The rental lodging on Broken Leg Ranch is comprised of three, 1000 square foot luxury cabins and a 3200 square foot main house. Each of the cabins and the main house may be separately rented. The rental rate for the cabins is $350/night. The rental rate for the main house is $450/night. The Ranch was purchased in 2003 and construction was completed in 2006. The Ranch has been faithfully restored and has been used as a private family retreat by the owner. The owner's primary residence, Rainbow Lodge, is located 3 miles from the Ranch. Each of the Ranch's luxury cabins is approximately 1000 sq. ft. and contain one king-size bedroom, bath and a queen sleeper sofa. Each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, fulll size washer and dryer as well as high speed internet and cable T.V. The main house is located at the gated entrance to the Ranch and contains over 3000 square feet on 3 levels, with 3 bedrooms (including a large luxury master suite) and 2 1/2 baths. A gourmet chef's kitchen is located just off the spacious living/dining area. A professional cycling shop is located next to the main house and adjacent to a large working organic gardening operation that is the pride of Broken Leg Ranch. Guests are welcome to help out in the garden with daily chores and may also choose to harvest and enjoy the wide selection of vegetables, lettuces, corn, beans and berries!! The Ranch donates healthy, organic food to a variety of worthwhile endeavors throughout the local area. In keeping with the health and fitness theme at the Ranch, we offer a state-of-the-art, 3000 square foot fitness facility which contains Pilates, Gyrotonic and cardio equipment such as treadmill, rower and elliptical trainer. Private fitness and yoga sessions are available upon request. World class fly fishing is available in the Swan River adjoining the Ranch as well as on the numerous lakes and ponds in the surrounding area and in Glacier Park. The owner can arrange private and guided fishing and rafting trips. A private chef is available upon request.
David and Karen Lail purchased Broken Leg Ranch in 2003 with the intention of restoring the old Montana homestead to it's original 'Western' theme while discreetly incorporating the latest in modern amenities. The Ranch has been used as a private retreat for the Owner's friends and family and has never before been available to the public. The Owners used authentic Western building materials and had several barns dating from the 1800's deconstructed so that the original building materials could be used in new construction on the Ranch. The project's blacksmith created the ironwork used throughout and on-site cabinetmakers constructed the kitchen cabinets and countertops from reclaimed barnwood and even floorboards from the first drugstore in Montana !! The fitness facility is constructed as an old fashioned horse barn.

A healthy and peaceful retreat ...perfect for hiking, fishing and outdoor adventure in the lap of Western luxury !! The views of the Swan Mountains from the meadow in the middle of the Ranch and from the front porches of the cabins are simply stunning...We love to garden , stay fit and eat healthy and it's all there at Broken Leg Ranch.
We just returned from spending 5 unforgettable days at Broken Leg Ranch. The spectacular accommodations were comfortable and quiet, and after a warm welcome by David, the owner, we instantly felt at home. David made sure we knew where to eat, where to bike, where to fish and where to swim. He offered to put us in touch with his fly-fishing guide and pilates instructor and gave us spot-on advice for visiting Glacier National Park. We enjoyed great bike rides into the unspoiled landscape on the ranches’ high-end bikes, ate organic fruits and vegetables from the ranches’ garden, and worked out in Broken Leg Ranches’ most-impressive gym that had every imaginable machine, including gyrotronics and TRX and anything else you could dream up. Barbeques, a fire pit, a tee-pee in the back yard, every game imaginable (board games, wii, billiards, etc.) - you name it, they have it, as well as an impressive selection of books, magazines, and movies to enjoy during the occasional Montana rainstorm, and an extensive collection of antiques and classic books.....David has thought of every last detail. Every morning and evening brought a steady stream of visitors, if you count deer and wild turkey. We also enjoyed fishing, canoeing and paddle-boarding in nearby Swan Lake where our daughter caught her first fish - a 14-inch rainbow trout. While there are probably many ranches with nice accommodations and unspoiled landscapes, we doubt that there are any that compare in terms of friendliness, comfort, tranquility and luxury. This was our first trip to Broken Leg Ranch, but it won’t be our last!
My family and I stayed at the lovely Broken Leg this summer. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place. The owner, David, was very gracious providing access to the ranch amenities (great gym, organic garden for cooking, grill and teepee) and making the stay as nice as possible for the kids and my wife. Minutes from quaint Big Fork, Flathead Lake and about 35 miles south of Glacier National Park.
David really made our stay enjoyable and this ranch really highlights how peaceful and beautiful Montana can be. The property has many animals that cross (deer, wild turkeys, coyotes in the distance). Great fun for kids and adults alike.
Great fun if you are looking for activity (Montana is loaded with possibilities) or simply looking to relax in a stunning western ranch with nice up-to-date cabins. It is a lovely location and great place to stay.

My family was lucky enough to stay at the Broken Leg Ranch for six days. I can't say enough good things about the ranch. The minute we drove in, we knew this was going to be an experience we would never forget. We stayed in one of the cabins which exceeded our expectations- it was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed and more. The king bed was so comfortable and you could tell that David and Karen put a lot of thought into all of the furnishings and decorations.
My husband and I would sit on the large porch in the morning drinking our coffee and looking out over the fields. Our daughters called it our "best vacation ever" and enjoyed swimming and kayaking in the nearby pristine Swan Lake. The gym was great and well equipped for our workout needs and has a fabulous view of the Swan mountain range. Located near BigFork, it was an easy day trip to Glacier National Park. David was a gracious host who made us feel comfortable from the moment we went through the front gate of his ranch. We're coming back!
Staying at the Ranch was an experience we will never forget.
We stayed on the Fourth of July, and let me start by saying the Parade in the town of Big Fork was fantastic.
From the Old Steamed Fire Engines, to lot's of children waving the American Flag.
It reminded us from something out of Mayberry.
Fishing at nearby Loon Lake and Flathead Lake was a great experience as well.
Rafting and Hiking in Glacier National Park was something I got to take off my bucket list.
The cabins exceed perfection and detail.
All the amenities and then some are at your finger tips.
We definitely are planning our next trip and look forward to coming back to this humble, serene Ranch.
I stayed here with my whole family 2 years ago; I was sick with a flu, so I wasn't really up for fully enjoying everything Karen and David had to offer in the way of entertainment. So, take the illness into account when I say that even with this holding me down, their place was the biggest piece of heaven any American could experience. From the grandeur of a luxury log cabin, lakefront property to authentic teepees on everyone's property! But the ultimate of all ultimates is when night falls and your eyes float to the sky. For all time, when I think of Montana, I close my eyes and remember the magnificeint night sky. It is the experience of being in the center of a galaxy. I mean it, I am not exagerating....a galaxy, complete with many shooting star sightings! Enjoy!
This property is one of the most gorgeous I have seen and stayed in! Everything is absolutely immaculate, comfy and cozy, exceptional quality with attention to every little detail! Very clean and well kept. The gym is unbelievable! I would highly recommend this ranch! I plan to go back many times. It is a fantastic place to visit! The town of Big Fork is just wonderful, Flathead Lake is beautiful, along with the grandeur of the Glacier Mountains. You can't find a more perfect place to take a wonderful vacation!

Additionally, the Ranch is located just 5 miles from Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. The beautifully clear Swan River runs behind the Ranch and fishing access lies just out the main gate...a fly fisherman's paradise, the river is teeming with Rainbow Trout. Cycling opportunities abound and world class road biking and mountain biking trails are accessed directly from the entrance to Broken Leg Ranch. In fact, the Ranch has a private Bike Shop available to guests. The Ranch also has a 3000 square foot , state of the art fitness facility complete with Pilates, Gyrotonic and cardio equipment. Private sessions are available. Hiking trails lead directly from the Ranch.
