Chicago House Rental Photos and Description

5 Bedroom, 5 Bathroom & 1-Car Attached Garage

Exceptional 3700sf Brownstone (sleeps 8-14) located in a Chicago's charming Lincoln Park historical neighborhood.

We’ve previously rented vacation homes in Wisconsin and Nantucket for use by our family and friends and we were disappointed with the availability of large rental homes close to downtown Chicago - although there are plenty of Condos. So, we recently acquired this historic home, which features various sleeping configurations for large multi-generational families on multiple floors, recently updated kitchen and baths, a lower level suite perfect for seniors or an au pair/nanny, 1-car indoor attached garage for parking, nearby parks, shopping and restaurants galore. Similar to our Boston Brownstone available at, this is a perfect residence for a large multi-generational family's vacation in Chicago, a wedding party's out-of-state relatives, a ladies shopping trip to Magnificent Mile, an executive's temporary assignment to Chicago, an executive attending a Master's Program at Loyola, Trade Show attendees/exhibitors, Chicago marathon runners, a Chef attending Le Cordon Bleu College or an actor during a role in a Chicago Broadway play or musical or in a Chicago filming.

Located at 2000 North Orleans, the residence is located only a short 1-block stroll east to Chicago's historic Lincoln Park (home of the Lincoln Park Zoo and from mid-May a Farmer's Market every Wednesday and Saturday during through Fall) and is about a mile from the famed-North End of Chicago's Magnificent Mile of Michigan Avenue shopping and restaurants.

Nearyby Restaurants include Home of Wrigley Field's StanBurger, Stanley's Bar & Grill, an Original House of Pancakes for a big breakfast, famous for its BBQ Baby Back Ribs is Twin Anchors, but nearby Four Farthings has awesome ribs as well as wonderfully large portions of Italian fare, Trattoria Ricardo's has great Italian as well, on Halsted is Rustic House (a well-kept secret) and Summer House both serving great American fare. Next door to our home is a great Thai restaurant, Geja's upscale Fondue style restaurant and a Subway for a quick casual sandwich. A block away is Mello's for great Italian Beef, Italian Sausage and Combo Sandwiches - guaranteed to fill you up!

In addition, our vacation home is about 1.5 miles to Chicago's infamous intersection of State Street & Rush Avenue, home of the following great gastronmic experiences: Gibson's Steakhouse, Morton's Steakhouse, Tavern on Rush, Hugo's Frog Bar and Fish House, Carmine's Italian, RA Sushi, and Dublin's Irish Pub.

Check out the map and some of our recommendations by copying and pasting the following link to your web browser:

Street Level (Level 1) – (sleeps 6) Entry from 1-car garage off of Orleans Street. Or, enter from the front courtyard lower level entrance directly through the entrance is a Bedroom (King Bed & Sofa Sleeper) perfect for Seniors, Au Pair or Nanny, which has its own Full Bathroom. The Lower Level also includes another ensuite Full Bathroom and Bedroom (two TWIN beds which can be configured as a KING bed upon request). Each lower level bedroom has interior stairs to the next level up and between the two bedrooms is a hallway table with coffee maker and microwave.

Parlor Level (Level 2) - (sleeps 0-2) – Climb the front courtyard stairs to the Main Living Area including Living Room (with Queen Sofa Sleeper), Dining Room (Seats 10), Full Bathroom, and Kitchen and a Deck overlooking the tree terraced Orleans Street (with BBQ).

Third Floor (Level 3) - (sleeps 4-6) – Master Bedroom (King) with ensuite walk-in shower for two, and a Guest Bedroom (King) with ensuite Full Bathroom. Plus, there is a bonus library room with two Day Beds for extra sleeping requirements or simply an area to sit and converse.

Top Floor (Level 4) - small room with desk & printer with an access door to Roof Top Deck - enjoy the sun and views South to the panoramic City of Chicago skyline. If you stand on your tippy toes, you might see Lake Michigan to the East... Plus, it has patio furniture, BBQ & Fridge.

NOTE: The City of Chicago licenses short-term vacation rental properties and collects a 16.4% 'Hospitality Tax.' The licensing process includes a physical inspection of the property. Following our renovations, we have secured our City of Chicago license #2340328. Please become knowledgeable regarding the risks involved of renting an unlicensed vacation home.

About Tim Hyland

We love to travel as empty-nesters and spend time with our extended families and friends. Although we primarily live in Scottsdale, Arizona, we love spending time in Chicago and Boston, so we acquired brownstones in both cities to enjoy ourselves and to share with others.

Tim Hyland purchased this house in 2014

Why Tim Hyland chose Chicago

With my parents, sisters, spouses, nieces and nephews and the three of us (my wife and I and our son John), there are 14 of us total. We were unable to find a large short-term rental home in a convenient Chicago area that could sleep all of us comfortably, so we acquired this perfect property furnished it to do just that - just awaiting our City of Chicago vacation rental license.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location. Just a block from Chicago's historic Lincoln Park and a mile from the North End of the Magnificent Mile shopping district on Michigan Avenue, the location is perfect! You will not be disappointed!

Amazing elegant brownstone

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect home to celebrate my birthday with my sisters and friends. The kitchen was exceptionally well stocked with dinnerware to host a beautiful dinner, the home was immaculate, and we enjoyed all the patios and outdoor living areas. It was an amazing brownstone with spacious rooms and bathrooms.

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

This place was super well-equipped and convenient, just steps to public transportation, and we enjoyed being able to pop across the street to CVS for quick items. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance, or use the well-equipped kitchen. We had our groceries delivered via Peapod since we didn't get a rental car. I'm a big stickler on the comfort of beds, and these beds were very comfy. The layout and photos were accurate, and the place was very clean. We would stay here again. The stairs are very steep between floors, luckily no one in our group was too young or old for this to be an issue (youngest was 6yo). If you do bring a car, note that the garage is super small and will not fit an SUV (a friend visited in her Suburban and there was no way it would fit, luckily we found street parking a couple blocks away). The hosts have really thought of everything that one would need and we felt very comfortable there, we would return. Thank you!

BEAUTIFUL home in a great location!!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in this luxurious brownstone with family and friends while in Chicago for a wedding followed up by an early Thanksgiving celebration. "Elegant" was the term used by a few friends who came to join us for "Thanksgiving". While the home is elegant and beautiful, it is also very spacious and comfortable with a layout that suits large groups really well. Our group included our grandsons, ages 6 and almost 3, and unlike some places we've stayed that fit the above description, this rental worked well for small children, though the steep staircases would be a concern for certain ages and children more inclined to tempting danger. We used every bed in the house, and all worked out well. 5 beautiful, nicely equipped bathrooms also gave us the privacy and convenience of separate quarters, while having the large kitchen, dining and living areas allowed us to come together.

Thanksgiving was a food extravaganza, and though we did have to borrow or buy a few items for the preparation, the kitchen itself was a gem and well supplied in many areas. It did appear that staying in the home during a different season would be wonderful for barbecuing-- it seems very well equipped for that type of cooking, with great outdoor living space. The wine frig was a real bonus, and the Wolfe range and large refrigerator made preparing a large meal in a strange kitchen work pretty well. The large dining room table served us well. The laundry room was also well equipped.

The location was fantastic for access to restaurants and everything we needed. Everyone who stayed in the house went to the Lincoln Park zoo at least once... only blocks away, a terrific zoo and FREE!! We rented one car so the grandkids could be in carseats and in order to accommodate our grocery shopping for Thanksgiving. The garage fit the small SUV fine, though getting in and out of the garage can be a little tricky depending on how cars on the street are parked. Otherwise, we mostly used public transportation, which was quite easy to do.

Our two dinners out were at Riccardo's Trattoria and Rustic House & both were excellent!

The owner was wonderful to work with... very responsive and helpful from the time we started inquiring about the property through our departure and return home. We did need to contact the housekeeping manager, and she was also very responsive and helpful.

Would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for rental to accommodate a large group visiting Chicago!

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

Eleven family members, ranging in age from 14 to 65, stayed at this beautiful property over Thanksgiving. The home is incredibly spacious and well-appointed. There was even room for all of us to eat together at the dining room table. As soon as I arrived home from Chicago, I submitted a request to rent the home again next year.

This home is newly renovated with beautiful high end finish outs. The property was very clean and comfortable. The private outdoor spaces are perfect for grilling/ dining/ and for kids. The location is great with several bars, restaurants, and a CVS just outside. Lincoln Park is right around the corner perfect for the kids. The owner is readily available for questions and information via email/cell phone.

Beautiful home. Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

This is a gorgeous, well-appointed rental in a perfect location for a visit to Chicago. The owner is responsive and accommodating. The house has everything you would want in a rental and it's all run very professionally. The instructions for entry and departure were uncomplicated. A perfect place for 10 college friends to reunite after 20 years! (Or any gathering of friends and family!) Lots of space for everyone to have privacy and gather together as they wish. Wonderful private outside areas. We left the kids at home, but if you had small kids you would just want to watch out for staircases and large (period) floor vents. Thanks, Tim!
