and ceiling fans kept us perfectly comfortable, when needed. There were plenty of towels (both bath and beach) and the washer/dryer were convenient, with a single use package of detergent already provided. We used the kitchen a lot, and found it well stocked in regards to tools and tableware. There were many DVDs to watch, as well as some games and books to enjoy, which was fun. The little table in the kitchen was the perfect size for our family to gather around for a meal or a game. Nice large refrigerator for storing drinks and groceries.
The deck was a wonderful spot to spend the afternoon and this specific bungalow was a the best location for parents who want to keep an eye on their kids in the pool. With a direct line of vision down on the pool area, it allows you to remain on the deck or doing things in the bungalow, all while keeping an eye on your children. Twinka, the on site property manager, was incredibly delightful and helpful. She was always present, often spending a late afternoon sitting by the pool to chat, to seek guidance and advice for excursions and was great with booking reservations for us. She is a tremendous asset to the little bungalow community.
Resident animals delighted us from birds singing, iguanas sunning and the friendliest of dogs frolicking. The beach is such a treasure and what a privilege to stay in such proximity to this peaceful and special spot. Great sand and water temperatures entice you to walk and walk and enjoy the breeze. Of course, highly desired spot for surfing, and while surfers are there, the beach still feels empty and peaceful. Where others have to drive to this destination, you are right there.
We visited Jaco, a few minutes away, several times for groceries, dining, and shopping. We enjoyed many excursions and loved coming "home" to this bungalow. Our daughter, who can be uncomfortable when traveling and away from home, stated this was "her favorite vacation ever." She felt so comfortable in the setting and the people were all so nice. Now I need to learn to surf and go back!
We recently had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica to celebrate the upcoming High School graduation of our son. My husband, two teenage boys, and I had the pleasure to staying in the bungalows.
My family is well traveled but this was our first visit to Costa Rica. It may have been the most enjoyable and relaxing vacation we have ever taken as a family. We loved everything: the weather, the wild life, the beautiful and friendly Costa Rican people, and, oh yeah, the food. Our accommodations were perfect; it felt like home right from the start. The bungalow had all the amenities we could hope for, even for us spoiled Americans, including a flat screen TV, which I must say even with two teenage boys, we never tuned on once. Twinka, the property manager, took care of everything including stocking our kitchen with all the necessities: wine for our first sunset on the beach and all the supplies for breakfast the next morning.
We immediately settled into a routine of rising early with the sounds of nature, preparing wonderful Costa Rican coffee and taking a walk on the beach. To our surprise, our boys joined us almost every morning. Our days were full of adventures, including surfing, ATV tours, zip lining over the canopy… There was so much to do in either walking distance or a short drive away. In the afternoons we found ourselves relaxing by the pool and taking turns selecting a restaurant for dinner; we ate really well. Each evening over dinner, our conversations were animated, recollecting the adventures of the day. We spent an entire week discovering Costa Rica and enjoying each other.
This was a wonderful vacation for our family and will always be a fond memory as we see our son off to college next fall. We are eternally grateful to our hosts for sharing their home. We can’t wait to come back and would recommend it highly. The one thing we wish we did differently: STAY LONGER!!!
My girlfriend and I stayed in the bungalows for a month in 2011 and wished it could have been extended! The homeowners were more than hospitable for renting us their bungalow. The place is their second home and it was kept as such. It was a wonderful getaway and "home away from home" for our month vacation. Property managers were more than accommodating with trips/excursions and providing transportation to and from Jaco. Also treated us like family by inviting us into their home for Thanksgiving and other festivities. Everyone in the community of bungalows were very nice and helpful being that the majority of them were from the United States. The location of the bungalows were in close proximity to world class surf and great nightlife/restaurants in Jaco. The location of the pool in the center of all the bungalows was great to meet with other guests and enjoy relaxing yoga. Everything we were looking for in our vacation was fulfilled at the Hermosa Beach Bungalows. We cannot say enough about this place and we will definitely recommend it to our friends and families. We loved it so much we are planning another trip back soon!
World-class surfing at Playa Hermosa directly in front of complex, Stunning Sunsets, White-water Rafting, Canopy ('zip line') tours, Turtle expeditions, ATV tours, hangliding, impressive bird watching and wildlife, rainforest parks nearby at Manuel Antonio and Carara National Parks, 15 min drive from 18-hole golf at Marriott Los Suenos where marina is also available for deep sea fishing, jet ski, and scuba.
