The Village, as it is often referred is a largely residential district with a unique identity that can be traced back to the 50’s when it was settled by artist, writers, and musician squatters. Although it has come a long way from its bohemian days it continues to have a special charm and artistic component. Everything about this area, from it’s of grid street layout to its history, to its architecture separates it from the rest of the city. It is where many New Yorkers come to escape. Take a short distance walk to Washington Square Park where you can enjoy some greenery. The neighborhood continues to attract an active art scenes that adds another element to be explored. Guestbook comments from the owner
This was an "ok" apt, in my opinion. It had such positives reviews, leading me to chose it, but overall, I ranked this a 2/5. Pros-the company managing the apt was very prompt & easy to communicate. Anastasia checked us in (and we arrived at 12:45 am),gave us a tour of apt, & made us feel welcome. Continuing on with pros, the kitchen was convenient, nice to have laundry right out in hallway (be aware-you have to purchase a card for $5 to use machine & the load it with $), nice to have doorman,we found off street parking on Thompson, good location, & apt was clean. Cons-false advertisement on the use of sofa bed (when open,no one can get to bathroom, & it was HORRIBLY uncomfortable-very thin mattress). So a 5th person can stay if they sleep on sofa, but not sofa mattress. The heat did not work (50 degrees inside) the first 48 hours we were there. We alerted the doorman over the wknd & on Monday morning, a service man fixed it. So, we bundled up anytime we were inside first 2 days. The apt layout does not lend itself to any type of communal feel. We like to chill at end if night in a family room setting & having 5 of us,there's only one couch facing TV in very small space. To be fair, I traveled with my friends a few months ago, rented a diff apt in west village, loved the vibe, loved being away from touristy stuff, loved having a kitchen. It was great. We travel as a family to NYC every November & stay near south Central Park & do all touristy stuff. I tried to replicate that with my husband & kids (the authentic apt vibe), but it was a fail. We ended up taxing up to FAO, Rockefeller, theatre district, Times Square, 5th Ave shopping. So, if your goal is to feel out of the bustle of the tourist areas & stay in a decent apt for 4, this place is for you. If your goal is to be a tourist & visit the attraction a little more north, have valet, & be pampered, a hotel is a better fit.
