Our villa is located about 7-8 minutes by taxi outside of town ona peninsula with a lagoon on one side and a beach on the other side of our main house. On the lagoon side we have a dock that is easily accessible from the Puerto Isla Mujeres marina.
The luxury of our garden guesthouse is an air conditioned 9'foot ceiling studio with Mexicann artwork, a kingsize bed, fully equipped kitchette, television, internet and garden patio.
Unique and inviting, Casita Perla, named for the owners mother is just a short walk around the main house, past the outdoor shower, to the beach.
Inviting and private.
We started our adventure here in 1972 and have continued to love our little piece of paradise for all these years.
Steve Lehrer purchased this cottage in 1975
You will know after 30 seconds exactly why we are still in love with our home, location and views when you arrive.
Enjoyed our stay tremendously. Steve and Lindell are great hosts. They are there if you need them but not intrusive. The cottage was very comfortable, clean, and just perfect for quiet time in a beautiful setting. Can't say enough about the landscaping, pristine. You can tell that much pride is taken and they really want you to feel at home. Rented a golf cart from the caretaker's family, fair price and delivered to us, no hassles. Met 3 other couples who were staying there also. They gave us some barracuda to cook in our little kitchen. Everything is there that you need to have a great time! All that is needed is you!! Lovely, just lovely!
We came for a few days at short notice and really stumbled on a gem; staying at Steve and Lindell's guest house. The photos don't do the place justice, and could not translate the warm and friendly welcome we received. It really feels like home away from home.
The palapa is just that - grass roofed structure that stays relatively cool even without the ac, although we did use the ac to sleep. There is everything you could need to cook simple meals although we mostly ate out other than breakfast. I had to work for an hour or so each day and the wireless was adequate to keep on touch via email, but didn't work for Skype (no biggy!). Water is provided, as are ice trays. There is a larger supermarket on the island - between the ferry and palapa - where you can stock up in essentials, and several tiny places that have other bits and pieces you might need.
The palapa is a ways out of town and somewhat off the beaten path which suited us really well. We rented a golf cart for our whole time, and loved the adventure of seeing different parts of the island on a whim. There are also taxis everywhere and within walking along the road for a couple of minutes there would be one by - but you might miss the little places along the way that you otherwise might stop into.
We enjoyed really great food - we love the local hole in the wall type restaurants serving the days catch on fresh corn tortillas, and didn't stray to much from that. For one afternoon we went to the Phoenix beach club on north beach and their green ceviche was incredible.
We would highly recommend sea hawk divers if you want to dive or snorkel - knowledgeable, friendly and fun.
The island feels very Mexican and authentic while also having a huge tourist presence - but when we took wrong turns on our golf cart (many of them!) there was not a moment I felt unsafe, even when I'd left the husband on a beach or getting his hair cut. The locals are consistently friendly and helpful and quick to return a smile.
This review would not be complete without mentioning the fabulous Carlos! He is a great massage therapist that came over and gave us massages on our little patio while we listened to the waves. Wonderful experience - and thank you so much to Steve and Lindell for setting that up and letting him use their massage table. Definitely ask for him if you come and stay - so relaxing and not expensive.
So tomorrow we say goodbye to this corner of paradise and it will be hard to leave.
